ANTHONY NOEL, Pres. STEPHEN SZEMES, JR. Mgr. GOLDEN WEDDING ANNIVERSARY On July 16th, two pioneer members of the Verhovay family, Mr. and Mrs. John Érsek of Milmont Park, Pa., celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Present were their nine children, thirty-seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. They came from all parts of the country, — Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Ohio, New Jersey, and nearby points, — to attend the gala celebration. Mr. Érsek certainly showed the younger generation present some amazing vitality by dancing every ‘csárdás’, polka and other dances, and he seemed to impart his spirit to everyone. Mr. and Mrs. Érsek received many beautiful gifts and good wishes on this happy occasion. The Erseks came to America in 1910. Mr. Érsek was pensioned in 1948 after 39 years of faithful service at the Baldwin Locomotive works. He was formerly a manager of Br. 326, Milmont Park, Pa., now merged with Branch 76. We take this opportunity to extend our best wishes for continued happiness and good health for many years to come, to both Mr. and Mrs. Érsek. STEPHEN SZEMES, JR., Mgr. ALLIANCE, O. Mgr., Field Supervisor.--------------------- Verhovay EVERYTHING BUT A tourist entered a village store and asked, “Whaddya got in the shape of autompbile tires?” “In the shape of automobile tires,” replied the storekeeper, we’ve got funeral wreaths, life preservers, invalid cushions and doughnuts.” HER ERROR The young pair had had a momentary disagreement. Then the girl snuggled up to him. “Darling,” she whispered, “don’t harden your heart against me.” Looking down at her pleading face, he gulped twice and then said: “You’re wrong, my pet. That isn’t my heart; it’s my cigarette case.” Journal PAGE 3 FAMILY WEDDING IN, DEARBORN By the FERRET. This will be a family story! Naturally, since fraternalism is based on family life, it will also be a fraternal story. But to the details . . . At an afternoon ceremony in the Christ Episcopal Church in West Dearborn on June 11, the Reverend Hedley Stacey joined in marriage Miss Josephine Horvath (the kid sister) and Frederick Crocker. The Horvath baby was given in marriage by her brother (and mine) Nicholas Xavier (the former Reivax columnist in the Journal), and was radiantly beautiful in white satin, featuring a seed pearl trimmed illusion yoke, framed in a tiered shoulder cuff. Her gathered skirt fell into a chapel train. A long net veil was attached to the bride’s satin bonnet, made by sis-' ter Mrs. Stephen Horvath. White gardenias and stephanotis comprised the bridal bouquet. Miss Helen Thomas, maid pf honor, was frocked in a green faille. Her gown was designed with an illusion yoke, double shoulder cuff and hip detail. She wore a matching horsehair picture hat and carried a parasol filled with red roses. The bridesmaids: the Misses Margaret Crocker in yellow, Freda da Vecchio in orchid, and Stella Samples in peach, were dressed identical to the maid of honor. Their picture hats were white and their para. sols boasted pink carnations. Raymond Witzka (son of members Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Greenwald), best man, was assisted by the groom’s brother, Charles, the bride’s brother, William (that’s our Billy-boy, the “bach” in the family), and Carl Lucas (my sweet-boy graduate “Skipper”) as ushers. A reception for 500 guests was held at the Verhovay Club, and believe me, there was PLENTY to eat and excellent service by the bride’s numerous brothers, sisters, in-laws and hordes of cousins. Naturally, the food was tops, as why shouldn’t it be with Mom, who is Mrs. Mary Horvath Rob supervising, and members Mrs. Samuel Toth and Mrs. Anna Horvath giving her four big hands, along with other cooks from Detroit’s Verhovay branches. Just to give you an idea of the size of this family of ours — all. Branch 429 members . . . starting with the eldest and going down the line . . . Mr. and Mrs. Louis (Ferret) Lucas and sons “Skipper” and Larry .. . Mr. and Mrs. Steve Horvath and daughter Yolan (from Copemish, Michigan) .'. . Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Xavier Horvath and daughters Sylvia and Susan . . . Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Parsons (sis Jeanette) and children, Lynne and Bruce (new members) . . . Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Horvath (sis Mary — she didn’t bother changing her name, liking Horvath so well) and Children Edwina, Edward and Steve, Jr. . . . . Bachelor-boy William (who will enter his second year at University of Michigan in the fall (along with his “nephoo” Carl Lucas) . . . and the baby, Josephine, and Fred Crocker... Twenty-four. Among those guests who were Branch 429 members were . . . the Bores Families, Jack and Mrs., and Mary and Casimer . .. The Leonard Brunettes and sons . . . from the Cser Family, only “Boogie-woogie” pianist Tommy was able to make it, as the rest of the family were sick... The John Fishers and sons . . . Marie Gallovich and her parents . . . Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Greenwald . . . Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Horvath . . . The Kuritar Family (Mom’s side of the family) . . . The Malcolm Mac-JOSEPHINE HORVATH BRIDE OF FREDERICK CROCKER Leod’s and Jerry . . . The Magyars (Dad’s side of the family) . . . Alexander Novak, (my stap' bowler) . . . Two Rakoczy Families . . . Comptroller and Bowling Team Captain Roger Rogers . . . The Sara Family . . . the John and Julius Szalay Families . . . the Joseph Toths . . . the Samuel Toths . . . Well, that about includes practically 80% of the 429 branch . . . As you see, we are a family by ourselves, a FRATERNAL family, sharing in joys and sorrows, weddings and funerals, parties and dances . . . You couldn’t split us up and keep us happy! But you want to hear more, eh? So, the kids trekked off to points north, ending up at the Crocker cabin at Iron Mountain in the Northern Peninsula of this most beautiful state. They will live in East Dearborn on Amazon Avenue until they complete plans for a home of their own in West Dearborn. Mustn’t forget about the out-oftown guests, who are also Verhovay members and will be looking forward to this write-up. From South Bend came Mr. and Mrs. Alex Horvath, Mr. and Mrs. William Horvath and Edward Moore. Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Varga from Cement City, Michigan; Mr. and Mrs. Louis Lessner of Benzonia, Michigan and Mr. Louis Eles of London, Ontario. Hey, how come some of you Scranton relatives didn’t show up? I know you were invited . . . the Laytos Family and the rest of you. The Kuritar Family from Dayton, Ohio couldn’t make it — illness in the family. Anyway, we remembered all of you. So, Mom claims her job is done... four daughters happily married, two sons with charming families, and the “bach” doing all ^ight for himself . . . Thanks, Mom, for being such a priceless jewel to all of us. Without you to guide us, and share in our trials and tribulations, without you to share our fun with, we couldn’t look back with such gratitude on our happy lives. You, and Dad (even though he is gone), have been the grandest parents seven kids could ever have. We all love you very much! A dumb girl is a dope. A dope is a drug. Doctors usually give drugs to relieve pain. Therefore, a dumb girl is just what the doctor ordered.
