FRATERNAL SOCIETIES COOPERATING WITH BLOOD DONOR PROGRAM (Continued from page 1) At the 10th Annual National Verhovay Bowling Tournament in Toledo we went about seeking to learn the impressions our giant sports rally had on various persons seeing the matches — members and non-members, visitors and guests, friends and total strangers, and so forth. This, direct and indirect, in the order of the interviews, is how they expressed their sentiments: SAM WALKER, colored, pinman at Hagerty Bowling Center, site of our tournament — Sam spoke so fast, no doubt because our Verhovay bowlers had him going at top speed, that we couldn’t take down his direct quotation. We noted, however, that his whole approach was a negative one. Sam kept muttering that affairs such as our tournament' made his work much harder and faster. Well, thanks, Sam, for your efforts in Verhovay’si behalf. E. D. HULL, vice president, Hagerty Bowling Center — “I’m sure it draws your members closer together. I feel it is conducive to a greater membership. It’s a beautiful idea.” DAVE HULL, manager, Hagerty Bowling Center, son of the above — This personable! young man voiced substantially the same opinion as his father, although on a different occasion and without knowledge that his father had been interviewed. JOHN ISABELLA, Saturday driver of our chartered bus — “I think it’s wonderful... should be more like this. It’s real nice.” JACK HAGERTY, 76 year old owner of Hagerty Bowling Center, nationally known in bowling — “I think it’s very outstanding. I’ve never had a more cheerful, well-mannered group of bowlers than your Verhovay players, and you arei welcome back anytime!” RALPH DILLINGER JR., who assists his father' Ralph “Pop” Diliinger, our tournament secretary for the past number of years — “The Verhovay tournaments are tops. The work connected with them, is tough.” JOE OWENS, colored, pin captain, Hagerty Bowling Center — Joe said our turnout was quite an impressive showing, and he promised his pin setters would keep the games going smoothly. JOSEPH BODNAR, member1 of Branch 138, Gary, Indiana — This gentleman gave credit to our tournaments as doing the most for Verhovay fraternalism. J. C. PARISH, Sunday driver of our chartered bus — “I think it’s wonderful. I used to bowl with the Yacht Club and we did the same. I now bowl with the Traction Club. We wound up in second place.” FRANK SZAPPANOS, Cleveland singing and recording artist — This well-known Hungarian entertainer, who sang at the Victory Dinner, gave his full endorsement to the tournaments. ADAH THOMPSON, assistant manager of the back 10 alleys at Hagerty Bowling Center — “I think it’s wonderful,” said the charming lady of our yearly tournaments. JOSEPH KRUEGER, who! with his wife operates the Joe & Elaine Snack Bar at Hagerty Bowling Center — “My opinion is that your tournaments are wonderful. They get people together. And, of course, such big events are money makers for me. I enjoyed serving you Verhovay bowlers — had lots of fun with you.” C. J. McLAUCHLIN, 84 year old spectator who lives across the way from Hagerty Bowling Center — “Wonderful! One of the best tournaments we’ve ever had here. They’re all nice people. Ladies and gentlemen all.” Dear Readers: These are very nice, sincere comments* are they not? points before home and life may again begin. Many will require long periods of surgery, medication and rest. For these the war will not come to an end until the final operation has been performed on their stricken bodies and the last night has been spent in a veteran’s hospital. It should also be kept in mind that a recent discovery revealed that the magic fluid — blood •— contains Gamma Globulin. “GG” as it is frequently referred to, id now being made into millions of doses to prevent measles, infectious, hepatities and the paralytic effects of polio. The government is now setting up rules and regulations for the dispensation of this new disease preventive, thus all citizens of our country may benefit.
