SEE THE SIGHTS WHILE IN GOTHAM PAGE 8 Verhovay Journal May 19, 1954. A Thing of Beauty Is A Joy for Ever GEORGIANA FODOR This title is borrowed from the immortal words of John Keats, English' poet (1795-1821). The full beauty and operatie voice of Georgiana Fodor will lend enchantment to the VICTORY DINNERNIGHT OF BUDAPEST DANCE May 29, during 1954 National Verhovay Fellowship Days. Miss Fodor, who has been in America for three years, studied operatic music in Budapest, Vienna and Salzburg. Many are the laureis of this Magyar beauty: She won first prize in an Italian singing contest; she sang over WHOM, New York City; she took part in the Free Europe Program, which was broadcast to Hungary; She gave a concert at Carl Fisher Hall, January 1952; she was with the London Opera Company, on tour in The United States, and sang part of Gilda; she toured also with Jávor Pál and Sárossy-Szüle Mihály. Miss Fodor expects to tour South America in the near future. VERHOVAY YOUNGSTOWN BRANCHES: 21, 108, 364, 514. Well, this is the month when comes the Memorial Day week end, and all Verhovayans will head East to New York for the 11th annual big Verhovay shindig. Yessir, about this time of the year you start feeling that certain something which makes you look forward to the tournament trip with a bit of wild anticipation. For those who have followed the tournament trail through these past ten years, I’ll bet they have stored in their memories a wealth of experiences they will never forget. Just think of the various cities they have visited and the different sites they have beheld, the many interesting people they’ve met, striking up close acquaintances. All this they have etched into their memories to be stored up for pleasant reminiscing for years to come. We are SURE this New York affair will be one of the biggest and best yet. Field Supervisor GABE NAMETH announces the newer and more economical arrangement for the local crowd in regards to our trip to New York It calls for the package plan to include only the cost of the round trip fare of $24.04 for one adult Federal Tax included. Of course this applies only if we send 25 or more. This trip, planned by the Erie Railroad, will also provide free bus service from the station to the hotel and back. We must travel together on the going trip but may return individually within the limit of the ticket, which will be eight days in addition to date of sale. A family plan is also offered for those who will take their families, whereby all children under 12 years of age will be carried free and those 12 and under 16 years for half fare. The setup sounds real good, and the railroad has an excellent overnight service from Youngstown to New York, leaving Youngstown at 7:13 P. M. EST, and arriving in New York at 8:25 A. M. On the return, the train leaves New York ..at . 8:30 P. M., EST, and arrives in Youngstown at 10:06 the next morning. Both / trains carry wide window, reclining seat coaches, all room sleeping cars and dining cars. Our fair City is sending five bowling teams to the tournament: two girls’ teams and three teams of men. The Dumas Manufacturing Corp., girls of Br. 21, has MILLIE CLAIR, MARGARET BUNCHY, IRENE BUNCHY, IRENE GIANFRANCISCO and CAROL RUSSO. The fair sex fron) Br. 364 are: IRENE KADY, Capt., TELMA MILLER, FRIEDA BENISH, MARY WITTWAY and MARY PADERY. The men going from Br. 108 are: JOE TURNER, Capt., JOHN ASHLEY, FRANK HORVATH, ANDY BANYOTS and GEORGE SKEBO. Then there’s that happy-go-lucky crowd of ANDY BLASKO’S. They have two teams under the Lackey Tires banner: ANDY MIGLETS, JOHN BARKÓ, JULIUS MOREY, BOB PADERY and, of course, ANDY BLASKO. The second team has PHIL HOUSER, MARIO REDA. STEVE SIMON, ED. BARKÓ. An added note of interest concerns the father and son combination entered in the doubles events, JOHN BARKÓ and son ED. BARKÓ. Also entered in doubles are MARY TURNER and MARGARET ASHLEY. CHARLES URAY is also entering the singles events. Guests making the trip are DAN GIANFRANCISCO and FREDDIE HORVATH. Of course we haven’t the names of the many others attending, but they’ll have a fine time, we’re sure. During- our last visit to the Home Office, we were invited out for coffee by six of the lovelies working there. We, meaning STAN RUZ, the branch manager from Sharon, Pa., JOE TISZA, were remarking on the way to the coffee shop the fines gesture of the gals in treating their out-oftown guests. Well, all we can say is: Memo to visiting branch managers: When asked out for coffee by office girls, bring your wallet; you’ll be needing same. STAN RUZ remarked that if he is to attend their summer picnic and fulfill the extended invitation of the girls, he most likely will have to come with a trailer loaded down with food and drinks. AL JOCZIK must have his hands full with that crew. Fraternally, STEVE MISLAY, 528 Dorothy Avenue, Youngstown, Ohio. Phone: RI 6-1496. Ten children of Mr. Mészáros, their marriage partners, and twenty-one grandchildren came together to honor the elderly gentleman who is one of the best known in the Pittsburgh area among Hungarians and in Verhovay circles. In all, fortytwo participated in the happy gathering. Mr. Mészáros is a veteran Verhovay branch officer, his leadership at Branch 34, Pittsburgh, having been shown in many ways. At present lie is the president of Branch S4, was its manager for years, and he'd other officer positions at the branch. Verhovay go-getter that he has been, it is a fact that no Mészáros of his family has escaped the magic membership touch of George Meszar03> Verhovay and Branch 34 trail blazer. It is said facetiously that George Mészáros and his relatives, Verhovay members that they are, have enough numerical strength to form their own branch. Congratulations on your seventieth birthday, Mr. Mészáros!
