PAGE 8 Verhovay Journal January 21. 1953 THE NEW YEAR REMINDS US THAT TOURNAMENT TIME IS NEARING (Continued from Page 1) § additional business. Of course there will be space for patrons’ names. The new album will be 9 by *6 and the following price scale will be in effect: manager Louis Gall, has organized several bowling teams to vie for top prizes at the Toledo tournament. * Although it is true that Branch 525, Los Angeles, Calif, took part in last year’s event, it is well worth mentioning that1 the manager of Branch 525, Director Alexander Gyulay, has informed us that, barring the unforeseen, Branch 525’s bowling gallants will again trek more than half way across the nation! to beast and boost their sun-drenched state. It entails a great deal of sacrifice for the bowlers of this very distant branch to take part in the NATIONAL VERHOVAY FELLOWSHIP DAYS. More and new interest is in evidence that the 1953 Verhovay bowling event will be highly satisfactory and successful. We expect it to equal, if not surpass, the 1952 Columbus spectaclo — and those of you who were there know that’s saying a lot. But Toledo knew it could — and would -r- prove itself when' it accepted the tournament of ‘53. The next tournament city is very ideal from almost any point of view. Toledo’s location is very advantageous for every mode of transportation, and Verhovay members from near and far will find it quite easy to get to that prominent Ohio city, whether they go by motor car, bus, rail or air. And Toledo’s proximity to Detroit — about 57 miles — is an additional attraction to those who would like to extend their stay by making a side trip to America’s Motor City. The 1953 tournament site can be made not only the gala Verhovay event that it will be but the point for personal vacations. Chief appeal to the teams will be the ultra modern Hagerty bowling alleys, 42 in all, on one floor in a new air conditioned building, and the spaciousness of the structure will surprise our players and spectators. This salient fact will be appreciated by all. Headquarters will be the Commodore Perry Hotel, peerless as Toledo’s finest hotel. The management has promised to spare no effort to make its special guests of May 30-31, the Verhovay bowlers, members and friends, happy and contented and enjoying every convenience at their headquarters. On the social side of the picture will be the Night in Budapest dance to be held Saturday evening May 30 and the Victory Banquet Sunday night May 31. Both occasions will be great ones, and they, together with the tournament itself and the close of the SZALANCZY-SZABO NEW MEMBERSHIP CAMPAIGN, will bear the beautiful and inspiring title, NATIONAL VERHOVAY FELLOWSHIP DAYS. All in all, May 30 31, will be great days in the Verhovay calendar, and you are ALL advised to attend for your own happiness and enjoyment We feel sure that those who attended last year’s superlative event will repeat this year, unless grave reasons prevent them from so doing, for they are acquainted with the success of Verhovay’s big annual event. In closing this article, it may be mentioned that the tournament album this year will be larger and better. Naturally the tournament city’s Branch 27, its officers and its members, will shoulder the most responsibility for gathering together material and advertisements for the album. Business firms of the Toledo- Detroit area especially will find it worth their while to advertise in our tournament album. The amount they pay for their advertising shall not be “lost money.” It will return in new andj One page .....................,.... $30.00 One-half page ............ $15.00 One-quarter page .............S 7.50 Patron space ................. $ 2.00 In order to enhance the attractiveness of the 1953 tournament album, there will be no one-eighth page ads. Advertisers are urged to take advantage of the above offer. There is nothing to lose but much to gain.---------T----------------------------------III POWER SPRINGDALE, CITY NEWS PA. Arrangements were made ! to have movies, but at the last minute a snag was hit. The films were on hand but the projectionist failed to appear. So my apologies to the disappointed children — and adults. The kiddies still received their gift bags from Santa Claus. Thanks to Bill Wanamaker for playing the role.
