Mattie * Branch 296 The biggest event of the year is finally over. I am very glad to report that our picnic on June 14 turned out to be a thrilling success. Usually when an affair of this sort is held there is always great concern shown for the weather. But we had our fingers crossed and lady luck was with us for it did not rain one drop. I think that everyone has come to the conclusion that the date was a little early for the warm weather. But in spite of the cool weather, we had a grand turnout. A very sincere thanks to everyone who attended this event. It is felt that with a warmer day a still bigger crowd could have been anticipated. The biggest compliment received was from the many people who expected us to have two picnics this year, also from the people who anxiously inquired about the date of our next picnic, Never before have so many inquiries been received. Great appreciation and tribute is given to all our members who did such a good job in making this picnic a success. Special thanks to the men who butchered the two hogs, to the women who worked in the kitchen, and to the men who worked at the other concessions. The kolbász, laci pecsenye were very popular, in fact all the food was a complete sellout. The Black Angus Rotisserie was won by Joseph Barta of Logans Ferry. The set of three lawn chairs was awarded to Miss Dorothy Shavensky of Leechburg. The music of Joseph Baldwin and his orchestra was enjoyed. The dancei floor is the best that can be found anywhere. Two of our loyal workers were greatly missed at the picnic. On June 11 Nick Polombo, with one slip of the foot, fell and broke his leg in two places. The next day Paul Pastierik was rushed to the hospital. The members of Branch 296 wish both these men a very speedy recovery. CONGRATULATIONS To Mr. and Mrs. Alex Korponay, Jr. upon the arrival of a daughter. And to Mr. and Mrs. Michael Horwath upon the birth of a son.
