BRANCH 15 — CHICAGO, ILL. By: Ernest C. Taylor, District Mgr. SENTINEL I look out the window as I am It just so happens this is being written before the April dance and will be published after the event, so naturally I have nő news on that affair yet — do hope you all went. I thought that, since there isn’t much new, I’d finally get around to lanswermg some of my “fan mail,” this being as good a time as any. Yes, we did find Trigger the hamster -— poor thing he had fallen into a sack full of jars I had been saving for “Nagymama,” and perished. He has not been replaced, altho we've had strong hints thrown our way for a dog- or parakeet or even a chinchilla, but we’re not heed ing any of the suggestions. Even the fish finally gave up, no doubt because I forgot about them for a couple of days after I had set the' tank on the boiler. Some of you asked what the after effects were after the furnace explosion. All the scars healed beautifully and the only thing that remains is a ridge on each nail, which refuses to retain a coat of nail polish! Other than that the hand iS‘ fine. • I’m sorry to say that it doesn’t) look as if I’m going to be able to make the Chicago Tournament! I surely thought we’d be able to make it, but even the best laid plans of mice and men, etc. —! unless there is a last minute change. And, believe me, I hope to take Toledo up on it’s challenge —still don’t believe they can dance even if they have proven they can bowl. I was looking forward to meeting (those of you I hadn’t met in New York, to renew acquaintance made; at the last tourney. Perhaps I’ll be a litowaway. I see that Detroit s Jolán Lucas has a universal problem on her hands. It’s one illness I think every branch suffers from — Lack of IN VERESTED MEMBERS! Take our own branch, for instance. Our branch officers are all young, and those that may not be in years certainly are in spirit. We all wo’k hard to get the YOUNG FOLKS to our meetings, and we could have a lot more fun — but WHERE DOES EVERY BODY GO ON THE FIRST FRIDAY OF EVERY MONTH? I myself have had to »hire a baby watcher many times, so I could attend the meeting's when Ernie coukin't stay with them, but surely »ve can’t always use children as excuses. If it’s the children that keep you home, say so and perhaps we can arrange to keep them busy while you’re at the meeting, as we do at P. T. A. I for one will follow with great interest the outcome of Jolan’s plea to bring back the good old Verhovay meetings soon. MORE POWER AND LUCK to you, Jolán. If you can start the ball rolling, we can kind of fall in with you! To those who work so long on creating plans fur events and other programs, the poor attendance at meetings planned in the direction of young folks is quite disheartening'. On June 19, we shall be holding our annual picnic at the Magyar Park. This affair shall be held in honor of Director Aloysius C. Falus«}', whom you all know well. Do plan to be with us. At that time no doubt the bowling team should have much to tell us about the tournament. It's always nice to get together with the gang. Semsey’s orchestra will play. Come early and plan to stay late. I wish also to remind you that sometime in June, no doubt our regular meeting, shall be the time »vhen the election of delegates to the Convention in September shall be held. It is YOUR AND YOUR bounden duty to attend this vital election to cast your vote for the person you want to have represent you. This is a very important year lor Verhovay. The need for proper representation is essential! Come to vote the people in who have been working for YOU and VERHOV\\ right along, not some harum-scarum who comes to meetings once a year and then thinks he should be eligible to such an important position. Give the GUY or GAL who works for you ALL THE TIME the privilege of representing you in Pittsburgh. Show your good faith in these workers by casting your vote at the June meeting. It’s a »vonderful way of being thankful for grand service. Our bowling team played with the Catholic War Vets again a couple of weeks ago, and this time the Vets went home victorious. We understand a certain president, whose initials are A. A., rolled a great big 99. ‘Tis been told if Mr. Ibos doesn’t show up at bowling he shall be in second place. Chuck Fabian is in third now — offered to replace someone, but these guys are stubborn! Leo John arrived at the Joe Kongo’s on March 5th. Mother Lee and baby are doing well. Joey, I didn’t get a seegar! Diana Kathleen made a February 22 debut at the G. Boszilkov’s — No seegars here either! Congratulations to all the new maters and paters. Our Bobby was six April 4th. Nancy Boszilkov is an April ce'.ebrater too. Margaret Ibos is on our birthday list for April 13th, and for the month of May we have Chickie Fabian who will be six on May 9, Gayle Gruben (hijah, honey) on the 10th, and Alan Ancsanyi who will be 12 on the 12th. Trustee Ernest Feher will, also celebrate a birthday in May, and yours truly and Ernie will celebrate 13 years of wedded bliss on the 17th. The Boszilkov’s have an anniversary in May also, as do my sister and brother-in-law, the Nicholson’s. So-o-o, happy birthday, anniversary, etc. to all! Fraternally yours, MARGIE NEMETH 199-13 26th Avenue Bavside 58, New York Bayside 4-4399---------•-«§ § &>---------You never know how absurd the other fellow’s opinion is until you hear yourself quoting it. * >(. * The world’s most needed improvement is a better living human being. * ¥ * A man may be perfectly happy dictating to his secretary provided he isn’t married to her. writing this article, and, boy oh boy, what a beautiful day in Chicago. Yup. I have spring fever bad. I can already see the quiet of some lake in Minnesota with the fish just waiting for me to put my line into the water. What a dream. What’s better than REALLY fresh fish? Congratulations to the South Bend bowlers who actually can say as the old Romans: I came, I saw, I conquered. In other words, they swept up clean and we do not even have a good alibi. The only consolation that we have out of this return match is that our boys took into camp the vaunted team of Charles Hetzel of the west side. This was a side match in conjunction with the match game with South Bend. I report that the Louis Fodors received a card from Marge Long in Coolidge, Arizona, while the Fodors were in Phoenix. You people should have gotten together since these •towns are only 40 miles apart. Marge, jn case you read this article, Lou says that he would like to meet you at our dance on May 7th at the Lions Building, so come in from Great Lakes and enjoy yourself for one evening. Anton Lachman, our good friend and bowler, was in town a| couple of weeks ago. I understand 'that he was checking on his ‘millions” tucked away in several banks in Chicago. How is Florida Tony? Marge Kunstadt broke a couple of her ribs last month. She has since gone back to work and shows no ill effects. Mrs. Charles (Mary) Stuparits was in and out of St. Elizabeth’s hospital since I wrote the last article. Don’t scare us, Mary. Eleanor Wissman, the daughter of Rudo'ph Loos of Melrose Park, Illinois, was blessed with a daughter in the month of January; also the former Barbara Kovach, ,now Mrs. Murphy, in Phoenix, Arizona, I hear is expecting. Mrs. George Gray, thei well known Matt Balog, was blessed with an 8 lb. daughter whom they have named Mary Ellen. What prosperous people live here in Chicago. Ernest Juhasz has bought a new home out west of me, in fact 8800 west, and Alex Nagy is soon going to move into his new home which he purchased in River Grove. Boys, you missed a good bet here. I found out that Helen Horvath got) her self a man, leaving the ranks of the bachelorets to take over the duties of a wife. The only vacationer that we have on the list now is our jeweler friend, Stephen Spieler, who is down in Haiti. Steve, is that card with the mammy smoking her pipe, the best you can do? I thought that you could do better than that! I am happy to report that Chicago will enter 18 teams in to our National Tournament to be held in Chicago. Come ye all! Let us make this the biggest and best turnout yet. AH branches and friends please take note: The three branches of the Chicago area are going to have an album to commemorate this year’s tournament; elsewhere you will find an article covering this. All those »vanting to help to make this album a huge success, please send in your ads or any ads that you can get for this album. The prices on this are as follows: Whole page, $30.00: half page $15.00, quarter page, $7.50; eighth page, $5.00; and any one who wants a straight line ad, $1.00. Before I forget, you good Verhovay members in Chicago, the dates to remember are May 7th and the last Sunday in June. MARK THEM ON YOUR CALENDER. Also, do not lorget that we have a membership drive on, and since this year Chicago äs the guest city, let’s get all the members possible! Your assistance will be very much appreciated by your branch manager . Well I think I’ll say farewell for the
