He remarked that in his fifty years of public life he has never seen such an outstanding social event. Introducing Karan Marie Simon Karan Marie was born April 7, 1955 at Middlesex General Hospital. The proud parents are Theodore (Ted) and Margaret (Margie) Simon. The father has been to several Verhovay bowling tournaments and is a district delegate from New Brunswick, N. J., Branch 52. Holding the baby is grandfather Adam Simon, Sr,, who has 11 grandchildren, 5 sons and 2 daughters. Senior Simon is the president of Branch 52, has been its officer fon the past 20 years, was a district delegate several times. District Manager Adam Simon, Jr. is an uncle to the child. Karan Marie’s insurance certificate in the Verhovay Fraternal Insurance Association keeps the Simon Family 100% Verhovay members, holding a total of $59,000 in Verhovay certificates. The meeting decided that hereafter it would urge all the members to pay their dues quarterly, every half year oF^y the year, in order to release the branch manager for more time securing new members. This endorsement is beneficial to the members. The members are requested to pay their dues the SECOND Saturday of every month at the Greek Catholic hall. Fraternally, STEPHEN R. SZABÓ President STEPHEN ILLÉS Treasurer-Recorder \ Verhovay Watchtower P By JOSEPH J. HORVATH — Cleveland, Ohio IIIUII ■ ■ ■ ■■ ■ Branch 14 Meeting, — Sunday, May 1, 1955 The meeting was opened by Daniel Kali, vice president. Director Coloman Kolozsvary reported on the merger. Joseph Barry spoke on undeclared dividends and a home for aged Verhovay members was the subject of Frank Pinter’s speech. A benefit card party was held by the Szabolcs Megye Club to aid Nicholas Kadar, a Verhovay member who has been ill for several years. The officers of this club are Joseph Hegedűs, president, Bert Szilagyi, secretary, and Sigismund Kadar, treasurer, who are all members of Verhovay. About 250 people attended the card party. There were plenty of door prizes. Coffee and Hungarian fánk were served. President Hegedűs thanks all’ who helped make the card party a success. Branch 14 is giving about $120 to the expense fund of it,s bowlers. In addition to this, the amount the bowlers realized from their card parties and other activities will make a significant sum. The soccer team of Branch 14 has received $75.00. Judge Louis Petrash gave us a lift in his automobile. I gather from the conversation that followed that the judge might be interested in one of the four new judgeships to be created for the Common Pleas Court in Cuyahoga County, Ohio. Gustave Kaczur, president of St. John’s Greek Catholic Sick Benefit Society, says that Coloman Karnya is a very good manager of St. John’s hall. Andy Bokos is becoming one of Colony’s best bowlers ... Elmer Dorony recently returned home after two years in the Army, has gone back to work. Elmer will bowl next fall if it does not interfere with his studies... Former president of Branch 14 Joseph Hegedűs is introducing 'junior into politics .. . Verhovayan Mayor Anthony Celebrezze of Cleveland has a petition out for his reelection . . . We assume that Councihvoman Mary- K. Sotak of the 29th ward, who is a member of Branch 361, will do the same ... And Judge Joseph Stearns has moved back into the 29th ward . . . Frank J. Pokorny, Sr. is now feeling much better. .. Carl Pertz is making the bowling banquet circuit with his missis .. . Nick Yuhasz, Sr. likes to do his marketing downtown. He was seen “loaded” with vegetables, meats and other groceries on the Buckeye bus . . . The grapevine reports that a romance may be in the making among the high officials of the Hungarian Lutheran Church ... John Beres of Branch 366 has bowled at Verhovay, St. John’s and the Colony Recreation this year . . . Terry Gutka works at the Cleveland Graphite Bronze Company. . . Patty Oravis attended kindergarten this year ... George Kontur would like to bowl at the Verhovay home next season . . . Mrs. Gall, manager of Branch 361, visited Elgin, Illinois in addition to Chicago during the Tournament-Fellowship Days ... The Nick Yuhasz-s, Sr. and Jr., also attended the big Verhovay yearly tourney ... Steve (Susie) Piscalko the other day was seen downtown going to a department store to buy a new grill ... Joseph Simko, Branch 366, sent me a postal card to Columbus, Ohio. He is against H. B. 802, called the Kile Bill, limiting union expenditures for political purposes. A delegation of union officials from the White Motor Company visited Columbus the state capital. While there they looked up yours truly who was glad to see them. DURING THE MONTHS OF JUNE, JULY AND AUGUST, THE SPORTS CLUB WILL MEET THE 3D WEDNESDAY OF EACH MONTH. FOR BRANCH 14 THE 1ST TUESDAY OF JUNE, JULY AND AUGUST WILL BE THE MEETING SCHEDULE. I attended the 45th year anniversary dinner of the Woodmen Circle, Hungarian Grove 77, at St. Stephen’s hall, Sunday, May 22, 1955. About 275 people were there. The food was good and the program was excellent. The hall, however, was pretty hot. This calls to mind that St. Stephen’s ought to make plans to expand as other organizations have done. A new air conditioned hall with ample parking space would pay for itself in a resonable period. Columbus, Ohio I voted for H.B. 29 which is called the Censorship Bill. It i^ good legislation ... will curb undesirable movies. My first bill, H. B. 231) relative to forms for automobile certificates and applications, passed the house. The motor number will be deleted from these forms and the manufacturer serial number will remain. My second bill passed also. I am co-sponsor of this one. It deals with the eligibility of members of a public library retirement system to become members of the public employees retirement system. I voted for H. B. 772 relative to an increase in the contribution of the county for soldiers’ burial. I voted against H. J. R. 31 because of the tie-in of public buildings, etc. with mental health; also because of the interest that would have to be paid on this $150,000,000 bond issue, which would amount to about $97,- 000,000 over twenty years. However, the bill passed. I have voted favorably on all labor legislature and shall continue to do so. But the majority will not let too many get on the floor of the house. I like it here in the legislature and I think another term would do me no harm. So I hope the voters will keep me in mind next May, 1956. Ex Animo, JOSEPH II. HORVATH c.o.
