J., has assumed the branch managerial position. BRANCH 429 Dearborn, Michigan Since June, when Branch 429 was granted independent existence, we have progressed very satisfactorily. The August meeting was held at Pali bácsi-’s farm in Carleton. It was a family picnic style affair — you know, bring your own hot dogs and “szalonna” and refeshments. Aaah, refreshments! Everyone was well “refreshed”. All summer we needed and prayed for rain. Week after week there was no water from the sky. Then for our picnic it “raint”. We couldn’t believe it, in fact we kept disbelieving it until the H2 O began dripping out of our shoes. Nevertheless we had a grand get-together with such old timers as proxy John Fisher en famile, Mr. Evnd Mrs. Samuel Toth and brotherin-law, Mr. and Mrs.. Dan Rob, Bill Horvath (our most eligible bachelor), Mrs. Anna Horvath (our Náni néni), the life of any party young or old, Casimer Bores and his wife (who have grown a crop of muscular sons since we last saw them), Mrs. Jack Bores (Mr. Bores, always good company, was unable to make it), Steve and Mary Horvath and family (perennials). Well, after we were fairly convinced that it really was raining, we transferred thb meeting to the home of yours truly. Before • leaving the farm, we were joined by Pali bácsi himself. It was good to see the old soldier joining in the fun. He still carries himself as a hussar, which he was in the days of yore. We all thank him for his hospitality. At the house we were joined by 'the not-so-brave (weather-wise) souls and those who had to work till later in the day, Cliff Parson’s family, Julius Szalai and family, and, last but not least, the faithful McLeod family. As a result of this meeting we decided on a rain check meeting foh September, the place to be decided by Mary Horvath and Mai McLeod. Also, as a starter for a social program, it was decided to hold, sometime in the near future, a Millionaire’s Party, which promises to be much fun, especially since we plan !io dress the part — silk toppers and (swallow-tailed coats for the men and minks (skunk or polecat) and evening gowns for the women. The meeting disbanded with great enthusiasm. Interim Well, we had the September meeting — turnout somewhat disappointing but enthusiasm still warm. What do you want? More publicity? Okay. A meeting of the entertainment committee for the Millionaire’s Party is pending. The event may be sometime near Halloween. When else can you get away with masquerading as ia daffy millionaire unless you are a government employee in Washington, where a millionaire is just a poor1 relative ? Oh yes, two new members are Sylvia Horvath and Daniel Rob. We have some “hot” prospects in mind. Give me time. I’m new at) this “game.” So far it has been a pleasure going out to meet the membership personally, such nice people as Mrs. Boonie, a little old lady who is motherhood personified, with her little garden and sons all growing (to her satisfaction; Mr. and Mrs. Erdeyi, a fine couple with the In the story of the Verhovay Fraternal Insurance Association June 10, 1904 is another significant date in the many chapters relating to the steady growth of our society. The particular date above gave birth to Branch 26, Sharon, Pennsylvania, which segment of our Association celebrated its fiftieth anniversary on Sunday, September 26, 1954, appropriately commemorating the event in the Sharon Hungarian Home. Alexander Perhacs, president of Branch 26, opened the festivity by warmly greeting the large assemblage of members and g’uests, to be followed by Janet Repasky who sang the’ National Anthem. Father Denis Szocs, Catholic Pastor, read the invocation. The women of the branch prepared and served the delicious banquet. The honor of introducing the charter members of Branch 26 fell to the toastmaster, Joseph Nemes, who called upon Stephen Kuti, Mrs. Gabriel Mészáros, Mrs. Stephen Mészáros, Andrew Lonyay and John Kimpan to rise for the well-deserved applause. Paul Hansley, recording secretary of Branch 26, next narrated the fifty years existence of the branch, an account quite interesting. Feature speaker was National President John Bencze who spoke so well he received the ovation of his listeners. Others who spoke were the Rev. Bela Furjesz, Reformed pastor, Father Denis Szocs, Field Assistant to the National President Elmer Charles, and John Bumbuluc and Thomas Kuti, Branch 26 holders of the ILLUSTRIOUS CITATION and GOLD MEDAL. In the entertainment Margaret Bársony of Ellwood City, well-known Hungarian singer and recording artist, thrilled the audience with her fine voice and vivacity. Other enthusiasm of youngsters; the Taffanharts, pleasant people whom we’d like to see oftener; Mrs. Peter Soos and her vivacious daughter Betty; Mr. and Mrs. Gogoiak, and daughter* and son-in-law the Eppleys. As time goes on I will write more about this fine group of ours. Since it took three months to muster up enough ambition to write this, I feel that already I am overworked. It is now up to the membership to give me the material and to make the next article an easy one, and that can be done by A-C-T-I-O-N. Let’s work together to make 429 the branch that people want to belong to. Fraternally, Nicholas Horvath Manager vocals added to the program were done well by Yolanda Perhacs and Janet Repasky. Barbara Kovács and Joseph Rendes’ lively dances merited the audible appreciation of the celebrants. Mrs. Bela Furjesz, wife of the minister, accompanied on piano the vocalists. At this point toastmaster Nemes made the following introductions: the officers of Branch 26: Alexander! Perhacs, Joseph Tisza, Paul Hansleyj Gabriel Feher, John Bumbuluc ancí Charles Pacsi; the officers of the* Hungarian Home: Valentine Szucsj Charles Hideg, George Szakacs, Jr.] Frank Irimias and Alexander Yagerjj Verhovay officers, field and branchi representatives and guests:: National* Auditor John Sabo and Mrs. Sabo] Director Joseph Turner and Mrs. Turner, Director Mike Korosy, Field Supervisor Gabriel Nameth, Stephen Imre, Jr., Andrew Griz, John Toth, Joseph Aszalós, Andrew J. , Miller, John Bokor, John Balia, Michael Simo and Mrs. Simo, John Kosztvo and Mrs. Kosztyo, Dr. John Majoros,.
