No one who has attended one of the bowling tournaments of the past will want to miss this event because it promises to be the best ever held. The two­­day affair will be on May 30- 31, Saturday and Sunday. However, guests will begin arriving at the headquarters hotel, the new and modern: Commodore Perry, as early as Friday noon, May 29. The struggle for the Albert B. Ari and the Frank J. Brogley Me­morial trophies, as well as the other trophies and the big pot bf cash, will bring together the. largest number of members in the bowling competition at the new and modern Hagerty CITY OF TOLEDO OHIO LLOYD E. HOTEL TO BOWLING ALLEYS — A regular­­bus service will be maintained, similar to the service rendered in Columbus last year. The schedule will be maintained rigidly. All the bowlers and others who wish to get to the alleys on time must catch the proper bus. NO VERHOVAY BAR SERVICE AT HOTEL OR ALLEYS — No special arrangements have been made for special bar service at eit’.jsr the hotel or the bowling alleys. Everyone is on his own in choosing his refreshment place. PLACES TO EAT — Our members are requested to patronize those, eating houses advertising in our Tournament Album. TOURNAMENT ALBUM — Everyone attending the tournamentl will receive a beautiful program book’et. Please patronize those who are advertised in our booklet. CHURCH SERVICES — Time and Churches are listed in the Tourna­ment Album. VERY IMPORTANT — Mayor Lloyd E. Boulet of Toledo has officially pro­claimed May 30, 1953 as Ver­hovay Hungarian Day. All Toledo will be observing this officially proclaimed holiday, for the Verhovay members. See entire proclamation on this page. IN CONCLUSION — THERE WILL BE MANY NOTABLES ATTENDING THE VICTORY DINNER. MANY OF THE ILLUSTRIOUS VISI­TORS WILL BE ATTENDING THEIR FIRST VERHOVAY AFFAIR. THE COMMITTEE WOULD LIKE TO IMPRESS ALL OUR ILLUSTRIOUS FRIENDS WITH THE USU­ALLY GOOD MANNERS EVI­DENT AT OUR SOCIAL E­­VENTS. IT HAS HAPPENED IN THE PAST, HOWEVER, THAT A FEW MEMBERS LET THEIR ENTHUSIASM TURN INTO IMPATIENCE, SOME­WHAT TO THE EMBAR­RASSMENT OF THE OTHERS ATTENDING. LET US ALL DO OUR BEST TO REMAIN PATIENT EVEN IF THE PRO­GRAM WOULD SEEM A LIT­TLE LONG. LET US GIVE EVERYONE ON THE PRO­GRAM A CHANCE TO BE IN­TRODUCED AND TO SPEAK, WITHOUT ANY EVIDENCE OF IMPATIENCE. THIS GRAND OCCASION COMES, BUT ONCE A YEAR, THERE­FORE IT IS FITTING THAT WE ALL SHOW OUR BEST MANNERS AND EXTEND EVERY COURTESY TO OUR GUESTS AND TO THOSE WHO MAKE THE TOURN­AMENTS AND FELLOWSHIP DAYS POSSIBLE. YOUR UN­DERSTANDING AND COOPE­RATION SHALL BE APPRE­CIATED. WHEREAS, thie citizens of Hungarian birth or descent of our city proved to be God fearing, honest, dependable, industrious and patriotic people, who contributed a lot to the development and im­provement of this cityj and WHEREAS, the Verhovay Fraternal Insurance Association, an organization with more than 60,000 members mostly of Hungarian descent, has been organized in 1886, in the City of Hazelton, County of Luzerne, State of Pennsylvania, for the purpose of taking care of widows, orphans, sick and aged members, as well as to assist its juvenile members in their education, and, furthermore, to promote sport activities among its mem­bers} and WHEREAS, the Verhovay Association, besides being an insurance undertaking, is the largest and strongest Hungarian American Club, and as such it made it possible for its Toledo Branch Ho. 27 to be the host of the 1953 National Verhovay Fellowship Days and of the National Verhovay Bowling Tournament scheduled for May 30 and 31, an event which will be the biggest fraternal gathering that has ever taken place in Hungarian American circles in this City of'Toledo: NOW, THEREFORE, I, Lloyd E. Roulet, Kayor of Toledo, hereby pro­claim May 30, 1953, as HUNGARIAN DAY and join with the many citizens of Hungarian descent in Toledo in welcoming their Hungarian brethren attending the Verhovay festivities in Toledo and ask the citizens of this great city to join in appreciating this demonstration of fraternal­­ism and devotion to the great American principles and ideas.
