DEMING, PRESIDENT NATIONAL FRATERNAL CONGRESS OF AMERICA Whereas, for some years, there has prevailed in this country a custom designed to set aside a particular week during which the attention of the public generally and the Ten Million Americans affiliated with the Fraternal Benefit Societies of this country may be forcibly reminded of the importance of the Fraternal Benefit System and its relation to the public welfare of all of our people. Now, therefore, by virtue of the authority vested in me as President of the National Fraternal Congress of America, I hereby designate the week of June 8-14, 1953, as FRATERNAL WEEK to be observed in conjunction with National Flag Day. During FRATERNAL WEEK, I desire that all persons in this country recognize the record of the Fraternal Benefit Societies and I urge the members to use every means within their power to publicize the outstanding accomplishments of the Fraternal System which is operated for the benefit and protection of the people and which reflects the true spirit of freedom and good will among all classes of our citizens. State Congresses and every Society will, I am sure, respond heartily to this service call which will make the celebration of FRATERNAL WEEK and FLAG DAY memorable as one of the outstanding patriotic events of 1953. I suggest that a copy of this Proclamation appear in the official organ of every Society. THE ROYALTY OF THE PROM King and Queen of the prom. That’s the beautiful girl, Therese Marie Kuti, and her good looking escort, Jerry Spethman, both senior high school students. M iss Kuti will graduate from St. John’s High School, Omaha, Nebraska; Mr. Spethman will graduate from Creighton Prep, same city. Both will attend Creighton University in September. The prom Queen is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Caspar Kuti, prominent Verhovay members of Branch 278, Omaha. Of course Therese Marie is a member too. Her father is the energetic manager of Branch 278. We commend the Creighton Prep Junior-Senior prom for its fine judgment in the selection of its King and Queen. It requires the extraction from the pituitary glands of 1,350 hogs to supply thirty doses of the drug ACTH. An estimated eig'hty tons of grit and grime are deposited per square mile every month over the New York- New Jersey metropolitan area.
