Branch 171 ANNOUNCEMENTS The officers of the Branch have been elected at our December meeting'. (For results see under "Officers Elected For 1950.”) At this time we would like to appeal to the fellowmembers not to wait with paying their monthly dues to the last day of the month because the Manager is required to submit his monthly reports to the Home Office before the end of the month and he must have a few days’ time to complete the reports. Dues may be paid at any time at the Manager’s home, 22 Walnut St., Sharpsville, Pa., telephone 9563. Our Manager is at all times at the disposal of the membership in all matters pertaining to the business of the Association. We also urge our fellow-members to pay interests on loans during the early part of the year. Unpaid interest must be added to the loan by the end of the year and that, in turn, increases net only the amount of the indebtedness but also the interest! payable thereon. In closing we wish to report to the { membership that by the end of Dej cember, 1949, our branch had 214 I members in the Senior Order and 108 members in the Junior Order, or a total of 322 members. We feel that we have every reason to be proud of the strength of our branch, considering the size of the community in ! which Branch 171 operates. However, j if the members would kindly inform the Manager of any new prospects they may find among their friends and neighbours, we could secure even more members and, thus, maintain j the splendid progress of our Branch. Bodnar, a member of Branch 17, Lorain, 0., was reelected Township Trustee for a four year term in Sheffield Township, known as the ‘fastest growing township in Lorain county',’ last November. Mr. Bodnar, a printér by trade, writes, edits, prints and publishes, all by himself, the »Hungarian language weekly, “Lorain and Vicinity,” which enjoys an unusually large circulation among the many Hungarians in this area. In addition to the newspaper job, he also is manager of the busy commercial printing establishment in which the paper is printed. Born in Lorain, in 1910, he has been at this job for the last 23 years. Incidentally, Sheffield Township has three trustees of whom two, Louis P. Bodnar and Anton Újhelyi, are both Hungarians and members of the Verhovay at Branch 17, in Lorain. Mr. Bodnar is a great' friend of the Verhovay and of every enterprise designed to serve the best interests of the Americans of Hungarian descent. John Megulesz Buried In Trenton — Final Tribute For Board of Directors Paid By Branch-President Frank Radvany. — In- the death of John Megulesz, on Wednesday, November 2, Branch 13 of Trenton, N. J., lost a charter member, an officer of more than three decades of active service whose contributions to the advancement of the Verhovay won him the permanent honorary Presidency from his branch and the Degree of Illustrious Member from the Board of Directors. Burial services for the Illustrious Verhovayan were held on Saturday, November 5th, according to the rites of the Roman Catholic Church, in Trenton, N. J. Branch-President Frank Radvany, placing a wreath on the grave of the deceased branch officer, spoke on behalf of the Board of Directors. . “In paying final tribute for the Verhovay Fraternal Insurance Association and the officers and members of Branch 13 to John Megulesz,” said Mr. Radvany, “may I briefly review what this dear brother of ours has meant to us. He was a charter member of the Hungarian Roman Catholic Church of Trenton and of nearly every large Hungarian organization. For many years he had devoted much of his time and energy to the building and the maintenance of the Trenton Hungarian Home. There was no Hungarian social or civic movement to the outcome of which he had not made important contributions. He was an inspired leader of our young people, always ready to serve them with advice and guidance until illness prevented him from continuing his activities, but even on his sickbed he followed the events in Hungarian social life with the greatest interest. “Many a time he had helped us who have been close to him in the service of Branch 13 of the Verhovay Fraternal Insui'ance Association of which he was a charter member, President and officer for many years, and a delegate to the National Convention. It was in recognition of his outstanding services that Branch 13 elected him permanent Honorary President and the Board of Directors of the Association bestowed upon him the Degree of Illustrious Member. “Deeply saddened by our loss, I bid you farewell, beloved Illustrious Fellow-member John Megulesz, honorary President of Branch 13, and I place this wreath on your grave on behalf of the Board of Directors of our Association in the firm hope that the. good Lord will reward your fraternal services and brotherly deeds by granting you ,peace and salvation. “Farewell and Godspeed, brother Megulesz, Illustrious Fellow-member, honorary President.” Donations To The Crippled Children’s And Aged Member’s Fund A donation of $25 has been received for the Verhovay Fund for the !
