ONCE AGAIN we shed a nostalgic tear and bid farewell to the good ole summertime. While we’re reminiscing about nostalgic memories, we might as well shed a giant crocodile drop for the days when our Br. 21 No. 2 Team used to be a ferocious contender for top honors in the bowling league. But again this may be the- year we will ascend from the spot where they store the coal and rise up to share some of the first division limelight. TOTAL GAINS — Although we regret the loss of Bill Lukach, whom his firm has transferred to another city, our No. 2 Team has bolstered its ranks with the addition of Steve (Hotshot) Matasy the fraternal’s legal counsel. Other newcomers added to the teams are Joe Walters, Elmer Pitlak, Frank Farnic and Bob Conci. Conci recently won the Youngstown High School Amateur Tennis Crown. He then went ahead and almost won the State Championship only to be nosed out at the finals in a close set. While speaking about achievements we must also mention that a oncein-a-lifetime feat was performed by our Sports Club treasurer Stan Ruz. Last August Stan shot a hole-in-one on the third hole at Mill Creek Golf Course. Congratulations are in order. Stan in his amiable way will scale to meteoric heights in the world of sports. I once got a nine-on-one hole and I didn’t even receive an old '‘Dewey for President” button for it. PICNIC — The Branch held its Annual Picnic last month at the Whipporwill Grove. We were honored by the presence of a large delegation of Verhovayans from Cleveland headed by Henry Rettmann. Ilona Majoros entertained the gathering with her amiable singing of an array of Hungarian folk tunes. The St. Stephen’s dance group performed a few spectacular Hungarian dances. Those youngsters in their brilliant and lavish native Hungarian costumes, displaying their well coordinated dancing talents are indeed f sight to behold. Ruthie Burnett, the leader of the group, presented a solo dance entitled “The Flirtation Dance.” (Some dance W-o-o-o!). This pretty lass with her nimble dancingfeet is really all reet! She gives you phat bewitched, bothered and bewildered feeling. The dance group, through thenpublicity and business director George Gregosits, have performed at various Jarge gatherings, such as the Annual Mahoning County Fair and other such social functions. An interesting note ■about the group is their costumes which are beautiful works of art: Many painstaking hours of needle work have been put into these garment creations. The jewel-studded costumes are valued at an unestimated thousands of dollars. TRAVELOUGE — Did you experience the feeling while driving through a sleepy little town that you would just like to shout at the top of your voice to awaken the people out of their droll existences? Well we tried, that is cousin Johnny Mislay and I. Last month while motoring to Washington, D. C., we stopped in Gettysburg, the place where the rebels and the D..... Yankees Were trying like mad to bump each other off. Some demoniacal pressure inside of me caused me to yell “call the guards and man the gates.” But my shouting was to no avail for not a soul stirred. We quietly left with the feeling that rural America was asleep. Oh yes, at the time I made my dramatic (Continued on page 11) TOWNCRIER CLEVELAND, OHIO BRANCH 45 PAY TRIBUTE TO HENRY RETTMANN i Civic and fraternal leaders, as well {as his many friends, paid tribute to Henry Rettmann on September 24 at the Verhovay Home at 8637 Buckeye Road. Mr. Rettmann’s elevation' to the office of Field Manager brought joy to the many friends he has acquired while serving in the capacity of Supervisor in the Cleveland area. To bid him farewell and Godspeed in his new venture, a banquet was arranged in his honor as a small token of the appreciation bis many friends desired to show him. The menu for (the evening was chicken with all the trimmings, after which the affair was well rounded out with the melodious strains of an excellent Gypsy Orchestra. Among the prominent personages present were: Mr. Joseph Drotos, President of Branch 45, and his charming wife; Dr. Andrew Kovács, popular Vice-President of Verhovay and a member of its Board of Directors; Mr. Tony Pinter, President of Branch 366; and, among the many gracious ladies present, we found Mrs. Imre Pálinkás of Branch 54, Mrs. Emery Gall of Branch 361, Mrs. Coleman Kolozsvary, wife of our National Director, and, of course, my beautiful wife, Ann Sarkozy. Floral decorations were contributed by Mrs. Andrew Kovács, wife of our Vice President. We are sure that Henry Rettmann will do more than well in his new capacity and that the loss of his presence in Cleveland will be a gain to the organization as a whole. * * * Mr. and Mrs. Martin Dushney of 1979 W. 48 St. have finally hit the jackpot when Mrs. Dushney ushered little Dennis into the world on September 19. This was no ordinary happening as far as the Dushneys are concerned since up until the time that Denny entered our society, weighing 8 lbs. and 3 ozs., they were the proud parents of two beautiful girls and had been keeping their (fingers crossed to welcome a “man.” * * * Brother Joseph Brassai had been (Continued on page 11)
