1952 / Verhovay Journal
PAGE 6 Verhov ayJournal June 18, 1952 NINTH ANNUAL NATIONAL BOWLING TOURNAMENT (Continued from Page 5) made personal delivery. Both Mr. and Mrs. Sabo are long time members of Brahch 96, Chicago, and both have been branch officers, and Mrs. Sabo formerly' contributed articles to the Verhovay Journal when she was publicity agent of Branch 96. Though no one was' present to represent Scioto Sales, Inc., special mention was made of the fact that this company in Columbus, distributor of Crosley products, donated thet two beautiful clockradios, a green and a white, which were among the bowling prizes. We thank Scioto Sales, Inc. for its generosity. Finally, the beautiful QUEEN and her lovely ATTENDANTS were introduced. After these many introductions,, which did not take so long to maka as the readers may surmise announcement was made to the new members of Branch 129, Columbm, to come to the main table after the ceremonies for them corsages and buttons. The next ceremony was the presentation of the trophies and the cash awards. Vice-President and Chairman of the National Executive Tournament! Committee, Dr. Andrew J. Kovács, presented the Frank Brogley Memorial Trophy; Director Richard J. Phillips, of the same Committee, next presented the Albert B. Ari Memorial Trophy; and Director Gay B. Banes, also a member of the Committee. and Mr. Phillips presented all the other trophies. Congratulations were extended with each presentation. The cash awards Were read by Tournament Secretary ‘Pop” Diliinger. Mr. Diliinger and his staff of assistants, "Pop” Diliinger, Jr., Tom Dickinson, Stanley Skreski, Harry Bielby, Walter Gabriel, Phillip Masley and John Brannan, it is only fair to mention here, did a very capable job of handling the scores, and conducting the tournament. Of all the ceremonies, probably the most touching was the presentation by Vice-President Dr. Andrew J. Kovács of two handsome wrist watches tc National President John Bencze and to National Secretary Coloman Revesz. The lonely gifts were given to the two officers for their long and steadfast service to Verhovay. The pleasing results of the Bencze-Revesz Anniversary New Membership Campaign were the most concrete tribute of affection and esteem we could pay these two veteran officers. Mr. Bencze and Mr. Revesz were choked with emotion as they accepted the beautiful timepieces, and their expressed gratitude was not perfunctory but deep from the heart. With the conclusion of all the formalities, the floor was cleared for dancing to the lilting melodies of the incomparable Ziggy Bela musicians. The danc'ng went on for hours and the Verhovay atmosphere was brimming with gayety, laughter and GENUINE VERHOVAY BROTHERHOOD. Lewis F. Wagner, popular Dayton Hungarian radio announcer and singer, added to the charm with his delightful vocals. During the dancing, the National Officers, the Directors and the Members of the Auditing Committee, who all came in an official capacity, shed thriv chores and scattered among the merry makers. Director Falussy was noted in the company of former director Joseph Taylor; Directors Gross, Lang and Louis Vizi were observed tripping the light fantastic frequently., Chairman of the Auditing Committee Papp was seen conversing with friends, as was Auditing Committee Secretary Kohut, while Andrew Bandy, the third member of the Committee, moved about in the company of his wife, son and daughter-in-law. Others observed were former district manager Michael Simo, now Manager of Branch 189, and Mrs. Simo. Earlier in the evening the Assistant! District Manager of Akron, Ohio, handsome Steve Mezo, Jr., and his equally attractive wife, were seen mingling with the crowd. But even after the dance the fun continued. To top it all, a group of very happy Verhovays got Ziggy Bela’s orchestra to play for them in at suite on the sixteenth floor-just a few doors away from Tournament Administrator Sabo’s suite. The “extra curricular” singing and dancing went on until about five' in the morning. Thus ends our report on the Verhovay Ninth Annual National Bowling Tournament and the National Verhovay Fellowship Days. We sincerely hope that this account is vicariously satisfying to you members who did not, ,attend. Next year, better than reading the story, live it by attending the howling tournament and its festivities! HAVING A SWELL TIME SIGMOND KADAR .member of Branch 14 Cleveland, Ohio and Mrs. T. A. Guess it’s about time I drifted back into the journal. Gone are the old writers, memories of yesteryear. Oh how I wish they were back. Also some of those good old columnists. Let us have move writers, new or old. The Journal is published for us and our use, so let’s use it before we lose it. Pvt. Ted Korintus was home on a twenty day convalescent leave. Nice to have had him home, but let’s hope that the next time he gets home his foot will be better so that he can enjoy his dancing. On the second of June Branch 376 matched Branch 34 in horseshoe pitching. I am proud to say we won five games out of six. We hope to meet again. Attention, members of branch 376: Anyone that has any ideas or news' interest, please forward, also if any of you are interested in a get—together. Let us liven up our branch; let us be known also. Drop me a post card or letter today. I ll do my best to get things rolling. Until next month when I hope to have more news. JOHN J. KORINTUS 2838 ARDSLEY AVE. PITTSBURGH 26, PA. DR.
