Bartunek, Join The Verhovay Speaking at the banquet given in honor of Joseph Szalay, former Vice- President and Director of the Association, President of Branch 14, the Hon. Thomas A. Burke, Mayor of the City of Cleveland, Ohio, asserted that, for quite some time, he had wished to join the Verhovay. That he meant it, too. was proved on September 28th, when he and his secretary, the Hon. Senator Emil A. Bartunek, affixed their signatures to the applications written by District Manager Joseph M. Toth. Doctor Andrew Kovács, Vice-President of the Association, “happened” to be there, too. and the two gentlemen passed the medical examinations with flying colors. The city' photographer, a specialist in scooping historic events, made the most of the occasion for the benefit of our Journal. Shown on the picture are August A. Bessenyey, Police Prosecutor, a former delegate to the National Convention of the Verhovay, Senator Emil A. Bartunek, receiving a Verhovay membership certificate from Dr. Andrew Kovács, Vice-President of the Association, the Hon. Mayor Thomas A. Burke, happily smiling (he just was told that he is in perfect condition!), Sigmund Kadar, Vice-President of Branch 14, and Joseph M. Toth, District Manager, proud of having added a big city Mayor and a Senator to Branch 14’s collection of nationally prominent members. We join the above Verhovay officials in respectfully extending our sincere welcome to the Hon. Mayor Thomas A. Burke and the Hon. Senator Emil A. Bartunek in the great family of Verhovayans. We are proud of their confidence in our splendid fraternal organization whose membership will be glad to reciprocate their trust with wholehearted support in all their endeavours for the good of our nation.
