August 19, 1953 Named To Important Post DWIGHT K. HAMBORSKY Detroit member of Branch 36, Dwight K. Hamborsky, prominent attorney and south west Detroit community leader, was recently appointed an assistant U. S. District Attorney by District Attorney Fred. W. Kaess. Hamborsky practices 1 a w with his father, Aladar H. Hamborsky (Hámborszky), at 8005 West Jefferson Avenue, Detroit. Dwight, who was one of the leaders during the presidential campaign, met the Eisenhowers when they came to Detroit. The then candidate expressed delightful surprise at meeting a namesake. In his young life — he is still in the early thirties — Dwight K. Hamborsky has been active in various worthwhile efforts too numerous for mention here. On the paternal side Dwight descends from the illustrious Hámborszky family of Hungary, and his grandfather was the Rev. Julius Hámborszky, prominent Reformed minister who organized Pittsburgh Hungarians of the Calvinist faith and founded the Hungarian Reformed Church in Scranton, Pa., where he was its minister for fifty years. His maternal ancestors were the John Kelsey family, who voyaged across the sea on the Mayflower, and relationship can be traced to early President Benjamin Harrison. Dwight K. Hamborsky is married to the former Betty Beardsley of Frankfort, Indiana daughter of a prominent physician. They have two children, Dwight Jr., 8, and Jane Anna, 5. We congratulate this young lav/yer on his latest achievement and we are following his remarkable progress with deep interest. Verhovay Journal PAGE 11 BRANCH 15 — CHICAGO, ILL. By: Andrew Janovics, Vice-President SENTINEL Your Health From the Medical Society of the State of Pennsylvania and the Allegheny County Medical Society The bowling season is just around the corner with September creeping np pretty fast. If you have not registered as yet, you better do so at once if you wish to bowl before all the teams are filled. For those who can bowl on Wednesday we will have a bowling league of 16 or 18 teams at Gateway Recreation, 6432 West North Avenue, 9:30 every Wednesday night. For those who can not bowl Wednesday but wish to bowl Friday, we will have a league Friday nights at Lakeview Recreation, 3239 N. Clark Street, which will start at £:00 P.M. This will be an 8 team league. There has been quite a few bowlers who say they may bowl both nights. Therefore, I suggest that if you wish to bowl with the Branch 15 bowlers, please register as soon as possible with our Sports President, George Reedy, 4446 W. Monroe Street, telephone — Columbus 1-1123 to let him know which night you wish to bowl. Do this now — Do not delay. Sign up while there is still an opening. The stork has been busy bringing joy and new Verhovay Branch 15 members to the following homes: Congratulations to Betty and ‘Andrew (Géza) Barna upon the birth of their first child. Congratulations to Charles and Margaret Korponya upon the birth of their first boy, who entered this world in the Columbus Hospital on July 14, 1953, with the proud assistance of Dr. Alex Friend. This was an event in the Korponya family, as they have two daughters (now quite young ladies in and close to their teens), and we understand Charlie really celebrated the birth of his third child but first son. Congratulations to the Gilfoy’s (Mary Risko) of California upon the birth of their fourth c\iild. Was wondering if the Risko and Soo families were in some sort of contest, or something, as they were both tie with 14 grandchildren, but now, with the addition of the new baby Gilfoy, the senior Andrew Risko’s are now the proud grandparents of their 15th grandchild. We wonder if the Soo clan will let them get away with this, or will they become tie again? The Schybai family is happy now that their son, Steve Mate, is home with an honorable discharge from the Army . . . Mrs. Sophia Petrick proudly reports that her son had another promotion. By the way,if many of you are so inclined it would be nice to write him a few words. His address is: George “R” Petrick, 302 15 33 PNI USN Office of Chief of Naval Operations OPNAV (OP—40) Navy Department Washington 25, D. C. Our. president, James Radi, was away enjoying his vacation during the month of July, and now, I am on my way to Minnesota to enjoy some fishing. Please Note-OUR Manager, ERNEST TAYLOR, will be away on his vacation from August 23 until after Labor Day, which means the OFFICE WILL BE CLOSED during that time. In case of any emergency, please call me, Van Buren 6-8019, and I shall be glad to give whatever assistance I can. And now, with sadness, we bow our heads for a moment of short prayer for our two departed members : Stephen Rimán, passed away and left our midst. Mr. Rimán had lost his dear wife just six months ago. Now he too has gone. Here is an example of what fraternalism means. Mr. Rimán had no relatives, and from his personal effects it was found that he was a Verhovay member. Our District Manager, Mr. Ernest Taylor, was called and notified Of his death, whereupon Ernie assumed all responsibility, making all the necessary funeral arrangements even to pall bearers. Mr. Rimán was escorted to his final resting place with members of his Verhovay branch present in their last respects to the departed member. I, too, attended his funeral Friday, July 10, and it made a little warm feeling in my heart to know that this Verhovay member was not completely forgotten. It is with sadness that we report the death of our member, Paul Moravseik of Bellwood. Mr. Moravscik was laid out at the Höllerbach Funeral Home. Father Magyar said the last rites. Mr.- Moravscik was taken to his final resting place at St. Joseph Cemetery. To his dear wife and members of his family we extend our deepest condolence. In parting, a thought: DO YOU CARRY ENOUGH INSURANCE? .Regardless of the amount, do call our Ernie Taylor, Humboldt 9-2933, and he will be glad to give you details on any type of insurance you may be interested in. Do It Today. Tomorrow May Be Too Late; Why do so many patients call their doctor at 2 o’clock in the morning? * * » Elementary, Doctor Watson. =» * * People worry more at night, — the day’s distractions are no more, and while others are sleeping peacefully, the worrying one is wide awake. * * * He has an illness, and has had it for several days. * * * It doesn’t seem so bad in the daytime, as when he is very busy at his work he minimizes the trouble. * * * Then comes night and the long, quiet hours and he begins to think more and more about the trouble and it gets to be a bigger and higger concern. , * * * .. .Finally, anxiety reaches the crucial point where he decides to do something about it — so he gets up and calls his doctor. * ¥ * The doctor has probably had a busy and nerve-wracking day and he needs his äleep. * * * But a doctor is expected to be on hand whenever called, so he goes to the anxious patient. * >{. * The important task of the physician at his moment is to reduce the anxiety of the patient to a tolerable level. * * * There is the person with chronic illness who will not greatly improve under any method of treatment, and knowing his ailment to be incurable, he simply has to live with it. In such a case, as in many other situations, the doctor’s sympathetic understanding is of importance to to the patient. * * * The physician-patient relationship depends on something more than drugs.
