The Board of Directors About to Meet The Board of Directors' Spring meeting of 1953 will be held beginning Monday, March 23, and will last the duration of the week. In so far as their meeting together at the Home Office, this date apparently begins the 1953 business of the Board of Directors, but actualities contradict the superficial. The Board of Directors, for extraordinary reasons requiring their personal presence at the Home Office, may be requested to appear in Pittsburgh any time other than the regularly scheduled dates of the semiannual meetings. However, whenever possible, these extraordinary sessions are avoided for the sake of economy to the organization and undue sacrifice on the part of the members of the Board of Directors, and instead the medium of the mail is employed for the purpose. But the bit of information in this very paragraph clearly shows that the individuals of the Board of Directors are on duty continuously. The so called lull period of the Board of Directors is merely their informal, unheralded home duties for our association—as differentiated from their formal functions at the Home Office. These members of our policy making body, living in and representing the various sections of our Verhovay world, are required to know thoroughly their respective Verhovay territories and to be well aware of the happenings and changes going on in them. They must be the leaders, organizers and advisers of all the branches under their trust. When the members of the Board of Directors come to the Home Office they carry in their minds and have recorded in their reports all Verhovay matters of their interim work at home. There really is no standstill in the Association tasks of the Verhovay directors. With these facts in mind, we should ever honor and respect the members of the Board of Directors for the duties they accept and the sacrifices they make in their official capacities. They WANTED - Millions of Miracle Makers! Over 60 million Americans can be miracle makers. You are probably one of them. Any person from 21 to 59 who is in good health and weighs 110 pounds or more is eligible. The miracle you can perform is saving human life. Yes. you can really help save precious lives. And it is important that you do it right now! Although the miracle of saving human life challenges the imagination, you can do it with a little of your blood. In less than an hour you can simply and painlessly donate a pint of your blood to help someone live. The National Blood Program is calling on you to help in this miracle making business so that no one here at home or our men fighting in Korea need die for want of this vital substance. You are needed at your local Blood Donor Center now. Cal! your local Red Cross Chapter to schedule your donation today. are elected to their positions because of their leadership qualities and their tried unselfish characters and true Verhovay fraternal spirit. Tremendous responsibilities are their lot during their tenures. The only compensation they seek is loyalty based on understanding and brotherhood. The Board of Directors will soon be here fully confident that it shall meet with wisdom and righteousness all its tasks and problems. We have faith in our Board of Directors! National Verhovay Fellowship Days Is A Two-In-One Event Commercial products are often advertised as having- two-in-one benefits. For instance somé shoe preparations dye as well as polish, ß well known gasoline claims 'the addition of anti-rust properties to the power it furnishes, a newly marketed automatic washer both washes and dries clothes, and so forth. Our NATIONAL VERHOVAY FELLOWSHIP DAYS embody TWO benefits in one. This year they are the TENTH ANNUAL NATIONAL BOWLING TOURNAMENT and the SZALANCZY-SZABO -NEW MEMBERSHIP CAMPAIGN. The SZALANCZY-SZABO NEW MEMBERSHIP CAMPAIGN is the nationwide drive by our branch managers, district managers and field supervisors, with the willingassistance of all the members, to conduct a vigorous campaign to swell our Verhovay membership to new heights between now and the close of the drive, May 30-31. Every endeavor must have for its basis an impetus or inspiration. This year we are given encouragement in the new membership drive by the honored names of National Treasurer John Szalanczy and National Auditor John Szabó, whom we are honoring by using their names for the title of the campaign. Last year we did 'the same for National President John Bencze and National Secretary Coloman Revesz. This kind of humble recognition is the only kind National Treasurer Szalanczy and National Auditor Sabo would accept -— their good names to help add encouragement to the campaign to secure more members for our Association. The warm personal feeling which our members entertain for these two officers guarantees the success of the SZALANCZY-SZABO NEW MEMBERSHIP CAMPAIGN. We know that on the occasion of the coming NATIONAL VERHOVAY FELLOWSHIP DAYS, May' 30-31, the announcement of the results of the SZALANCZY-SZABO NEW MEMBERSHIP CAMPAIGN will be very gratifying, for the purpose of the drive is a noble one — the added strength of numbers for our beloved Verhovay and the honors conferred on the two loyal and hard working National Officers whose names grace this campaign. The SZALANCZY-SZABO NEW MEMBERSHIP CAMPAIGN is even now showing splendidly, and it promises a very satisfying finish. The TENTH ANNUAL NATIONAL BOWLING TOURNAMENT is the ultimate in Verhovay’s many sponsored forms of entertainment, and sports loving members may with honest assurance look forward to a ■thrilling-, completely filled time at the momentous yearly event come May 30-31. The many branch teams, men’s and women’s, are now in feverish pitch as the time nears for them to prove their prowess before the nation’s assembled Verhovayans. The members are backing their respective teams to the hilt during this preparatory stage, and when the finals come the bowlers willexperience the din of excited rooting fans egging them on to their best in competition. This healthy sports competition among the branches, endorsed by our Association, reaches its zenith at the ANNUAL NATIONAL BOWLING TOURNAMENT, promoting real good feeling- and fraternalism, and the benefits accrued therefrom by Verhovay defies measurement or calculation. The TENTH ANNUAL NATIONAL BOWLING TOURNAMENT already has all the earmarksof another very great and.truly auspicious Verhovay affair, and there is a possibility that it may be the most successful to date. Our bowlers certainly shall be delighted to play their games ah the Hagerty bowling alleys, with 42 alleys all on one floor in a modernistic new air conditioned building, boasting all kinds of conveniences and comforts, with spaciousness to boot. These twin events, the TENTH ANNUAL NATIONAL BOWLING TOURNAMENT and the close of the SZALANCZY-SZABO NEW MEMBERSHIP CAMPAIGN, will merge into two grand socials when the Night in Budapest dance is held the evening of May 30, and the following- night of the 31st the grand finale, the Victory Banquet. They will climax our 1953 NATIONAL VERHOVAY FELLOWSHIP DAYS. As for the city of Toledo and your headquarters hotel, the Commodore Perry, the pictures thereof which have been appearing every month tell you a far better story and give you clearer information than all the inadequate descriptions by words. The wonderful success of .all our previous yearly tournaments and last year’s splendid reception of the , first NATIONAL VERHOVAY FELLOWSHIP DAYS, and the wide1 enthusiasm as shown by all who attended, is the best endorsement, and advertisement we have to appeal to even more members to attend the festivities of May 30-31, 1953. The occasion shall be a magnificent one. C-rv I
