(Bowler Louis Farkas was ill at the time the picture was taken.) • BRANCH 15 — CHICAGO» ILL. — SENTINEL By: Andrew Janovics, Vice-President Now the bowling is completed for this season, except of course for the various tournaments, especially our grand tournament for all of our members, which this year is held in the fair city of Toledo, Ohio. Many smiling faces were seen, especially when they found out how much money they got back in prizes. The women did quite well for themselves too, as our Bess Wesesku had a high game of 241, with little Betty Taylor taking first place prize in the swe'epstakes and Marge Fodor taking second prize Now we are looking forward to our Toledo tournament. J bowled in the ABC Tournament at the Coliseum in April and, although I can not say we came in as leader', my team did get one of the minor prizes and we had a very nice time. We still have some tournaments to bo vl in a few weeks from now but, most of all, everyone in Chicago is looking- to the Toledo tournament. The weeks fly and, before we know it, it'will be time to leave, with all of us determined to bowl our best. Well, watch out you other bowlers. By the way, I wish to take this opportunity to let you members know that Ernest Taylor-, our individual champion, who is also our- district manager, will be in Toledo to protect his title, if possible. So, therefore, the office will be closed that week end. Of course, Saturday being- Memorial Pay, it would be closed anyway. As it’s not certain he can be back by Monday evening for. the evening hours, June 1st, the office will be closed Monday also. If anything important should come up, you may get in touch with Mr. Taylor (Ernie) at his home Tuesday, June 2nd. To all those bowlers who wish tu bowl with the Branch 15 Bowling- League next season, starting in September, I wish to say: Please register- at once with our Sports President, George Reedy, 4446 W. Monroe St, Telephone Columbus 1-1123. He will be glad to answer any of your questions regarding time and place of bowling. Do this as soon as possible as tfcie teams are being entered now. TO ALL THE TOURNAMENT BOWLERS OF ALL THE BRANCHES: WE WISH THE BEST OF LUCK AND SUCCESS AT THE TOLEDO TOURNAMENT (although, of course, quite selfishly, we wish the best of luck for own branch.) We had a fairly nice turnout at our April meeting-. The kolbász sandwiches went like hot cakes. We wish lo thank the following- ladies for their kind and generous donation of the delicious cakes and coffee that were served: Margaret Fodor, Irene Exner, Betty Taylor, Ann Barango, Mary Hodits, Ann Mladonicky and Louise Janovics. Many, many thanks. Ladies. It was grand! It would be wonderful if all our members could stay healthy but, alas, it is not so, and this month we have added to our sick list Caroline Szepi, Mrs. Susan Takovitz, Ollie Kunstadt and Joseph Riss. We hope they will soon be well again. WELCOME to our new members William Porreca, Bonita Rose Exner, Robert Joseph Lehor, Nancy Jane Saillor, Elizabeth Igyarto, Deanna Rose Igyarto, Ernest Torrez and Alex Ronto. It is a joy to have you as members and we do hope to see you at our meetings. The Lux Family, on Orchard Street, will have a busy month in June as both of their daughters will be graduating’. Eleanor graduates from the eighth grade of the St. James Lutheran School. Rita will graduate from the Waller High School. We wish to extend our . congratulations to them. This month we also have sad news to report. Two of our members passed away to their eternal rest in April. Mrs. Heien Dudics passed away in April. She -was a victim of the terrible olast in the Haber Corporation which has claimed a total of 35 lives to date. To her daughter and son we extend our deepest sympathy. Also in April we received the news that Mrs. Flint (the former Mrs. Gaspar Viga) passed away. To her family we wish to extend our deepest sympathy. Our Young People’s Group, (between the ages of 16 and 26) held their meeting on Sunday, May 3. They ask that if you-are in this age group, please come to their next meeting to get acquainted. They wish to plan their social calendar for the year and would like all the members to be present. Therefore, when you get your postal card informing you of the Young People’s meeting, do try your best to attend. We know you will enjoy it. No special references required, just be a Verhovay Branch 15 member between the ages, stated above and you are automatically a member of the Young People’s Group. Why not take advantage of it? Come, see for yourself. And new, for news of our comingpicnic. Ticket sales have been goingfine. HAVE YOU YOUR TICKETS ALREADY ? If not, do get them at our next meeting, or call me and I shall be glad to see that you receive yours. The price is just 75 cents, including tax. Come early, stay late and have a good time. All neighboring branches cordially invited! In closing', I wish to again say, remember our picnic. A whole day in the fresh country air, with music and friends and the smell of kolbász and sauerkraut. What could be better ?!---------------------------Br. 8 To Commemorate 55th Anniversary Award to Be ‘Given Branch 8, Johnstown, Pennsylvania, one of the older Verhovay branches, will soon celebrate its 55th founding anniversary June 7, 1953. The grand occasion will take place in the auditorium of St. Emerich’s Roman Catholic Church, Chestnut Street and Sixth Avenue, Johnstown. A program of interesting memoirs will viv.dly tell the story of the branch which in 1898 was founded by- 7 Hungarians, immediately added 12 others to its membership, and today boasts an enrollment of 740 in the branch ranks. The appreciable rise in membership may be attributed to the faithful branch officers and members over a period of many years. Special honors, in the award of the “Illustrious” citation and the Gold Emblem, will be paid Frank Dudash for his 30 years loyal service to Branch, 8 and to Verhovay as a whole. Director Louis Vizi, of the Johnstown area, will present the award. Dinner will be served promptly at 6 o’clock to permit ample time for dancing to the ’ music of Joe Baldwin’s Gypsy String Orchestra of McKeesport, Pa. As reservations will be limited to the actual seating capacity of the hall, tickets should be got as soon as possible for the happy Branch 8 event.
