VOL. XXXV, FEBRUARY 20, 1952 »> mmmmmsw« wjwmjmmmi mmmmm PROCLAMATION Whereas, the Verhovay Fraternal Insurance Association is truly a fraternal insurance brotherhood in deed as well as in name; Whereas, this society sponsors every wholesome activity designed to arouse and satisfy the social desires and needs of its members; Whereas, it is wholly cognizant of the fact that such social activity promotes and furthers the spirit of cooperation and accomplishment among the members and the branches; Whereas, all this brings admiration, honor and credit to the individual members, branches and the association as a whole; Whereas, the years have eminently proved the Annual Verhovay National Bowling Tournaments to be a major factor in the social life of our society, and as a natural consequence this has created an appreciable interest on the part of all members of the association; Whereas, the aforementioned truths warrant without question the continuance and broadening of the annual Verhovay fraternal program, and to permit participation for all Verhovay members. even non-bowlers; Be it resolved, that L John Bencze, National President of the Verhovay Fraternal Insurance Association, do proclaim May 30-31, 1952, NATIONAL VERHOVAY FELLOWSHIP DAYS, and I cordially invite every member, branch officer and other officers to be present in Columbus, Ohio at1 this greatest of Verhovay events, and I entreat1 every branch and Verhovay group to send participating delegations to this grand Verhovay festival, and finally I ask the entire membership to observe these two days as national holidays in the Verhovay calendar. DONE THIS DAY, January 23, 1952 A. D.. at the Office of the National President of the Verhovay Fraternal Insurance Association, in witness whereof I hereunto set my signature and cause the Seal of the Verhovay Fraternal Insurance Association. (S) John Bencze National President Q wmm, mmwewmmwmwwwwm Quotes from Abraham Lincoln COME TO COLUMBUS, OHIO The 1952 Tournament i; You can’t escape the responsibility of tomorrow by evading it today. * When I’m getting ready to reason with a man, I spend one-third of my time thinking about, myself and what I am going to say—and two-thirds thinking about him and what he is going to say. * Most people are about as happy as they make up their minds to be. * It is difficult to make a man miserable while he feels he is worthy of himself and claims kindred to the great God who made him. * Let the people know the truth and the country is safe. * I like to see a man proud of the place in which he lives; I like to see a man live so that Tys place will be proud of him. * As I would not be a slave, so I would not be a master. This expresses my idea of democracy. Whatever differs from this, to the extent of the difference, is no democracy. Although it is still months away, the big bowling tournament to be held on May 30-31, 1952, at Columbus, Ohio is now the lively topic of conversation in Verhovay circles. The keen interest already aroused in the coming event makes it quite safe to predict that the Tenth Annual National Ten Pin Tournament will unfailingly enjoy the greatest success of all the contests held to date. Beginning at the Home Office and leading thru a chain of committees, groups, teams, etc., there is such a firm determination to assure the satisfactory conclusion of the tournament that it is wholly evident the Columbus sports spectacle is going to wind up the most outstanding display of social brotherhood ever before seen at a Verhovay affair. Not only are the branch bowling teams preparing for this great American sport but branches without teams are discussing the tournament with the view in mind of going to Columbus in branch groups. Individual members too are planning to attend because they well know the 1952 Columbus bowling event will be a real occasion for a most pleasant time, and it will give them opportunity to join old cronies and make new friends. There are many sound reasons why the Verhovay membership should strive to make the 1952 bowling tournament the biggest and best sports match Verhovay has ever had, and the reasons here follow7: As stated in the first two paragraphs the Tenth Annual National Ten Pin Tournament will undoubtedly be the most spectacular in Verhovay’s sport program. The numerous requests for entry applications already in and increasingly coming in lend assurance of the success to come. There may be more and bigger teams this year because enthusiasm and interest are running high. Experience has eliminated the kinks thus guaranteeing smoother competition among the contestants who will vie with one another in the spirit of true sportsmanship. It will be NATIONAL VERHOVAY FELLOWSHIP City Is Beckoning You DAYS. This beautiful designation has been proclaimed by our beloved National President John Bencze as the SPECIAL name of the 1952 National Ten Pin Tournament. This appellation means simply that the greatest good to emerge from the tournament will be the spiritual — the brotherhood, the fellowship, the oneness of hearts and minds so important, so very necessary to the practice of true fraternalism. And when the contestants, participants and spectators return to their respective homes they will in their joyous enthusiasm reveal to their fellow7 Verhovay members who did not attend that the Columbus event was truly an epic, ray, the zenith of VERHOVAY FRATERNALISM IN PRACTICE. The great Columbus gathering of Verhovayans from here, there and everywhere will be not unlike a gigantic family reunion. It is but natural that a mammoth Verhovay event like the coming one must excite curiosity on the outside and stir the interest of onlooking nonmembers. Not only that our own members are held together, especially the younger element w7ho need new interests and attractions continually to maintain their Verhovay interest and loyalty. This kind of social activity stimulates Verhovay consciousness in the greatest H u ngarian organization in the country, prevents membership vegetation as it were. Certainly it opens the opportunity for securing new members, because it follows that when those outside the Verhovay fold know of such an impressive display of fraternalism they quite naturally experience a desire to enter the ranks of our membership. They are then receptive to Verhovay. Every field supervisor, district manager and branch manager has been alerted at this psychological time to sign up into the association these potential members. The good will created by the 1952 Bowling Tournament signals the golden opportunity for new members within the grasp of the Fulltime field men and the branch managers. The new membership response CAN BE TREMENDOUS! (Continued on page 2)
