I wish to thank all of you for the many beautiful holiday greeting' cards which you sent me. Believe me, it was a pleasure to open all those beautiful cards. Thanks again. The December meeting' of Branch 27 was one of the most successful in getting the “ball rolling” for future work. Our new president of Branch 27 is Mr. Julius Feyes of 1801 Pilgrim Road, Toledo; John Mokri was reelected treasurer, John Simon recording secretary, and Andrew Rasi vice president. Bill Curry, our sharp left-handed bowler, was élected chairman of the entertainment committee. Joseph Zabrosky was added to the entertainment committee to assist Bill for the fine work that he has shown in the past. Our youthful president, as all you should know, was one-half of the brother team that won the doubles championship the year it honored our city of Toledo — May, 195-‘J. Julius comes from a strong Verhovay family. We are confident that he will keep the true Verhovay spirit in his heart. Congratulations, Julius, and may you have a good year as our leader at Branch 27. We welcome Bill Curry into an important position, also Mrs. Bill Curry. “Dee,” as she is known to Ko,- frionda, has just joined our association. We know that Bill’s work will be completely different from ours. For one thing, he’ll do most of it left-handed on the bowling lanes. After the meeting adjourned, a social was held and, with the able assistance of the ladies, it turned out to be a rounding success. The Toledo Times Traveling Classic closed its first half of the bowling season last Thursday at Playdiurn. Lanes, operated by the three Zam Brothers and Lou Drotos. The strong Etchen-Lutz team captured first place honors with the aid of our singles champ, Rip Tinta, and Verhovay member Al Feudi. The standing's in the classic were so close that only two games separated the third place team from last in this eight team league. “Jack’s- Men’s Shop,” for, whom yours truly bowls, with Dick Sendi and Jula Varge, ended in the fourth position. At this writing, one of our best scores shot was a total of 3102 pins, at the Sport Center Classic. The totals: Andy Zigr.ay led the team with 680; Steve Ivancso, G07; Steve Sosko, G14; Dick Sendi, 611; and Jula Vargo, 500. Boys, we could use tiffs score at the Congress Alleys in Chicago this coming May! John Mokri, our treasurer, shot a 589 last week — came very close to his first 600 — but that, good old last frame jinx, the reliable split, came in and spoiled things for John. My brother Johnny needed the six pin for his 600, but he .thought that it meant a thousand bucks, so naturally, he blew it, ending' with a 596. Better luck next time, brother, and don’t let the pressure bother you. Some of the comment heard fro'.n the bowlers about Chicago sounds very interesting; “I know where one can get charcoal broiled steaks in Chicago.” Still another said, “Boy, they never close the. night clubs.” From these two comments thing's look pretty bright for Chicago and Toledo in the forthcoming bowling tournament. Mr. Taylor and Mr. Kajdi, fellow district managers District Managers in Chicago, please take note — and roll out that magic red carpet. We were very sorry to hear that Dennis Mokri, son of our treasurer, fell down the stairs during the holiday season. It required 12 stitchesi to close the cuts on his lips and tongue. I wish him the speediest recover;, and no more of this during 1955. I Saw Mr. and Mrs. Louis Cherko at Playdium Lanes. Louis is one of our newest members, is really eager for the trip to Chicago. He is one hard and true fraternal worker, and we are glad to welcome him to our branch. Out-of-town visitors during Christmas were Mr. and Mrs. John G. Kocsis of Akron, Ohio. John and Hattie say that if they don’t cash in on bowling in Chicago, they’ll do it playing- pinochle. Both of them are crack pinochle players. I know it! There are still a large number of people that do not know when and where the meetings are held. Here is all the information: The meetings are held on every Joumal _________________________________ The election of officers for 3955 of Branch 226 marked the beginning of the new era visualized for this group when the merger with Branch 395 was consummated. At this meeting also, Mr. Fred Stipkovits, the new District Manager, was introduced to the unprecedentedly large group by Mr. Elmer Charles and Mr. Gus Nagy of -the home office. John Sabo, National Auditor, was present to extend his felicitations to the new appointee as well as the new officers elected: President Julius J. Lenart, Vice President Andrew l ukacs, Secretary George Visokay, Auditing Committee: Helen Coydan, Ethel Halas, John Benedek. The election of a delegate to the convention was not held at this time as Branch 226 is a district itself, and the delegate and his alternate can be elected later. However, the membership is asked to consider the choice of a suitable and qualified person for this office carefully, and be prepared to present such names at the forthcoming election of those who would most ably serve the best interest of the organization. After the oath of office was administered to the newly elected officers, an expression of thanks was extended to the retiring- officers who January 19, 1955. second Sunday of the month in the church basement, St. Michael’s Greek Catholic Church, corner of Bogár and Valentine Sts. WELCOME ALL. pledged their continued cooperation and support. The meeting ended on a friendly note as light refreshments were served among a warmly congratulatory gathering. The January meeting opened with plans for the coming year, among which is the proposed reorganization of the Grand Committee of Hungarian Churches, Lodges, and Social Cluh, with which group Branch 226 plans to reactivate the commemoration of the March 15 Hungarian Independence Day in McKeesport. In recent years this event, has berm dropped. It was deemed desirable to revive this custom. A committee was named to initiate action in this matter including, besides the executive officers, Miss Helen Stipkovits and Mr. Beniamin Hadar. V Plans are also being formulated for a tea and fellowship evening and a spring dance, and the committees will be named at the next meeting. As Branch 226 is a participant of the United Magyar Civic Association, Mr. Alex Meszar was appointed as a new representative, in addition to Mr. George Visokay who has beeti serving in that capacity. The members of Branch 226 wish to make a matter of record their appreciation of the fine, unselfish work and aims of the retiring officers in the past, and look with anticipation to the fulfillment of the future plans of their new officers. Ours is a common goal, and keeping- that thought foremost, in addition to our individual cooperative efforts, we can not, do otherwise but succeed.
