July 20, 1049 Verhovay Journal PAGE 3 CRIPPLED CHILDREN’S FUND TOTALS TO-DATE $7,340.91 — 1949 Verhovay Charity Day Campaign closes with $4,483.73 in 2,049 donations. — 20,000 letters had been mailed to members and friends of the Verhovay in the earlier part of the year, on the occasion of the Association’s 63rd birthday, designated Verhovay Charity Day for the benefit of the Verhovay Fund for the Aiding of Crippled Juvenile members. Of the 20,000 to whom this special appeal was made, a little over 10%, or, to be exact, 2049 responded with donations that totalled $4,483.73, which includes several large donations made by branches, like the magnanimous contribution of $1,000 by Branch 132, South Bend, Ind. No more donations had been received since the end of May and. therefore, the 1949 Verhovay Charity Day campaign is considered closed as of that date. While we wish to thank each and every donor for his, or her, generous contribution to this noble cause, we cannot repress our discouragement over the fact that only 10% of all coin envelopes were returned. It is due to this fact that NEWS From The Field (Continued from page 2) CHICAGO, ILL. Branch 96 NEW MANAGER Members of Branch 96 are advised that Mr. Joseph Faykuse, 11933 So. Union Ave., Chicago 28, 111., telephone Waterfall 8-7223 has assumed the management of the branch. The members of Branch 96 are requested to contact in all matters pertaining to the business of the Association Manager Joseph Faykuse who will make every effort to render efficient and satisfactory service to the entire membership. THE HOME OFFICE. BETLEHEM, PA. Branch 98 PICNIC ON JULY 24 Women’s Branch 98 of Betlehem, Pa., is sponsoring a picnic to be held on Sunday, July 24th, beginning at 3 o’clock at the Vargyas farm in Hellertown which is easily reached by car as well as by the Mountainville bus. All members and friends of Branch 98 as well as the sisterbranches in the vicinity are cordially invited. Music will be furnished by John Toth and Alexander Vig. Admission is $1.50 for the men and $1.00 for the ladies, which includes the cost of refreshments. All those having tickets are requested to turn them in as soon as possible, but not later than on the day before the picnic. Branch 98 sponsors only one annual affair of this kind. Let us make a real Verhovay reunion of this occasion. A good time will be had by all. PETER TOTH, President, STEPHEN LANG, Manager. WINDSOR, O. Branch 487 NOTICE All members of Branch 487 are requested to pay their dues and report all claims to my daughter-inlaw, Mrs. Val Czomba, Windsor, O., who, during my absence in Arizona in August, will handle all matters of the branch, with the approval of the Home office. MRS. ALBERT CZOMBA, Mgr. the Verhovay Crippled Childrens’ Fund cannot commence operations this year since at least $15,000 are needed to make the fund operative. We hope, however, that the fine example given by those who had responded to our appeal, will be followed by others not only on the 64th birthday of the Association in next February, but also in the meantime. In this respect we look forward with great hopes to the Eastern Verhovay Day, to be held at the Danish Grove, Metuchen, N. J., on Sunday, August 14th, whose Committee, representing 12 eastern branches of the Association, have agreed to turn over 25% of the net proceeds to this great affair to the Crippled Children’s Fund. For their decision we express our sincere thanks to the members of this committee. The final installment of the listing of the donations received in the 1949 Verhovay Charity Day Campaign follows.
