SO, HURRY, HURRY, HURRY May 18, 1955 Verhovay Journal PAGE 15 Hungarian Department at Elmhurst College Expands The only college department of Hungarian Studies in the United States is located at Chicago’s suburban Elmhurst College. Elmhurst College is a school of liberal arts and sciences. It has an outstanding academic history of nearly eighty-five years. The Hungarian studies department is on the eve of its fifteenth anniversary. Students from many states are enrolled for the courses offered by ■the department. The activities of these collegians and co-eds are varied. Betty Almasy of Hammond, Indiana, sang the leading roll in the Elmhurst College Homecoming Revue. A pre-medical student, William Dawson, of Elmhurst, has been broadcasting a morning musical program over the college radio station. A number of years ago the outstanding captain of the Elmhurst College football team was Andrew Wolf of Kalamazoo, Michigan. As an alumnus of the Hungarian department and of Elmhurst College, today Mr. Wolf is a partner in a wholesale business in California. At the recent board of directors! meeting of the American Studies Foundation which supports the Hungarian department at Elmhurst College, a plan was adopted to build a beautiful national Hungarian museum library on the Elmhurst campus. The museum will house a “Hall of Fame” to honor the hundreds of' great Americans of Hungarian descent, who have contributed much to our life in the world of sciences, engineering, the arts and the humanities. The president of the American. Hungarian Studies Foundation is August J. Molnár, who for nearly three years has successfully headed the Elmhurst Department of Hungarian Studies. He was bom in Cleveland, Ohio. At the recent foundation meeting both the vice presidents were elected: Dr. Joseph Reményi and Dr. Steven Sabo, both of Cleveland: Alexander Ince of New1 York and the former publisher of the Theatre Arts Magazine*; Mme. Anna del Préda of Chicago and director of the American Opera Company. Mrs. Anne Egry of East Chicago, Indiana was chosen to be the secretary of the Foundation. Dr. George Holmes of Wheaton, Illinois is the treasurer. Hungarian culture and some of its treasures. Undergraduate students [studying the Hungarian language at Elmhurst College are preparing for numerous professions.
