Celebrezze, Cleveland-, Ohio’s new Mayor, is the latest public figure to become a member of Branch 14 the large Cleveland branch noted for its outstanding members in civic and political life. Above the popular Mayor receives his Verhovay membership certificate from Field Supervisor Leslie J. Dus of-Cleveland, who manages Branch 14. To the left of the Field Supervisor is Emry Kovach, President of Branch 14; to the right of' Mayor Celebrezze are Judge Louis Petrash of Cleveland, Verhovay Director Coloman Kolozsvary, Cleveland, and Joseph Szalay, Cleve­land, a former vice-president of Verhovay. Apparently it is good for the Cleveland mayors to join Verhovay and Branch 14. Justice Harold H. Burton of the Supreme Court, Governor Frank Lausche of Ohio and United States Senator Thomas Burke are former Cleve­land mayors and they are members of Branch 14. Other notables in Branch 14 are Judges Louis Petrash, Julius Kovachy, Andrew Kovachy, Joseph Stearns, County Commissioner Henry W. Speeth and Police Prosecutor August Bessenyey . NEW BRANCH MANAGER Emery Benko, 207 Sycamore St., Brownsville, Pa. Branch 45 CLEVELAND, OHIO REPORT Branch 45 has initiated a revived social and fraternal life within the branch. At a recent meeting it wras decided to follow every business meeting with a social Accordingly, more than 100 mem­bers were present at the recent card party. Within the branch a group has been formed called the “New- Americans,” who have been in this country only a few years. NEW BRANCH MANAGER Samuel Geresti, Box 74, Avella, Pa. As the month of April draws closer, the anticipated Grand Easter Ball to be held on Easter Sunday, April 18, 1954, is being prepared for with the usual pomp and circum­stance. Branch Tfj will hold this dance in conjunction with the Dalárda, 4th Street and Girard- Avenue. All the members who attended the previous dance, which was grac­ed by John Toth and his orchestra, will realize the joyful time they will have again, since we have had the good fortune of obtaining the same orchestra. To add sparkle to the gay festivi­ties, there will be a dance and popularity contest, with prizes for those who win. The dances by which the contestants will be judged are the csárdás, waltz and fox trot. Dancing will commence at eight Branch 482 BECKLEY, W. .VA. BOWLING The Women’s Bowling Team of Branch 482 took part in the West Virginia Bowling Tournament at Charleston, W. Va., March 13-14, 1954. The team bowled at 9:00 P. M. the 13th and 1:00 P. M. the 14th. Captain of Branch 482’s Women’s Bowling Team is Miss Mary Zuchick. Scores will appear in the next issue. o’clock P. M., and the admission to all members is $1.00. We feel quite sure that all our members will want to spend Easter Sunday evening together in the cheery atmosphere of the Dalárda, enjoying music played by the best and an evening’s entertainment pre­pared to exceed all previous records. To all our members, may we say that you must make it a point to keep evening of April 18 open so that you may spend it together with all your friends at the Dalárda. The bowling team of Branch 76 is preparing to journey to New York over the Memorial Day holiday to compete in the yearly bowling tour­nament. More information will be given concerning this trip in a later issue of the Verhovay Journal. We know our bowling team will return home with honors for Branch 76, or in all respects, a job “well done.” 1954 RED CROSS CAMPAIGN
