Ivancso « issHHSiiaaiaisiaiiiKiiaigiia^MiaiaiiiisiiBiHHiiHiiaiaiiisisBiaMiai The World Series is history, and a lot of Cleveland “Indian” fans are Scalping with, “Wait until next 'year.” It surely was disappointing from the Indian’s side, even more eo since Bob Feller, one of their greatest pitchers, didn’t even get to pitch in the series. Could he have done better than his fellow “Chiefs”? Autumn is here with her beauty, football with its upsets, and — yes — bowling, with its splits. Driving cut to Swanton, Ohio last week, it surely was a beautiful sight to see all of the different colored leaves on the trees. There we were the guests of the Julius Gombash family. Mr. Gombash is one of the oldest members of Branch 27, Toledo. The family is 100% Verhovay —- their newest addition is a little girl, and she, too, wras added to the Verhovay roster. We all know that working conditions around the country have been on the downgrade, especially in the coal fields and at the automotive industry. Some people say that this is seasonal. We hope so! Last week in the Toledo area this seasonal islump was coming to a reality. We could go doym the street and hear that good old refrain, “Just called back”, or “I’m starting Monday morning”. Well, we hope for the best, as the Holiday Season surely catches up with us in a hurry. ■Tula Vargo, our fisherman, is down New Orleans way — fishing. Sometimes I wonder what comes first with Jula — fishing, bowling, or could it be baby sitting? Bill Smith, our fellow member and president of the Toledo Times Traveling Classis, is laid up with abad right wrist, can’t bowl for at least two weeks. A speedy recovery, Bill, and get back into the groove! At this writing, The Toledo Times Traveling Classis is in its 5th bowling week. Competition is tough and conditions sometimes rugged. I’m happy to report that the Verhovay boys, bowling under “Jack’s Men’s Shop”, are tied for 1st place with a 9 won-6 lost record. This lost and won record shows that no one team is superior to the other. Some splendid scores have been shot. John Monoky has the high three game total — 783 — with 290 for high single game. “George’s Music” bested 3200. “Jack’s Men’s Shop” has a total of 3100, with yours truly bowling a 3-game total of 726 with a 256 high. Steve Sosko’s 666 helped us for a 3-game win. Andy Zigray, our anchorman, is averaging 200. We welcome another All — Star Bowler to our ranks — Al Feudi! AI is bowling this year under the “Etchen-Lutz Realty” banner. A few years back, Al, Rip Tinta, our singles champion, Dick Sendi, Julai Vargo and yours truly, made one of Toledo’s strongest young combines. Bowling under the sponsorship of “Opre’s Garage” this team captured the Sport Center Major Championship on their last night of bowling. Bowling the second place team with a two game lead, one win was a must. The second place team, stocked with old timers who had more bowling experience, said that the pressure would make the youngsters fold. Well, we didn’t fold! After a few' wagers to back us up, here’re the scores that we bowled: In the first game Jula Vargo missed the ten pin in the first frame, then struck out for 279; Dick Sendi had 229; Rip Tinta 226; AI Feudi 227; and yours truly 231; for a total of 1192. At one time we had 19 consecutive strikes. This broke the second placer’s back, and with all the beer frames that night, we closed the championship season with a bang! Mr. and Mrs. Emery Szollosi, with their three children, have joined Verhovay. Emery is the caretaker of the greens at Collins Park way. If any of you want to know a thing or two about the shrubbery business, don’t hesitate to contact Emery at CollinS) Park. Another new Verhovay member is Dr. Alex Farkas. His office is located at 325 Whittmore Street, Toledo, Ohio. As we write these lines, the Board of Directors is considering our next National Bowling Tournament site. We do hope that it will be a satisfactory site so that Toledo may show its championship form as it did in the past. We extend our sympathy to the family of Mr. Joseph Poes in the passing of his dear wife. Mr. Poes is one of Branch 27’s hardest workers, a true Verhovey backer. Latest visitor to Toledo was Mr. Julius L. Vallay and his son. Mr. Vallay, our former district manager, is now residing in New York City. After spending a few days among friends in Toledo, he headed back to the big city ana to his job as District Manager in New York. Until next month bye-bye for now, and to all of you bowlers: May I wish you the best of luck — and good bowling!
