Branch 14 MAY DANCE All members and friends of the Verhovay are cordially invited to the traditional May Dance of Branch 14, to he held on Sunday. May 21. in the Verhovay Hall, 8637 Buckeye Road. A good orchestra, all kinds of refreshments and the proverbial hospitality of Branch 14 assure every guest of a happily spent evening. PICNIC AT KALOS On Sunday, June 11th, the members of Branch 14 will attend an all-day reunion at Kalo’s farm, off Forbes Rd. Road signs will mark the directions from Boardway. Offering all the traditional picnic entertainment, plus the best in food and refreshments, seasoned with the lovely tunes produced by the best available orchestra, Branch 14-ers are sure that al! With Deep Sympathy The National Officers of the Verheway Fraternal Insurance Association extend their deepest sympathy to District Manager Joseph Toma of New York, N. Y., in the loss of his beloved mother who died on Thursday, April 6th, at the age of 66. The mother of our outstanding and eminently successful district organizer was born on March 28, 1884, in Nagykároly, Szatmar County, Hungary. We assure Brother Toma of our heartfelt sympathy in his great sorrow. Branch 37 PICNIC AT LIBERTY HALL At the last quarterly meeting of Branch 503 the bowlers decided to- give a May Dance on Saturday, May 20th, at the North-West Hall, 2403 West North Avenue, Chicago, 111. Music will be furnished by Paul Kovács and his popular orchestra. All members and friends of Branch 503 are requested to attend this dance. Y'our attendance will help send our bowlers to the Verhovay National Bowling' Tournament which will be held on May 26, 27 and 28 in Youngstown, Ohio. Your presence will give our bowlers the much needed encouragement for bringing home the championship of this tournament. We, the bowlers of Branch 503, assure you that the good Hungarian food and the excellent Hungarian and American music will be enjoyed by all. A cordial invitation is extended also to all the sister-branches and their bowlers. The more the merrier; so please come and share with us in this evening of splendid entertainment and fellowship. Branch' 76 WEEDING ANNOUNCEMENT Congratulations are in order for two of our popular members, Julie Mudry and Phillip Melnick who were united in marriage on February 25. A reception was held at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Kalman Mudry. The couple spent their honeymoon in New \?ork, after which they made their heme at 3145 N. Pennock St., in Phila. Miss Mudry will be well remembered as our corresponding secretary and publicity agent whose glowing accounts on happenings at Branch 76 had greatly enhanced the popularity of the Verhovay in Philadelphia. Mr. Melnick, better known to everyone as “Phil,” is our local news photographer whose pictures of our bowling groups and their 1949 bowling banquet appeared recently in our Journal. Branch 296 ATTENTION All members who have not turned in their Tournament Books should please return the books, with the proper remittance to the BRANCH MANAGER no later than May 15. Every member is requested to do his best to achieve a 100% goal. A supper will be held on April 29, beginning at 8:00 P.M. Excellent music will be provided for dancing after the supper. Branch 395 IN MEMORIAM Stephen Dobos, President of Branch 395, passed away on February 22nd, at the Veterans’ Hospital in Aspinwall, Pa. Death was caused by a cerebral vascular hemmorrhage due to lymphatic leukemia. Services were held on Saturday, February 25th, at St. Stephen’s Roman Catholic Church, the Rev. Father Raymond Novak officiating. Internment was at the soldiers’ plot, Versailles Cemetery in McKeesport, Pa. Stephen Dobos was horn in Halmai, Roumania, on December 13, 1920. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Dobos, and a sister, Jo Ann. On behalf of the members of * Branch 395 I convey to his parents and sister our profound sympathies jn their irrepairable loss. The late Stephen Dobos was employed as a checker al the National Tube Company in McKeesport. He was a member of the Verhovay for 11 years and President of Branch 395 for two years. He served in World War II for three years in Battery D, 777th AAA Gun Battalion. He was awarded the American Theatre of War Ribbon, 2 overseas bars, the Asiatic Pacific ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal, the. Victory Medal, and the Bronze Star. The bereaved parents and sister requested me to convey their sincerestthanks to all the good neighbours, friends and relatives who comforted them in their sorrow. Also to those who visited their son at the hospital* sent floral tributes and donated the use of their automobiles at the funeral. To the members of the American Legion who attended in uniform, to the members of Branch 395 for saying the rosary at the Funeral Chapel, and to everyone who in any way comforted them in their great loss, they express their heartfelt thanks. May he rest in peace! ANNOUNCEMENT The new President, succeeding the late Stephen Dobos, was elected at the regular monthly meeting of Branch 395. Unanimously elected was Alex Meszar, Jr., 206 Atlantic Ave.. McKeesport, Pa. The members of Branch 395 offer him their sincere congratulations and wish him luck in this position. HELEN W. GOYDAN, Mgr.
