Branch 226 SUCCESSFUL AFFAIR The joint picnic held by Branch 226 and the bowlers of the McKeesport Hungarian Social Club at Kossuth Park on June 21st was a very gratifying event. Leaders of the social were Frank Debreczeni, president of Branch 226, aind Ernest Fazekas, McKeesport district manager. Honoring the affair with their presence were National President John Bencze and National Auditor John Sabo, the latter officer a native McKeesporter who still fondly cherishes the city of his birth. Verhovay guests from the East Pittsburgh, Homestead, Duquesne The echoes of the last bowling tournament, still ringing in our ears, remind us once again that immediate action should be taken to organize the branch bowling teams. Every year the National Executive Tournament Committee, carrying out the decisions of the Board of Directors, tries to fulfill its obligations well, and year after year we have seen many improvements as new angles are tried and old kinks are ironed out. While it has been a difficult task to satisfy all concerned, the Committee has tried its best to make our tournaments satisfactory to the great majority of the bowlers. It is our desire to do a good job to please as many members as we can, and, with this in mind, we call attention of all the bowlers to the necessity of begining now the program of bowling for the coming season. At the present time no one knows where the next bowling tournament will be staged. This matter will be given consideration by the Board of Directors at its September, 1953 ■meeting. The Board will review the Toledo tournament, then decide what iaction should be taken for the future. The findings of the Board of Directors will be known to us after /the September meeting. Every year we receive letters from members seeking information on how to get a team or league started. To help our branches organize teams or leagues we publish the following, which we feel will be of invaluable aid: If your branch does not have a tenpin bowling team but would like to form one this year, the proper place to turn for assistance is your City Bowling Association. The City Bowling Association is a branch of the American Bowling Clongress, similar in respect to what your own branch is to the Verhovay Fraternal Insurance Association. City Bowling and Pittsburgh branches joined to swell the merry-making Verhovayans and their friends. Out of town guests included a Los Angeles, California, representation. Special thanks are tendered to the following for their part in the Branch 226 event: Frank Debreczeni, president, Stephen Breda, vice president, George Viszokay, treasurer, Ernest Fazekas, district manager and controller, Alexander Szabó and Frank Wagner, controllers; the women, Mrs. Frank Debreczeni, Mrs. Alexander Nagy, Mrs. Frank Jeremias, who served in the kitchen, Mrs. Frank Debreczeni, Mrs. Ernest Fazekas, Mrs. Stephen Breda, Mrs. Charles Gerzsenyi, Mrs. John Kalman and Mrs. John Balint, who sold tickets. Branch 226 is grateful to all. BUFFALO, N. Y. Branch 383 CHANGE OF ADDRESS The Buffalo District Office is now located at 152 ONTARIO ST., telephone RI-1888. New office hours are twice a week — Thursday 1:00 to 6:00 P. M., Saturday from 10:00 A. M. to 1:00 P. M. The regular monthly meetings are held at 1035 Grant St., on the second Tuesday of the month, at 7:00 P. M. PITTSBURGH, PA. Branch 575 NEW BRANCH MANAGER Frank Gyapjas, 1511 Forbes St., Pittsburgh, Pa. Telephone CO-1-0692. Associations are located in almost every city, town or village where bowling alley establishments exist. Each association has a regular body of officers - president, secretary, treasurer, etc. These bowling leaders regulate the tenpin bowling activity of their locality in the interests of the American Bowling Congress. They are in these functions to help all male bowlers in the organization of bowling teams and bowling leagues. These officers, principally the secretary, will give whatever aid is necessary to help your branch properly organize its team or teams. They will also assist you in organizing your own bowling league if you have four or more teams in your branch. If you have only one team and you wish to find an A. B. C. sanctioned league which will admit your team to league membership, these officials will render this service also. No problem is too small or too great for them; they are serving to help all tenpin bowlers, to organize and to play under the sanction of the American Bowling Congress. IF YOU DO NOT KNOW HOW TO CONTACT THE OFFICIALS OF YOUR LOCALITY’S CITY BOWLING ASSOCIATION, VISIT ANY ONE OF YOUR BOWLING ALLEYS. THE PROPRIETOR OR THE MANAGER WILL BE QUITE WILLING TO GIVE YOU THE NAME AND ADDRESS OF THE OFFICIAL TO CONTACT. Now just for the sake of example, in the Pittsburgh district any branch wishing to organize a team or league need simply to contact R. R. Dillinger, 1729 Chartiers Avenue, McKees Rocks, Pa. Mr. Diliinger, who is Verhovay’s tournament secretary, is also secretary of the City Bowling Association of Pittsburgh. Years ago, when we began our bowling tournaments, it was the aforesaid bowling association, and chiefly Mr. Diliinger, who gave us the technical advice essential to the organization and promotion of our tournaments. The above has been about American Bowling Congress sanction for male bowlers. The same information, however, holds true for women bowlers except that their sanction is under the auspices of the Women’s International Bowling Congress. The W. I. B. C. maintains City Bowling Associations for women bowlers throughout the country, just as the A. B. C. does for men bowlers. It is our sincere advice that you contact the officials of the City Bowling Associations as early as possible for the services. Their expert guidance will make easy the fulfillment of your bowling plans. --------------------------ONE MORE ROUND Life is queer with its twdsts and turns As every one of us sometimes learns, And many a failure turns about When he might have won if he’d stuck it out. Stick to your task and thothe pace seems slow — You may succed with one more blow: Success is failure inside out— The silver tint of the clouds of doubt — And you never can tell how close you are, It may be near when it seems afar; So stick to fight when you’re hardest hit — It’s when things seem worst that you mustn’t quit. —Author unknown.
