Firmly believing in their daughter’s talent, her parents decided to make every effort and, if necessary, to make every sacrifice to provide Betty with the best possible musical education and training. It was a long and often hard struggle but they never failed to live up to the responsibility which they so willingly and generously assumed upon recognizing their daughter’s unusual talent. And Betty proved worthy of her devoted parents’ faith, from the very first music lesson she received until the day when she won her first laurels on the. legitimate stage. Forever practising, untiringly studying and cultivating the talents with which she had been so richly endowed, she made marvellous progress until, as a most accomplished pupil of Miss Elizabeth Liebling of New York City, she was contracted to sing the leading role in Blossom Time, under the direction of Mr. Faust, The troupe started in Rochester and reached Trenton on January 8 when Betty, starring in two performances, g'ave the good people of her hometown memories that will live long in the heart of every one who has heard and seen her in Blossom Time . . . And, I , act exactly the same way now.” The teacher was trying to make the pupils think, so asked some tricky questions. “Johnny,” said the teacher, “give me an example of ‘nothing’.” Johnny di dnot hesitate. “Nothing,” he said, “is a balloon with its skin off.” “6id you make these biscuits with your own little hands.” “Yes, why?” “Oh, I just wondered who lifted them out of the oven for you.” A man went out with the boys one evening and before he realized it the morning of the next day had dawned.
