BRANCH 164 — CHICAGO, ILL. — ' SENTINEL j By: ANDREW JANOVICS, Manager I _____________________________________________. _____„ At our October meeting the following was discussed and voted u^on, and I have been asked to tell you about the plan. As you undoubtedly know, it has been our custom in the past years That when a member of ours is called to his or her eternal rest we send a bouquet of flowers, and when needed, supply pallbearers. But, as everything else, flowers have gone way up in price and frankly, while members would be pall bearers, losing a day’s pay is not to the liking of anyone today, what with the cost of living sky high. While it is true we have reimbursed the one or two pallbearers with a small sum, it still can not compensate for a day’s wages. The reason for this discussion is that our treasury is being slowly depleted and we find that we have to discontinue the above custom. However, at the meeting, it was discussed that this would be put on a purely voluntary basis. If a member wishes to have the benefit of flowers, etc., in ca«e of member’s death, then the member would donate each month to a special fund which would be used for this purpose. The amount hasn’t been decided on as yet. It may be a dime a month, it may be slightly more. It has been decided that a letter be senti to each member telling of this plan. Also, enclosed, will be a postal card on which you will be asked to mark yes or no, yes if you wish to participate in the plan and no if you do not. Those who do will pay the amount due with their regular1 monthly dues. Those who do not wish same will just mark no and it will be understood they do not wish to participate in this particular plan. Belated birthday greetings to Júliáim Margita and Dorothy King who celebrated their 16th birthday recently. Members Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Suto were in an automobile accident and suffered injuries. Margaret Stubitz also was in an auto accident. I believe, at this writing, they are much better. Member Julius Valko was injured at work and had to be hospitalized. Also sick is Joseph tfiss. I hope they all are greatly improved. As many of you know, I submitted my resignation months ago, and starting, I believe, January 1st, we shall have a new full time branch manager. I ask each of you to please cooperate with him and help to make his task as easy and pleasant as possible so that he will want to stay with us and help our Association progress. We sincerely hope Mr. Janovics will continue his worth-while contributions. — Ed.). IMPORTANT: At our December meeting, to which all the members are asked to come, a vote is to be taken regarding the combining of the three north side branches, namely 164, 342 and 503, to be ONE branch. We believe this would benefit us not only socially but materially as well, as then all three branches would pull together towards one goal. And DO REMEMBER that the December meeting is also the night for election of officers. Each and every member should attend this meeting to cast his or her voteas he or she sees fit. We Wish you all a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous New Year. ...•»v-sss
