S _ ____ __k| The time has finally arrived! After waiting for a whole year, we’re prepared to battle it out in Chicago. Here’s hoping that the weather man will be. good to us and Chicago can get away from being called the' “Windy City.” Toledo will show up ■— not only to defend its “singles” title, which is held by “Rip” Tinta, but to capture a new one! It’s always nice to hear a fellow member going ahead in his chosen field. Last month, I wrote about John Rihacek’s new LIDO LANES. The location of these new alleys will be in the 850 block of South Street, here in Toledo. The alleys will be completely automatic, featuring the new concept in bowling, the hidden ball return. The bowling ball is returned under the floor and comes to rest on a T ball return, which is located a few feet behind the bowler’s approach. This speeds up bowling and does not interfere with the next bowler’s approach. Just behind the bowlers approach will be rows of spectator setees, tables, and chairs, all made of Fibreglass. These lanes will be a very- beautiful sight both for the bowler and the spectator. A cocktail lounge will be one of the attractions for the bowlers. The lounge will feature a very modern grill, the best of food available at all times. Downstairs, the Lido Lanes will have a recreation room which will seat 250 people, with the same service available in the food and refreshment line. Johnny informs me that the room may be used for a meeting place — or for a sobbing room — to shed your tears after a bad night of bowling! Bowling hankies for drying those tears will be furnished free of charge! The building will be air-conditioned. Construction is being - done by Robert Kayser Construction Co. All the bowling equipment will be installed by A.M.F. National Bowling & Billiard Corp., featuring the automatic pin spotters. Should some of you readers be in or near Toledo the last week of August or the 1st week of September, please put this new bowling establishment on your “must see” list. Congratulations Johnny, and lots of luck in your new establishment. It seems to me as though my doubles partner Jula Vargo is on. a hot streak. I hope that it extends right into the last week in May. Lately, the last ball, on which he only got 8 pins, kept him from getting 700 pins, so he had ,to settle for 699. Then, the following night the stubborn 8 pins, followed by the 10-pin tap, held him down to a 684 score.Nice going, Jula! Mr and Mrs. Andrew Feyes are the proud parents of a son who weighed 7 ■ lbs. lloz. His name is Janies Robert. Congratulations to both of you and to the new member of Verhovay. As the Toledo Times Traveling Classic closed for the season, out of the 40 best bowlers in the city, only one carried an average of 200 plus. The honor goes to our Verhovay member — Robert Nickel. I was sorry to hear that our branch president, Julius Feyes, was ill. He had a bad cold and a slight touch of pneumonia. While I wás in Purdue last week I won a bet, so will the gentleman, that/ owes me a small sum please pay before we meet in Chicago? This gentleman accompanied me to Purdue, or rather, I should say, I accompanied him to Purdue. What’s happening in New York? ? ? Must we be “sit-me-downs” again, at the forthcoming bowling tournament ? Until I see all of you personally in Chicago, I put away this typewriter for another month. Let’s all have a good time, and please, be careful when you drive — drive safely. AIR FORCE Airman 3d Class Edward Guyer, :age 22, joined the Air Force in November, 1954.
