April 15, 1953 Verhovay Journal VERHOVAY HONORS CONFERRED ON FOLLOWING JOHN SZALANCZY National Treasurer As part of its official proceedings and as a matter for the official record, the Board of Directors, meeting the week of March 23-28, 1953, formally and with attendant festivities presented three Verhovay prominents. National Treasurer John Szalanczy, Director Henry Gross and Assistant to National Secretary Leopold Hirsch, the famed and coveted ‘‘Illustrious” Citation and Gold Emblem, symbol and testimonial of faithful and meritorious service to the Verhovay Fraternal Insurance Association. The occasion, ringing with the dignity and sincerity of such a Verhovay event, took place the evening of Wednesday, March 25, in the attractive Venetian Room of the Roosevelt Hotel, one of the better hotels in downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Attending the nice affair were the members of the Board of Directors, the National Officers, William C. Kohut of the Auditing Committee, Dr. Samuel C. Gomory. Verhovay Chief Medical Adviser, Elmer Charles, Field Supervisor. Stephen Matasy, our Legal Counsel, was unable to be present because of family bereavement. National President John Bencze, after the celebrants had finished the sumptuous supper, expounded on the meaning of the award, eulogized the honored recipients of the “Illustrious” Citation and the Gold Emblem, and expressed the appreciation of the Association for having such worthy members who are, first and last, Verhovayans of the first water. Other speakers were National Auditor John Sabo, who spoke in the name of the National Officers, William C. Kohut, Auditing Committee Secretary speaking for that body, Field Supervisor Elmer Charles, who as the representative of our men in the field, addressed the honored three, HENRY GROSS Director ' Í and National Secretary Coloni an Revesz, who very ably spoke the final words of praise. The “Illustrious” Citation ; and the Gold Emblem were presented to National Treasurer Szalanczy by Vice President Julius Macker, to Director Gross by Director Coloman Kolozsvary, and to Assistant to National Secretary Hirsch by j Director Stephen Lang. The honored officers spoke i with deep emotion as they individually expressed their many thanks for the high | awards given them. Long years of devoted service, of course, are necessary to merit the Verhovay “Illustrious” Citation and the Gold Emblem. National Treasurer John Szalanczy has done an outstanding service in his part-LEOPOLD HIRSCH Asst, to National Secretary icular post, and prior to his present position he served as a Verhovay Director, and even before his directorship he gained wide prominence as a Verhovay leader in Chicago as president of Branch 96, plus area activities in the Verhovay field. Director Henry Gross and Assistant to National Secretary Leopold Hirsch were the President and Secretary-Treasurer. respectively, ot the former Workingmen’s Sick Benefit Federation. They were responsible, in the main, for the merger of that organization with the Verhovay Fraternal Insurance Association, and by their endeavors added to the membership and assets of Verhovay. Congratulations to all three for work well done!
