1954 / Verhovay Journal
FAGE 8 Verhovay Journal November 17, 1954. Proudly Displaying Their Testimonials ‘ For long Verhovay service well done” aptly gives the reason why these four veteran branch officers, who were honored at a banquet-testimonial held for them by Branch 50, Chicago, Illinois, on October 10, 1954, hold the framed Illustrious Citations presented to them on that occasion. They are, left to right, Joseph Rohaly, John Matanyi, Frank Tinich and Alexander Korodi. BRANCH 15 — CHICAGO, ILL. — SENTINEL By: Andrew Janovics, Vice-President Christmas seems so far away but it is really close. Do you realize you may not receive the next issue of our Journal before our Christmas' party ? Therefore, be it known here and now that the Branch 15 Christmas Party for the children will be held the THIRD SUNDAY of December, that is, December 19, directly after our December election meeting. Santa Claus, with his hearty ‘‘HO, HO” and a small gift, will be there to speak to the children. Do he sure to bring your children to this party not only for their pleasure but to give you a chance to relax and enjoy yourself. Our Masquerade Dance is now a thing of the past, but I do wish to thank all of our guests for coming and also, ALL the fine workers who cooperated so nicely to make things flow smoothly. Among our guests were Mr. John Sabo, National Auditor, and Dr. Andrew Kovács, Vice President from our Home Office in Pittsburgh; Mr. Frank Wukovits, Field Supervisor from South Bend, Indiana, and his lovely wife, Mrs. Wukovits; District Manager and Mrs. Frank Kajdi, of Branch 50, Chicago, who not only honored us with their presence but, praise be, donned costumes. Mrs. Kajdi made a lovely “Little Red Riding Hood,” complete with her basket of goodies. I regret not being able to spend some time! with all of them, but duty called. However, we were very glad to see the large number at the dance. I regret also that I was unable to obtain the names of the winners of the prizes for the best and funniest costumes, seven prizes in all, but we thank all of those who did dress up, even though many preferred to come without costumes. Again, special thanks to the Committee for its hard work which it so capably accomplishx ed. I don’t know whether times have changed or what, but it seems to me that parents were once the only ones who proudly displayed walletsized photos of their offspring, with proud boasts of their accomplishments. However, now it seems it’s the grandparents who proudly display photos of their grandchildren. Among those who fall in this category are Frank Földi, who proudly (shows off pictures of his grandaughter in her “hula hula” skirt — mighty pretty! Then, Ann Barango, with little Debbie’s picture and heh beasts of what the little one can do — and not only boasts — but demonstrations with which at outdance she proved her boasts. Then, Margie Kunstadt, with a lovely picture taken of the Marvin Kunstadts’ little one when just a day old. That, too, is something new. Before, you would never think df taking a picture af a day old infant. And now-, I suppose, it won’t be long before Louis and Marge Fodor come around with a photo of their granddaughter. Yes, their daughter, Margaret Louise, is now the proud mother of á darling girl who was born in the Columbus Hospital, October 16 at a healthy 7 lbs. 14 oz. The little girl will be named Georgetta Margaret Torrez. Congratulations to the happy parents, Margaret and Ernest Torrez, Jr. (better known as “Snooky” and “Sonny” Torez). Also congratulations to the grandparents Louis and Marge Fodor and Mr. and Mrs. E. Torrez, Sr. Marion Laping will march down 'the aisle in November. I regret not having more information about this but was unable to contact her. I wish her much happiness and the best of luck. Best of luck to Elsie and Andrew Risko who have just moved into their own home right next door to the Ernie Taylor’s. I understand Tony Kovács is on the other side of the Taylor’s. If this keeps up, soon the whole block will be Branch 15 members. If block after block would follow, just think, a Branch 15 community — some goal! Ollie Kunstadt was a patient in the hospital. We hope to see her back bowling soon. We regret losing Irma Bachi from our bowling league; she had to quit as she is about to undergo an operation. Quick recovery, Irma. Most of our boviing teams already have their shirts. It looks nice to see them uniformly attired. I will try to have a list of the sponsors in a future issue; also names of the top teams, even though it’s still early in the season. We are pleased that some of our members take an interest in our bowling league and stop in now and then as spectators to watch the bowlers’ progress. We are sorry that we did not have enough room for all those who wished to bowl. We are bowling with 16 teams, 12 men’s team and 4 women’s team, every Friday night, starting about 9:15 P.M., at the Belbowl Recreation, Belmont and Sawyer Avenues. If any of you wish to stop in to watch, we will be very glad to see you. I wish I could write more but it seems I am out of news. Why not call me from time to time with any interesting items you may have? — Won’t you? Good-by until next month.
