Toixra&ameiit Information At this time we still have more than two and a half months to go until the 6th Verhovay National Bowling Tournament. Yet, from some quarters we are besieged with impatient questions in regards to matters on which vve cannot possibly have the final inforjnation at this early date. We wish to plead with our bowlers to exercise a little patience and to rest assured that all information will be furnished well in advance to give each and every team as well as all spectators sufficient time to make their arrangements. The prize list is one of the' favorite topics of our interrogators. Yet, in several instances we have explained in these columns that neither the amounts nor the numbers of the prizes to be awarded can be set until some estimate can be made of the outcome of the financial campaign now in process. Since the campaign will not be concluded before the Bowling Tournament, it is impossible to give a definite answer on this score this far ahead of the cam. paign’s conclusion. However, for the assurance of the participants-to-be the National Executive Committee assumed a minimum guarantee of $4,000 in prizes and trophies. This is far above the amount allotted in the last Tournament and, therefore, the bowlers have every assurance that this year’s prizes will make it well worth their time to attend the Detroit tourney. This also answers the question as to why the entry fees have been increased this year. Since the prizes to be awarded this year will represent a far higher amount than was spent last year, it is only fair that the entry fees be increased somewhat, though in a far lesser proportion. The balance of the amount needed to make up for the difference between this year’s and last year’s prizes is to come from the Tournament Financing Campaign the outcome of which will determine also whether or not the guaranteed minimum can be exceeded and if so, to what extent. Several inquirers want to know about hotel reservations and rates. Though arrangements with the Hotel Fort Shelby had been made by the Committee last November, neither question could be answered at an earlier date,-mainly because, due to economic conditions, rates were quoted subject to changes. The presently effective rates are as follows: single room — $3.50 up to $7.00, double room, with double bed $5.50 up to $8.00, double room with twin beds $6.00 to $9.00. Final arrangements, however, obviously depend on the number of guests to be accomodated. This, on the other hand, cannot be determined before all entries are in. The deadline for the entries is March 15th (after the closing of this edition), hence no information can be given on this point either at this date. All the participants of the tournament, however, can rest assured that their reservation problems will be taken care of in due time. The necessary information together Aith the forms for reservations will be mailed to all branch-managers and bowling team captains in the first half of April, that is, at least 5 or 6 weeks before the Tournament. Accomodations for nearly 800 guests have been reserved in November and, thus, every ‘participant is assured of accomodations, and at a reasonable rate. Plans for the Tournament Banquet will be published in the April and May editions of the Journal. BOWLING — SCORES — DETROIT, MICH. Following the match, the Windsor team entertained the visitors in a most hospitable manner for which we wish to extend our sincere thanks to our good neighbours. A return match engagement took place a week later in Detroit when the bowlers -from Windsor were our guests. Both matches have left us with the most pleasant memories. The scores follow.
