Fraternally, Mrs. LOUIS TOSHA, Sr. President Mrs. STEVE KOROSY Secretary * ¥ * ROSSFORD, OHIO Branch 194 HEART TO HEART Our members are responding graciously to the recent appeal made to this branch for financial aid for a very needy case. The contributions may be sent in with the monthly dues and need not be made separately. Generosity is a wonderful gesture. It leaves the giver with a deep inner satisfaction of having done great good. Our more fortunate members will lever be ready to share kindness with worthiness. In April, this year, Branch 194 is 40 years old. Many members have grown old with the branch, some have passed on, and new members join Branch 194. We of this branch should like to commemorate its 40th anniversary by getting 40 new members. This may be accomplished easily if the grandparents, who love to indulge their grandchildren, would do so by purchasing for them 40 new Verhovay certificates. How well thought of would be these wise grandparents in later years! Fraternally, JOHN MOKRI, Manager * ¥ * OMAHA, NEBR. Columbus, Ohio, here we come . . . from Cleveland’s east1 side ... nipe teams ... haven’t heard from the west side. Don’t forget Branch 14’s 50 year anniversary Sunday, May 25th, at ■the Verhovay Hall, 8637 Buckeye Road. If you are planning to come to this anniversary banquet, send for your reservation care of Leslie J. Dus, secretary and manager of Branch 14 at the above address. The managers dinner was an excellent affair. I think there should be one every three months. Mr. and Mrs. NicholasYuhas were the guests of honor. Prominent Verhovayans who attended were Dr. Andrew Kovács, vice-president, Kalman Kolozsvary, director, Joseph Szalay, former president and former director, James Kovatch, president of Brands 14, Bela Bertalan, Mrs. Kolozsvary, Sigismund Kadar, Frank Pinter, Leslie J. Dus and his wife, Alex J. Horvath and his wife, and many others . .. George Bubonic and his accordion supplied the music. Nice crowd, delicious meal, wunderful oratory and mellow refreshment — with alii this contentment. We heard that a certain Verhovay politician, recently unhitched, is ready for another double harness job... Some people like a lot of punishment. Elsie (Kolozsvary) Fodor gave birth to another boy, Alfred Arthur. Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Fodor. Terry (Moses) Kovács, expects to be a mother about August of this year. Yep, little birds have been whisperin’. Bela Bertalan is making his annual trek to Hot Springs, Arkansas the latter part ,01' April. Again let us remind our Verhovay members who may vote, particularly Cuyahoga County voters, that Tuesday, May 6th, is election day in Ohio, and that Yours Truly, Joseph J. Horvath, is running for state representative on the Democratic ticket. Also, the son of Joseph Kruparsky, Verhovay member, Glen Kruparsky Marshall. And Verhovay members over all Ohio, don’t forget our illustrious son, Frank Lausche, Governor of Ohio, who is seeking the nomination again. A gathering- of friends resulted in a club at the Verhovay Home called J. J. Horvath for State Representative Club. A card party in his honor is planned for Saturday, May 3d, at the Verhovay hall, 8637 Buckeye Road. Officers elected were Joseph Szalay, chairman, Joseph Barry, Vice- Chairman, Joseph Hegedűs, Secretary, Joseph Nagy, Treasurer, Frank Oravis, Entertainment Chairman, Oscar Federau, Sargent at Arms. Executive Committee members will be Mrs. Mary Matasy, Mrs. Marge Luscik, Bert Luscik, Cal Kamya, Mary Kamya, Mrs. Helen Oravis, Miss Helen Horvath, Miss Irene Horvath, Mr. John Horvath, A1 Boros, Mrs. Joseph Bodnar, Henry Krautz. Tickets will be 50<*••. door prizes. All friends and Verhovay members ,who are interested in coming to this card party contact Joseph Szalay at his barber shop at 9114 Buckeye Road. President Joseph Semetko of the Verhovay Sports Club held his first meeting Sunday, March 16th. He handled things like a veteran. He appointed Frank Oravis chairman of the Entertainment Committee and John Knapp and Piscalko as vicechairmen. The new Membership Committee will be handled by Carl Pertz, Tony Pinter and George Bubonic. The new auditors appointed were Terry Gutka and Florence Marson. Reappointed to the Sunshine Committee were Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Pinter. The club’s own handicap tournament will be held Sunday, April 27th... for members of the Sports Club. Steve (“Susie”) Piscalko will handle all details of the tournament. He will try to have two trophies donated. We will bowl four games across four alleys... •total pins plus handicap ... will decide who is champion. A party of the bowling match will be held. This, and more too, at our club’s expense. Not very often one gets anything free, but here it is. We are hoping that we receive something in Columbus, Ohio to remind us in after years that this was thecity that held the 9th annual tournament ... even if we have to pay for it. New members admitted to the Verhovay Sports Club at its last meeting were: Mrs. Adeline Bubonic, Niholas Yuhas, manager of the home, and his son Nick, Jr. Congratulations and welcome! In the last issue of the Journal the name of our treasurer, Ann Pinter, was left out. It was an oversight that we must remedy, because she is the best treasurer out Sports Club has. We hope she forgives us. We close with this thought by Helen Keller, "Keep your face to tber sunshine, and you can not see thei shadow.” Ex Animo, JOSEPH J.
