JOHN SABO. National Auditor. Addition The best wishes of this columnist; go to each and every tournament! bowler. May your scores be large, your splits few, and your spares and strikes many.... Good Luck! SOCIAL EVENTS Branch 14 will hold a Lily of the Valley dance Sunday, May 21st, in the evening-, at Verhovay Hall. Music by Frank Gyure. Grief — 75 cents. The annual picnic of Branch 14 will be held on Sunday, June 11th. Music will be by Gyure’s and refreshments, delicious Hungarian sandwiches, etc., will be provided at the most reasonable rates. The Committee will have an excellent program prepared for this event. Leave it to Sigmund Kadar, he’ll certainly havesomething original. How about a wrestling match at the picnic? Only 50 cents will be charged and anyone who doesn’t have a good time ought to see a doctor soon.... Kalo’s farm in Bedford is the site of the picnic. It isn’t far from Cleveland and arrows will mark the way from Verhovay Hall. Joseph Szalay, President of Branch 14, and his associates cordially invite everybody to both affairs. PERSONAL NOTES We heard that Joseph Szabó will take the plunge into the sea of matrimony. Lucky guy! He couldn’t get a better gal anywhere in the world than Ella Moses. She’s tops in our book. Mrs. Joseph Barry had a successful operation, with another pending. Good Luck, Mrs. Barry, and the Lord he with you! Gossip has it that Helen Oravis already is training her daughter Virginia to baby-sit with her sister Patricia Jean.... And we note that Alex Kovach is selling chicken sand eggs from his ranch in Solon, Ohio. Sponsor’s laurels go to Steven A. Jakab: he backs more bowling teams than anybody else on Buckeye Rd. Valentine Nagy has joined the ever growing force of Verhovayans serving the State of Ohio: he works in a State Liquor Store. Mention must be' made here of the first and most important servant of this state: Governor Lausche, a member of Branch 14, who should have the support of every Verhovay member in Ohio. He is a wonderful sport, an intelligent person, and a statesman. Vice-President Dr. Andrew Kovács is going to ask this illustrious member of the Verhovay to speak at the Bowler’s Banquet in Youngstown, Ohio. Judge Louis Petrash, another notable Verhovayan, receives calls every day to help organize youth groups in churches and fraternal organizations. He says he is only too glad to do so because the future of America rests on the shoulders of our youth and it is up to the older generation to provide them with the best possible training, example and advice. And Mayor Thomas A. Burke of Cleveland, O., takes special pride in his Verhovay membership. At a recent banquet Mayor Burke welcomed the guests on -behalf of the City and the Verhovay. Joseph M. Toth is a ranger on a golf course.... one of Captain Video’s rangers perhaps? Mrs. Joseph Szalay, wife of our *íiranch President was so sick that Joseph had to call a doctor. We hope it’s nothing serious. Stephen Szabó is not only happily married, but a pappy, too. It’s a boy! Louis Balogh, President of the Verhovay Sports Club of Cleveland is an ardent Legionaire. Mrs. Zoltán Szabó and Mrs. Eugene Toth were census takers last month. And grapevine has it that August Bessenyei is going to try for a judgeship next year. He is now in the process of picking his adversary. We heard that Joseph Kadar y bought himself a new home in Gates Mill, O., a suburb of Cleveland. Last but not least, we would like to take this opportunity to welcome Mrs. Henry Rettmann who arrived with her two little boys some two weeks after her husband took over the management of Branch 14. Now that the whole family is with us, I feel safe to say: Pittsburgh’s loss is Cleveland’s gain. TOURNAMENT TALK What seems hard for us Br. 14 bowlers to understand is this: the tournaments had been assured till this year and now we read and hear that the future looks bleak? Why? Because the shares aren’t selling? I submit it isn’t the bowlers’ fault. In some areas the price may be alright, but light here in Cleveland, for instance, 50 cents is too high and the people who are used to paying a, dime, or 25 cents at the most, for a ticket of this kind, simply refuse to buy. The fact is: war-time prosperity is a thing of the past. Many people are out of work and businessmen complain that business is bad. Let me ask this question: have the tournaments helped us obtain new members? As far as I know, here in Cleveland they did. And if that’s true, I’d like to plead with the gentlemen who do the planning: please, never say again that we might abandon the Verhovay Tournament, because part of the future of the Verhovay is invested in this affair. We should have the Tournament by all/ means, even if we have to discard the banquet and all the other trimmings. As far as this tournament-is concerned, I guess this issue will list most of the teams entered. I understand at this time, that the Lukacs Funeral Home team, consisting of Sigmund Kadar, Captain, John Goda, Emery Gall, Paul Fedor and Di-Di Prokay will bowl in the tournament. And the Buckeye Window Cleaners are ready. We’ll probably have a. practice session before we leave. SPORTS CLUB EVENTS The Sports Club will have a basket picnic at the end of June, a mystery ride, a speck fry, a hay ride, a golf tournament and dance in the fall. These plans were adopted at the last meeting. We also were told by House Committee Chairman Joseph Barry, that hereafter we’ll have to pay rent for the use of the hall. Incidentally, Mrs. Ann Pinter exr pects to win the ladies single championship at Youngstown. Good Luck to Ann and the same, again, to all Verhovay bowlers attending the Youngstown event. Ex animo JOSEPH J. HORVATH, . c/o. Verhovay Hall, 8637 Buckeye Road, Cleveland 4, Ohio. Mother, teaching her son- arithmetic: “Now, take the Smith family, for instance. There’s Mummy, Daddy and Baby. How many does that make ?” Bright Son: “Two and one to carry.”
