Of the 38 branch-managers who have met their production quota requirements for the first quarter of the year, 17 have failed to make the list for the second quarter. On the other hand, six managers who have not met their quota requirements for the first quarter, have fully met the requirements by the end of the semi-annual period. They are: Victor Jeszenczky, Stephen Koleszar, John Fulop, Dennis Palfalvy, Stephen Abraham and Robert Visyanski. I sincerely hope that the managers who, after meeting their first quarterly quota requirements, have failed to make this second listing, will reappear in my third quarterly report. I also hope that by the end of the third quarter the list of managers who will have met their production quota requirements, will contain many new names in addition to those mentioned in both the first and second quarterly production report. JOHN BENCZE, National President. Additional Accidental Death Benefit protection (Double Indemnity Insurance) was introduced in the Junior Order of the Verhovay on popular demand at the beginning of this year. For years the managers, organizers, and many of the members had urged the Board of Directors to extend accidental death benefit protection to the members of the Junior Order. Thus, when the Board of Directors agreed to comply with popular demand, it was taken for granted that the parents of our juvenile members will immediately avail themselves of the opportunity to get accidental death benefit protection for their children. Nothing like that happened. Very few parents of children who have joined in previous years, took the slight trouble of signing an application for an Accidental Death Benefit rider. Many of the applicants for membership in the Junior Order, admitted since the beginning of the year, have failed to apply for this additional protection. It seems people are satisfied with knowing that Double Indemnity insurance is now available for children over age of 10. But they do very little about taking advantage of its availability. This would be a good example for the capriciousness of popular demands. It could be quoted to prove that popular demand cannot always be taken seriously. The Board of Directors, however, did take it seriously in this instance because it was understood that there is actually a great need for the extension of accidental death benefit protection to the juvenile members of the Association. The many members and prospects who demanded it seemed to have realized the need much less than those who complied with their demands. The fact remains that the Association has rendered important service to the members of the Association by introducing this type of insurance protection in the juvenile order. CHILDREN ARE NEVER SAFE The accidental death rate in our country has grown by leaps and bounds during the last decades. Accidental death today is an ever present threat to everyone, but to no one more than the children. For a healthy child is naturally reckless. He just can’t “watch himself.” Blindly he runs after his ball in the path of onrushing cars. With happy laughter he dives into the shallow lake. Unthinking, he swims toward the dangerous whirlpool in the turbulent river. To play with fire is his passion. He climbs to the top of the tree and rests his weight on tender branches never meant to hold a growing boy. He turns acrobat on his bicycle on a heavily travelled road. He picks the most dangerous spots for sled-riding. He knows no greater fun than to take a ride hanging on to the rear end of a truck. Like a ropewalker he will hang over the edge of a rocky ravine on his way to a bird’s nest. Swinging a hatchet he' enacts the bloody tales of the Indians. He can’t resist touching the broken-down high-tension line. He won’t rest until trying his father’s hunting gun. And so on. There is no end to the dangerous games of the children, both boys and girls. And each of these games is a grave hazard exacting an ever increasing toll in the lives of the children who simply can’t be careful. Even the most careful adult is exposed to accidents. But children court danger, they invite accidents and, therefore, the extension of accidental death benefit protection to children over 10 years of age is an important service to the Verhovay membership, especially the parents. LOW RATES, LIBERAL TERMS Even though children are more apt than adults to become victims of accidents, the rates for accidental jieath benefit (Double Indemnity insurance) are the same in the Junior order as in the Senior Order. The rate for an accidental death benefit rider to a $500 life insurance certificate is 15 cents per month, to a $1,000 certificate 25 cents, to a $1,500 certificate 40 cents and to a $2,000 certificate 50 cents. The rider provides that if death should occur as a result of an accident, double indemnity, that is twice the amount of the life insurance certificate shall be paid to the beneficiaries, provided that death occurs within 90 days of the time of injury and before the age of 70. Certain restrictions apply to the double indemnity provisions of all insurance companies and societies. There are approximately 100 possible restrictions of which the double indemnity riders of some companies maintain as many as 20-25, while others, more liberally inclined, specify only 8 to 10. Verhovay’s additional accidental death benefit insurance maintains only 8 restrictions, to wit: the double indemnity benefit shall not be payable if the death of the member should result 1.) from self destruction, 2.) from injuries received in the pursuit of what the Association’s by-laws classify as either hazardous or prohibited occupations, 3.) from injuries sustained in military service, 4.) from participation in aeronautical or submarine operations, 5.) from committing any act in violation of any criminal law, 6.) from riot, insurrection or war, 7.) from taking poison, 8.) from bodily or mental infirmity or disease or infections not resulting from an accident. These restrictions prevail in all insurance organizations, but many of the other restrictions, maintained in addition to the above by most of the insurers, do not apply in the Verhovay. Since each restriction reduces to a certain extent the liability of an insurer, the value of an accidental death benefit contract depends on how few restrictions apply thereto. The cost of double indemnity protection is necessarily higher if few restrictions are maintained than in cases when the insurer’s liability is reduced by the application of a great many restrictions. Hence, in double indemnity insurance the conditions of benefit payments are more important than the rates. And because Verhovay maintains the least possible number of restrictions, its accidental death benefit certificate is considered an excellent contract. APPLY TODAY! Juvenile accidental death benefit insurance has been introduced as a service to the parents of our juvenile members. We urge all parents whose children have attained the age of 10, to apply for accidental death benefit certificates without delay. Those hereafter joining the Junior Order, may apply for additional accidental death benefit protection at the time when application is made for ordinary juvenile life insurance. No accidental death benefit rider can be attached to a juvenile term certificate. Only holders of, or applicants for ordinary life insurance certificates are eligible. But all those who are eligible, are urged to act today. Consult your branch-manager who will be glad to write the application for your children.
