Journal _________1_________PAGE___ The Verhovay membership remem­bers in time of grief. Branch 573, Cleveland, held a very successful New Year’s Eve Charity Dance. The net proceeds were $363.00. The money was used in part for two orphanages, some was sent to the aid of the homeless in Europe. Largest part of the proceeds was used to practice the motto that cha­rity begins at home. Three U. S. Savings Bonds ($75 each) were pre­sented to the orphans of the re­cently deceased member — Stephen L#nyi. The above photograph was made on the occasion of the presentation John Andreko, industrial repre­sentative of the Bloomington, Indiana branch of the Sinclair Refining Com­pany, and member for the past ten years of Branch 36, Detroit, Michigan, recently graduated from Wayne Uni­versity in Detroit. He received a, Master of Arts Degree in Business Administration having- majored in personnel management. Mi-. Andreko commenced his studies in Februaiy 1946 at night classes; in 1949 he completed his studies and went to Bloomington. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree at the University of Alabama. Later he_ attended teacher training courses so he could qualify as a teacher of English and Science in the high schools of Pennsylvania. The newly-elected officers of Branch 45 in Cleveland took their oath of office at a banquet which was held in their honor. The banquet and inauguration ceremonies were held in the W. S. Evangelical Church Hall. Rev. Gabriel Brachna, pastor of the host parish, offered a suitable prayer for the occasion. National Vice-President Dr. Andrew Kovács, official physician of the branch, was master of ceremonies. Branch President Joseph Drotos greeted the guests and thanked the members for the fine attendance. Originally the plans were for Vice- President Dr. Kovács to administer the oath of office to the new group, but since National Vice-President. Julius Macker of Detroit appeared, Vice-President Dr. Kovács honored Vice-President Macker with the ad­ministration of oaths. The new officers include: Joseph Drotos, president; Louis Balogh, vice-president; Emery Ké­széi, secretary-treasurer; Mrs. Louis Csorba, auditor. Vice-President Dr. Andrew Kovács introduced each officer, requesting each one to make a brief speech. of the bonds by Branch President Dr. Francis Somogyi to the three orphans, Georgia' Stephen and Peter Lányi. Their mother is seen directly behind them. At the extreme right of the pic­ture are Verhovay Director Coloman Kolozsvary and his wife. Also in the picture are Alexander Tihanyi, Mrs. Francis Somogyi (wife of the branch president), El­mei- Gyarmathy and Field Super­visor Leslie Dus and his wife. Much credit is due Director Ko­lozsvary, Field Supervisor Dus and Branch President Somogyi for the tuccess of the affair. After this he attended night courses concerning industrial management. In Detroit he completed courses! at the Graduate School where war­­industries were emphasized. At the beginning of World War II Mr. Andreko worked as an electrician | and also in a steel mill which pro- Í duced steel for a U.S. Ordnance Factory which made anti-aircraft. From here he went to an automobile factory followed by employment with the Sinclair Refining Company. At the present Mr. Andreko is a resident of Bloomington. He migrated to America at the age of ten. Ho received his education in this country' and is a typical example of how talent and perseverance can win in spite of odds. He also introduced Eugene Vincze, ; an old Verhovay member, whose. I family has fifteen members in Branch 45. Also introduced were Mrs. Macker, wife of .National Vice-President Macker; Field Supervisor Leslie Dus, District Manager Coloman Bertalan and their wives. Others introduced included ‘'Sza­badság” representatives Joseph Muzs­­iay and Julia Kemeny; and Ignatius Fancsaly. Vice-President Dr. Kovács thanked ihe following- ladies responsible for the excellent preparation and flaw­less serving of the delicious meal: Mrs. John Marton, Mrs. Joseph Brassai, Mrs. Joseph Vincze, Mrs. Emery Houba, Mrs. Joseph Drotos, Mi-s. Coloman Bertalan, Mrs. Joseph Bako, Mrs. L. Balogh, Mrs. Blase Toth, JMrs. Emery Keszel. Men who served on the refresh­ment committee were also thanked. Singers on the program included Mrs. Zoltán Molnár, and baritone Stephen Wegling. Youthful Joe Gyula and nine-year old Joan Katii gave pleasing performances. We lare proud to say that his is a 100% Verhovay family, the aim of every Verhovay branch manager who cares not to see any Verhovay house ‘"di­vided against itself.” The young service man was bom' '.in Sopron, Hungary, left his home in 1946 to settle in Gross-Hessen, Germany. Schummel arrived in America in 1952. He became a Ver­hovay member shortly thereafter. At present Pvt. Schummel is in paratrooper training in Kentucky. Br.
