PAGE 12 VerhovayJournal June 21, 1950 Successful Dinner Marks Observance Of Branch 13 Anniversary In Trenton 45 years of fraternal service reviewed at banquet in TrentonSHungarian Hall A capacity crowd attended cere­monies marking the observance of the 45th anniversary of the organiza­tion of Branch 13, in Trenton, N. J., on Sunday, April 30th, at the Tren­ton Hungarian Hall. Branch-Presi­dent , Frank Radvanyi welcomed the assembled guests, Betty Demko sang the National Anthem and the Rev. ■Father Julius A. Kiss offered grace after which an excellent dinner was served. Following the dinner, Br. Pres. Mr. Radvanyi introduced Atty. William Reich who acted as master of cere­monies. Nicholas Pentek, recording secretary, presented- the brief history of the branch which was heard with great interest. City-Commissioner Andrew J. Duch gave an inspiring address in Hungarian and, then, the Rev. Father Julius A. Kish extended his greetings to the celebrating branch. National President John Bencze de­li vered the key-note address, paying tribute to the builders of the Associa­tion, both living and dead, whose de­votion and untiring efforts had made possible the advancement of the Ver­hovay. The Rev. pastor Zoltán Beky gave an inspirational address that evoked prolonged applause. Field Supervisor Frank J. Cher, F.I.C., introduced the out-of-town guests. Hon. Joseph Szabó, judge of the New Brunswick pulice court, followed with a Hun­garian address. Joseph Kondor, M.D., John Fedor, M.D., representatives of branches 48, New York, 70, Newark,-and other organizations expressed congratula­tory sentiments. Nicholas Gerenday and Eugene Szamosszegi spoke for (the two Hungarian weeklies in Tren­ton. Vice-President Alexander Virok concluded the program with expres­sions of appreciation to all who at­tended and worked for the success of the affair. VISITS IN TRENTON National President Mr. John Ben­cze used this occasion to visit Mrs. Albert B. Ari. invitng her on behalf of the National Executive Bowling Tournament Committee to the Youngstown Tournament to present the Albert B. Ari Memorial cham­pionship trophy to the winning team in the Womep’s Division. Mrs. Ari graciously accepted the invitaton and promised to attend the Tournament. Mr. Bencze also visited Charles Pentek, Vice-President of Branch 13, one of the oldest members of the Association, who was deeply grateful to the President having called on him, at his sick-bed. ACKNOWLEDGMENTS On behalf of Branch 13, Frank Radvanyi, President, wishes to take this opportunity to thank all those who made some contribution to the success of the anniversary celebra­tions; especially to Miss Betty Dem­ko who sang the National Anthem, accompanying herself on the piano, to Joseph Varga who donated the meat for the banquet, to Joseph Chorba, who contributed $5 toward the expenses of the affair, to florists Simicsak and Berthothy who donated floral decorations. Further­more to Mrs. Frank Radvany, Mrs. Alexander Virok, Mrs. Leslie Dobos, Mrs. Paul Toth, Mrs. Joseph Demko, Mrs. Stephen Baltovics, Mrs. Stephen Vágott, Mrs. Agocs, Mrs. Mraz and Mrs. Bodnar who donated the pas­tries. Sincere thanks are extended, finally, to the organizations, churches and societies represented at the ban­quet and to' all those who appeared on the program. GIRLS SHOW HOW STRIKES ARE MADE Nice girls, pretty girls, in other words Verhovay girls are shown here in action at Champion Recreation in Youngstown. Taken during the team event in the Women’s Division the picture shows four girls in as many phases of delivering the ball. The 21 women’s teams attending the tournament lent a lot of color and fun to this great event. Good sports all, win or lose, they were a pleasure to watch bowling. VERHOVAY MEN COMPETING FOR FRANK BROGLEY TROPHY A peaceful moment at Champion Recreation in Youngstown, O., during the 7th Annual Verhovay Tournament. There were other moments when the thunder of the rolling balls was submerged under the cheering of the on­lookers. The lanes were in perfect shape and so were the men competing for the national championship. Conneaut Verhovayan Wins Case Scholarship Members of Branch 220, Conneaut, O., are mighty proud of Richard Me­­gyesi, a life-long member of the Ver­hovay, who was the valedictorian at commencement exercises at Conneaut Senior High School a few weeks ago. Richard received a full scholar­ship to Case Institute in Cleveland, on the basis of a 3.8 scholastic ave­rage, out of a possible 4, and grad­uated with “special honors.” “Valedictorian Megyesi,” the local papers write,” also was a leader in class government and an outstanding­­athlete. He was president of his class during the junior year and a mem­ber of the Student Council also as a junior. Last summer he participated in Buckeye Boy’s State where out­standing high school students estab­lished and ran a mock state govern­ment for one week. As a junior he was chairman of the Junior-Senior Prom Committee and this year par­ticipated in preparation for Senior Class Day.” “He won letters in track during his junior and senior years, this year becoming one of the outstanding­­track men in the Lake Shore League. He was a regular during his senior Stephen Udvari, Cairnbrook, Wins New York Art Contest Mrs. Louis Udvari, Manager of Branch 517, Cairnbrook, Pa., just re­ceived the splendid news of her son, Stephen, having won an art contest at New York’s International House. An AP wirephoto appearing in many newspapers shows Stephen Udvari be­ing congratulated by Gen. George C. Marshall, chairman of the house’s board of trustees, who presented the awards. On the picture Mr. Udvari is shown holding his prize-winning effort — an internal raised relief carving edgelight lamp. A son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Udvari, Sr., the art­ist is a graduate of Shade Township High School and the State Teachers College, Indiana. year on the basketball and football squads, also winning a basketball letter as a junior.” Congratulations to Richard Megye­si and his happy parents who are justly proud of the accomplishments of their son.
