GOLF TOURNAMENT Attention is directed to Chicago area golfers to join Branch 15’s golf tournament which will be held Sunday, August 22, 1954, beginning at ,10:00 A. M., at the Sporty Villa Olivia Golf & Country Club 25 miles west of Chicago on Route 20. Prizes will be issued on low gross and the Peoria Handicap System will be used, giving all the golfers an equal opportunity at all other prizes. Total entry fee is $4.25. OBITUARY — NEW BRANCH MANAGER — Henrich Cerny, manager of Branch 262, died suddenly May 26, 1954. Funeral services were held from the Emanuel Lutheran Church and burial took place in Uniondale Cemetery. Mr. Cerny came to Verhovay with the merger of the Workingmen’s Sick Benefit Federation. ANNIVERSARY and CITATION The Board of Directors, at its last regular session, authorized the issuance of the Verhovay Citation and the Gold Medal to Andrew Vajda, manager of Branch 415, for his many years of service to the Verhovay Fraternal Insurance Association. The presentation will be made at the home of the branch manager by Director Louis Vizi Sunday, July 25, 1954, beginning at 2:00 P.M. This affair will celebrate also the 21st anniversary of the founding of Branch 415 and the 40th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Vajda. Detroit and Area Branches 36, 443, 500, 511 and Flint Branch 214 MICHIGAN VERHOVAY DAY The Michigan Verhovay Day Picnic originally scheduled for Sunday, June 20, 1954 was called off because of RAIN! However, the plans will remain the same but the date will be changed to SUNDAY, AUGUST 15, 1954 at Handler’s Park, Trenton, Michigan. Besides the above mentioned branches which are active participants, the following Michigan branches will also be represented: Branches 123 Kalamazoo; 136, Grand Rapids; 215 Muskegon Heights; 403, Port Huron; and 429, Dearborn. Guests who are invited for the June 20th affair will again be invited and will be present: Michigan’s Governor G. Mennen Williams; Judge Stephen Roth from Flint; Congressman John Lesinski; Gerald K. O’Brien, Wayne County Prosecutor; and other city officials. Also the National Officers and members of the Board of Directors will attend this mid-summer festival. Field Supervisor Gabriel Nameth did the honors of writing up the lovely infants, born May 14. 1954. A double event of this nature in the Vargo household merits not only double congratulations, from Verhovay Youngstown but also special commendation goes to Mr. Vargo for making his family 100% Verhovay — a striking example of true fraternalism. Mass, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Mass of Spi'ingfield, Nebraska, Saturday, June 26, 1954 at St. Mary’s Church, Omaha. The Rev. Francis E. Kubart read the rites at 8:00 A.M. Miss Bernadette was maid of honor for her sister. The Misses Therese Kislcki, Frances Leas, Jo Ann Nicklonis and Theresa Kilton, sister of the bride, were bridesmaids. Best man was Michael V. Kilton, the brides’s brother, of San Francisco, California. Ushers were Donald Mass, Francis Kilton, Niles Nikkleson, Ronald Armbust and John Kilton. Br. 278 Branch 45-ers Hold Picnic A May outing on Memorial Day by the members of Branch 45, Cleveland, Ohio, turned out to be one of the most joyful spring affair ever undertaken by this Cleveland branch. The gay event was held on the grounds of the Nelson home, whose owner, Mrs. Nelson, has for years graciously and without fee made available her spacious property for the socials of Branch 45. Refreshments and drinks, games, dancing, "the moving pictures of BRANCH 545 Conway, Pa. NEW BRANCH MANAGER Matt Havranek 1201 Third Avenue P. O. 347 Conway, Pa. Louis Bodnar, and so forth, contributed to a program which satisfied the social wants of all the picnickers. A very interesting episode of the day was the motor car caravan bearing the Arthur Görgey and the Ilona Zrínyi girl scouts, these groups led by William Bardossy and Mrs. Francis Beodray. Special thanks for a job well done goes to Mrs. Albert Toth, president of the Social Club, and to her assistants, Mrs. Emery Készéi, Mrs. Joseph Vincze, Mrs. Bela Szabó, Flora Toth, Mrs. Daniel Szucs, Mrs. Joseph Brassay and Mrs. John Ignacz; also, to Emery Készéi, president of Branch 45, Dr. Julius Nadas, recorder, Eugene Vincze, Louis Szenessy and Stephen Kovács. A harvest festival is planned for the fall. Most of the success in this world has come about because people have done things long before they got sense enough not to try them.
