September 19, 1951 Verhovay Journal PAGE 11 BRANCH 164 — CHICAGO, ILL. — SENTINEL By: ANDREW JANOVICS, Manager Greeting's, Fellew Members! These are belated greetings from your no longer so new branchmanager, but originally part of my first news column was intended for the August issue in which it would have appeared if Minutes of the District Meetings and similar pre-convention materials had not prevented its printing. While August, my first month as Manager of Branch 164, has been a long hectic month, it also has been most enjoyable, what with meeting so many of my fellow-members, some of whom I haven’t seen for years. Imagine ringing the bell of a person whose name is unfamiliar and when the door opens seeing a familiar face POWER CITY NEWS (Continued from page 10) ber of the Board of Trustees, by being of great assistance at our annual picnics, and whenever he was called i\pon to do a job, one could rest with assurance that it would be done. Perhaps he could best be remembered for his role as Santa Claus at our annual Christmas Parties, an event which he had looked forward to each year. He was well known throughout the' community for his interest and activity in community affairs. He was closely attached to the Springdale Volunteer Fire Department, having been instrumental in the erection of the new Fire Hall. He was also associated with the Springdale-New Kensington District Sportsmen. His passing is not only a loss to the branch but to the community as well. In loving memory of our dear friend, William Wanamaker, Sr.: He bade none a last farewell. He said goodbye to none, The heavenly gates had opened, A lovely voice said, “Come!” And with farewell unspoken, He gently entered home. Our dear friend sleeps in silence, Wed not disturb his rest; Sad and lonely are the hearts of those Who loved him best. (Author Unknown) The members of Branch 296 extend their deepest sympathies to the family of William Wanamaker. ATTENTION BOWLERS With Summer drawing to a close, it’s fine to start planning for thei coming bowling season. The regular bowlers will be notified of any definite plans. How about taking a women’s team to the tournament next year? The opportunity and finances, through the Sport Fund, is given to you. All it takes is a little initiative for someone to organize a team and the branch will take care of the details. Anyone desiring definite information should contact any of the branch officers. I can assure you that once a team takes part in a tournament, they will want to go each year. The team is open to all, whether married or single. So, how about is girls? STEWARD’S SON MARRIED Miss Hazel Mason, niece of Mrs. Maude Olschefsky, of Tarentum, and Frank Fintor, of Springdale, were married Thursday evening, July 26th, in the parsonage of Ihe Trinity Reformed Ofturch of New Kensington. Frank is the son of Mr. and Mrs. and getting a greeting, “Why, hello Andy!” and my reply, “Why it’s you!” and “So, that’s your married name!” or else “Why I've known you for years as John or Joe or Mary but never knew your last name!” Well, I’m learning them now and very glad to do so. I had a letter from one of our members who now resides in San Diego, Calif. I wrote her on business, a Mrs. Kennteth Long. Well, upon opening her reply I received a greeting: “Hello Andy, remembr me?” Shei turned out to be none other than the former Margaret Kutska Stangret. Many of you, I am sure, will remember her as our columnist in the Verhovay Journal quite a few years ago. Joseph Fintor, Steward at the Verhovay Home. The Rev. R. MEETINGS Members are informed that starting with this month, the regular branch meetings will, again be held on EVERY SECOND SUNDAY of each month at 4 p.m., at the Verhovay Home, 220 Colfax St., Springdale. All members are urged tc attend these meetings. She was the author of the “Verhovay Sportsmen of Chicago, Branch 164,” column that was so very interesting and entertaining to read each month. It was really a loss when she left our City and her job as our reporter.’ But, Marge, I am sure our members will be glad to know that we have not lost contact with you. As this appears in print, our bowling league starts a new season. Many thanks to all of you who have called me saying you wished to howl with us. I am sure we’ll have a very successful and pleasant season. Mr. Louis Barna, our Secretary- Treasurer, and his dear wife, have returned at the end of July from a nice leisurely trip out West. They covered over 7,000 miles of our western states and had had a very nice trip. Ernest Taylor, our Vice-President, and his family also have returned from their vacation and, Ernie, rested up and refreshed, tackled his new job j as our Vice-President with vim and vigor. I am sure he will do all in his power to make every one of our coming affairs a huge success! Ssssh! — A whisper has been heard that John and Peggy Fodor are expecting' a visit at their house of a tall two-legged bird, with a bundle of euddlesome charm. More about this — if and when ... One of our members is most anxious to locate a lost relative or any of her kin. She is Mrs. Petrick, nee Sophie Aracsi, and she is trying to locate Joseph Mokar of Somogy, Gyékényéi-, Hungary, or any of his descendants. She asks please that if anyone reading this should know of their whereabouts to kindly write me and I will forward all messages to her. Our dear old friends and members, the Louis Moh, arts have left opr midst for the climate of Michigan. We hope, Louis and Mary, to have you back with us once again and. soon. We in our family had a little misfortune some time ago. My son who not long ago was dancing the ‘Körmagyar’ with our Verhovay Branch 164 Dancing Group and who on the 4th of ‘July at the picnic was going to town doing the ‘Jitterbug,’ has been in the hospital, with burns on his face and arms. When we got him back, we were quite happy to start our vacation.... And after returning from my vacation, melting in this tremendous heat, I wondered why, oh why it did have to rain continually every day and now that I am back on the job it is so warm that perspiration just insists* crawling down my back. Well, such is life. But then — I did have the pleasure of catching a couple of really good sized fish even if it did rain. NOTICE! NOTICE! DEAR MEMBERS NOTICE!
