Well, here is the Nemeth formula for practically blowing up — a boiler! I would suggest you pick a week end when everything else has gone wrong, for instance, one of the children gets sick, the car breaks down, the television goes on the blink, and, of course, you find you have no hot water to do the dishes. (The above all helps but is not essential.) Well sir, you take one peeved housewife stomping down to the basement; fool around with the manual which sort of starts the gas flowing; click the thermostat a few times, which helps to set off an electrical charge; mix in a few fancy words; take a match, lit of course; apply to boiler, and BOOM — we’ll guarantee you one heck of a bang And for your information, I’m now typing with my left hand! Needless to say, I didn’t show up at (the PTA meeting the next day, where I was supposed to be introduced as this year’s lecturer on Safety First and First Aid! All we can say is that it could have been so much worse. We’re all thankful nothing more serious happened, although five burnt fingers are no laughing matter. My kind neighbors came to my rescue and now are just patiently waiting for what I’ll dream up next. Right now they are seriously thinking of changing my name to Jane, Calamity that is! I can almost hear the onen saying, isn’t that just like a woman. For THEIR information I want them to know it happened to three other men on the block, and, even tho I did get burned, THEY had to get $300 worth of new boilers! Funny part of it all is our darn thing has been working like a, charm ever since. BOILER SERVICE, ANYONE? WANTED: A group of fun loving members, from the age of 3 to 12, to attend a Thankgiving party to be held on NOV. 21, 1954 at the Reformed Church, 344 E. 69 St., New York. 3 to 6 P. M. Come in costume if possible. No adult will ,be admitted unless accompanied by a child. We shall be awaiting you there! This is the first time in about twenty years that our branch has attempted an affair such as this. The response so far has been overwhelming and a big turnout is expected. Everything is on the house of course, and, as this is written, the butterflies are already beginning to flutter in my tummy at the prospect of keeping 60 children and ftheir parents happy. Everyone will have loads of fun for we have a fine jprogram planned and just hope for nice weather. I will tell you all labout it next month. Joe (on the ball) Toma, Branch 48’s- Field Supervisor l’ecently had the happy privilege of signing up Mr. Louis Varga of the Rákóczi (Vice President in fact). Welcome 'to Verhovay, Mr. Varga, and delighted to have you with us! It doesn’t seem possible that! Thankgiving is so close to us, with Christmas hard at its heel. It seems to me we just got thru taking down last year’s tree! Before we iknow it, another tournament will be on and, wherever it’s going to be held, we surely hope to go. Ah least two teams are planning on going from New York. Pm trying my best to induce them to take me along as mascot! I must get there; to see if Toledo lives up to its word! Their bowling scores last month were quite impressive. New York this year is quite terrific, or so they tell me. Joe Rongo’s bowling has been on the spectacular Side, A1 Anscanyi rolled 591 a couple of days ago, and Johnny Partmann is also in good form. Keep up the good work, boys, and the best of strikes and spares to you lall! Ernie feels bad about not being able to bowl this season because of his back, but luckily he was able to be replaced by Frank Rico. Welcome back to the fold, Frank! All in all, tho, it’s a hot team this year! Other towns, please take notice! Adam Simon Jr. evidently does not reeeeive the Journal, or if he does, doesn’t read it, and, for that matter, I guess no one in New Jersey does, as this is the third time I’ve asked to see the many shots Adam has taken of the group and no one has ever seen. Won’t some kind soul in New Brunswick call this to Adam’s attention! I loved those two Chinese proverbs J. J. Horvath used in his latest column—hope all of Cleveland got out and voted him into office. It was good to note that we also had a new contributor, Mr. Horvath of Dearborn, Michigan. It seems to us our Journal has come a long way, each issue more interesting. (Cut it out, N. Y. — someone’s always teasing me about the “shortness” of my articles. New York extends best wishes to Branch 26, Sharon, Pennsylvania, which recently celebrated its fiftieth (anniversary. I wonder how many of us will be around to see 48’s silver Jubilee? I read every word of the Minutes of the Board of Directors Meeting (and saw the next convention is to be held in July. It must be quite fascinating to be present at such an important delegation and be a part of such a democratic meeting. To be able to render any services along this line is indeed a high honor )and privilege. It will be quite interesting- to follow branch elections to see who shall be representing us. We think more women should go as representatives, as we all know there’s many a woman workinghard and long for club activities, and their know-how is equally important in national as well as local affairs. I saw the Tatars the other evening and their concert recital. I can’t remember when an evening program such as this had such an enthralled audience. If I used every adjective I know, perhaps then I could tell you just how magnificent these two artists are! Whatever you do, don’t miss them when they come to your city, and if you have already seen them, go see them again, We for one couldn’t get enough of them. The program was excellent and our very own Director A1 Falussy was master of ceremonies. A wonderful job he did. He kept his audience delighted, and, although the audience would have preferred to have him make all his introductions -hi Hungarian, this gal was happy he stuck to English.' When they start off with Hungarian words a mile long, brother, they lose me somewhere along the line, and personally I think it’s time some of the elders got used to using and hearing English spoken at these affairs. They forget that more and more' non-speaking Hungarians are joining our organization, and nothing is more boring than not to know what is being said. So Al, congratulations, on a job well done! In the audience we noted many Verhovay members we had not seen in years. Director Albert Ibos and his sister Margaret were present as well as Mr. Julius Vallay and his son, and we gathered together during intermission to exclaim over the program. November is a busy month for1 our branch, Joe Toma’s dinner on ‘the 13th, the children’s party on the 21st, and in between we have a few birthdays. Al Ibos on the 10th: Happy Birthday, Mr. President!; AI Ancsanyi, our V. P., celebrates an anniversary as well as a birthday: Congratulations to you both, Terry and Al. Jos. Nemeth, my dad-in-law, is also a November celebrater. Best wishes to you all! And of course Thanksgiving — we xdo all have so much to be thankful for, and those of us who have our health realize how very wealthy we are, I fervently hope and pfay YOU ALL have a WONDERFUL feast day {amongst family and friends, and hope you count me in amongst your friends. Fraternally yours, Mrs. MARGIE NEMETH, 199-13 26th Avenue, Bayside 58, N. Y. Bayside 4-4399. P. S. Libby Toma has been on our sick list for the past few weeks. I do hope that toe gets better, Libby must have you at the dinner!
