Y. MINUTES of the meeting of District 6, held on Nov. 23rd, 1947, in the meeting room of the Hungarian Lutheran Church. Present are: Nicholas Nagy, Louis Kocsis and the Rev. John L. E. De Papp of Branch 121, Buffalo, N. Y., Andrew Bandy of Branch 290, Depew, N. Y., Fiánk Komaromy of Branch 221, Ithaca, N. Y., John Beky and William Sary of Branch 84, Lackawanna, N. Y. A fine opening address is delivered by district chairman John Beky who extends a cordial welcome to the delegates and requests district recorder Rev. John L. E. De Papp to read the minutes of the district session held last June. The minutes are read by the secretary, unanimously approved by the meeting and attested by Andrew Bandy and Frank Komaromy. Following the signing cf the minutes, Andrew Bandy and Frank Komaromy, delegates to the National Convention, report at great length on the proceedings of the National Convention of the Verhovay F. I. Ass’n, held in Pittsburgh, Pa. The district session, then, accords a vote of thanks to the delegates for having well and conscientiously attended to their duties. The amendments to the By-laws adopted by the National Convention are taken under lengthy and thorough consideration. Selective action not being allowed, since the amendments to the By-laws must be either approved or rejected in their entirety, the district session decides to reject the amendments to the By-laws adopted by the National Convention. This action is taken by the unanimous consent of the delegates who, fully conscious of their responsibilities, fee] that they cannot agree to the amendments to the Bylaws and wish that the membership of District 6 be informed thereof, in no uncertain terms, by the medium of the official organ of the Verhovay F. I. Association. The selection of the place and date of the next district session is referred to the district chairman. The District Session respectfully recommends to the Board of Directors that the Verhovay award be granted to Andrew Bandy in recognition of his meritorious services as Manager of Branch 290 for 29 years. REV. JOHN L. E. de PAPP, district recorder. DISTRICT 26/C EAST CHICAGO, IND. MINUTES, taken at the meeting of District 26/C, representing Branch 130, East Chicago, Ind., held on Nov. 30th, 1947. Chairman Joseph Churilla calls the meeting to order and extends a cordial welcome to the fellow-members. He calls upon district recorder Nicholas Palla, delegate of District 26/C to the National Convention, to read the amendments to the By-laws adopted by the National Convention. DISTRICT 27 CHICAGO, ILL. MINUTES, taken at the meeting of District 27, representing Branch 37, Chicago, 111., held on November 15th, 1947. The following is the result of the vote taken in regards to the amendments to the By-laws adopted by the 21st National Convention of the Verhovay Fraternal Insurance* Association, held on September 8th, 1947, and the following days: The membership of Branch 37 (District 27) unanimously voted in favor of ratifying the amendments to the By-law». We, the undersigned, officers of District 27, herewith attest by our signatures that the above is the true record of the result of the vote taken at the district session. District chairman Andrew Varga having been unable to attend the session due to circumstances arising from his employment, vice-president Michael Becze presided at the district meeting. DISTRICT 28 RACINE, WIS, The meeting of Distinct 28, held at the Hungarian Club in Racine, Wis., on Nov. 30th, 1947, was attended by the following: Frank Beleznay, chairman, Branch 275; Julius Wank, Branch 475; Martin Dolezar, Branch 275; Emery Vojtko, Branch 137; Julius Taubert, Branch 55 M; John Kondrath, district recorder, Branch 157. The amendments to the By-laws adopted by the National Convention were ratified by District 28, by a majority of 5 affirmative votes over 1 dissenting vote. JOHN A. KONDRATH, district recorder. DISTRICT 11/B JOHNSTOWN, PA. MINUTES, taken at the meeting of District 11/B, representing Branch 8, held in Johnstown, Pa., on November 16th, 1947. District chairman Stephen Lengyel welcomes the membership, explains that the meeting has been called for the purpose of taking action in regards to the amendments to the Bylaws adopted by the National Convention, and calls the meeting to order. Chairman requests the district recorder to read the instructions of the Home Office as to the procedure to be followed in this matter. The instructions are read and duly acknowledged. The amendments to the By-laws are read, and, thereupon, the membership, by majority vote, takes the following action: Whereas several of the provisions of the amended Bylaws are not found acceptable by the membership, the amendments to the By-laws are rejected in their entirety. STEPHEN LENGYEL, district chairman, FRANK DUDÁS, district recorder. DISTRICT 2/B TRENTON, N. J. MINUTES, taken at the meeting of District 2/B, representing Branch 13, held on November 29, 1947, in the Hungarian Home of Trenton, N. J. District chairman Frank Radvanyi calls the meeting to order at 8 P.M., and extends a cordial welcome to the 18 members attending the session. Chairman states that the meeting has been called for the purpose of discussing and voting upon the amendments to the By-laws adopted by the National Convention. • He explains, further, that the amendments may be either adopted or rejected in their entirety. His statements are duly acknowledged by the membership. District recorder Frank Molnár announces that a letter has been received from Branch 64, Canton, 0. Upon request by the chairman, the letter is read by the district recorder. The members, in view of its impropriety, refuse to acknowledge the letter. The amendments to the By-laws are read and discussed. Certain provisions, considered detrimental to the interests of the aged members, are objected to by the members, however, in view of their obligatory nature, they finally are consented to. Thereupon, the amendments to the By-laws are unanimously ratified in their entirety. Thanking the members for their cooperation, chairman Frank Radvanyi adjourns the meeting. FRANK RADVANYI, district chairman, FRANK MOLNÁR, district recorder. DISTRICT 33 BUFALLO, N. Y. MINUTES of the meeting of Distinct 33, held on November 30th, 1947, at the meeting hall adjacent to Young’s Bowling Alleys. Present are: Joseph S. Taylor, Charles A. Young, Frank Vereb of Branch 383, Phillip Houser, Frank Horvath of Branch 364, Mike Buzogány, John Fulop, Mike Korossy of Branch 369, Dr. Andrew Kovács, cf Branch 367, Edward Torda, Charles Moses of Branch 366, Leslie Monos of Branch 477, Julius Chaszar of Branch 372, Joseph Parti of Branch 416. The meeting is called to order by President Joseph S. Taylor at 10:30 A.M. The minutes of (he meeting held on June 29th, 1947, are read by district secretary Philip Houser of Youngstown, O. Motion is made by Mr. Torda, and seconded by Mr. Monos Sr., that the minutes be approved as read. The motion is carried. The letter of the Home Office, dated November 6, 1947, regarding to the modifications of the By-laws effected by the National Convention, is read by the district secretary. The meeting desires that the entire modification be read in English. Secretary complies with the request. After some discussion of the amendments from the floor it was put to the delegates to vote by secret ballot whether or not the Bylaws as amended by the 21st National Convention held on September 8, 1947, and the following days, be ratified. The result of the vote is: 8 delegates voted in favor of ratifying the amendments and 6 cast dissenting votes. Thus, district 33, cast their 5 votes for approving the amendments to the By-laws in their entirety. Due to the fact that secretary Anna M. Petro may resign, Mr. John Fulop moved that Philip S. Houser be elected alternate secretary. The motion, seconded by Edw-ard Torda, is carried and Philip Houser accepted. Inasmuch as Mr. Joseph Taylor has been elected alternate director for the English speaking membership of the Verhovay, an alternate President for District 33 is to be elected. Mr. Mike Buzogány of Branch 369, Alliance, O., is elected and he accepts. The next session of the 33rd district is awarded to Branch 369. Alliance, O. The expenses of the fleeting amount to $625.02. The meeting adjourns at 3 P.M. PHILIP HOUSER, recording secretary. DISTRICT 1/B BRIDGEPORT, CONN. MINUTES of the meeting of Dis-PAGE 7 trict 1/B, held on November 30th, 1947, at the Rákóczi Hall in Bridgeport, Conn. Present are: George Bandre, Arthur Stumpf, László Csenger from Branch 68, Bridgeport, Conn.; Andrew Kovács from Branch 390, New Haven, Conn.; Ernest Horvath from Branch 239, Stamford, Conn.; and Stephen Varga from Branch 200, South Norwalk, Conn. The meeting is called to order by district chairman Arthur Stumpf who extends a cordial welcome to the delegates and, then, presents the amendments to the By-laws. The delegates discuss the amendments to the By-laws and by a vote of 6 to 0, unanimously approve them. GEORGE BANDRE, Secretary, ARTHUR STUMPF, chairman. DISTRICT 12/B DUQUESNE, PA. 1. ) MINUTES, taken at the meeting of Branch 71, Duquesne, Pa., constituting District 12/B, held on November 17th, 1947. in the schoolhall of the Hungarian Greek Catholic Church, 1211-13 Kennedy Ave., Duquesne, Pa. 2. ) Chairman John A. Toth welcomes the members attending the session and explains the actions taken by the National Convention. He calls upon secretary John Kucik to read the Hungarian text of the amendments to the By-laws adopted by the National Convention. First, however, the recording secretary reads the letter of the Home Office replying to the circular of Branch 64, Canton, O., while the latter is read by chairman John A. Toth. After some discussion the letters are acknowledged by the meeting.-3.) Recording Secretary reads the entire text of the amendments to the By-laws adopted by the 21st National Convention. After a discussion of the amendments chairman puts the matter to a vote. The following 7' members voted opposed to the ratification of the amendments: Joseph Szalay, Charles Szűcs, Peter Szabó, John Prekop, John Fedor,Nicholas Toth and Nicholas Balázs Sr. 4. ) The following 5 members voted in favor of ratifying the amendments: John A. Kucik, Frank Szalay, Nicholas Szakszón, and Alexander Takacs. Chairman John A. Toth remained neutral and did not vote. 5. ) Five members who had not voted left the meeting at 9:30 P.M. They were: Mrs. John Horvath, Stephen R. Szabó, Joseph Szűcs, Louis Szűcs and Rudolf Thomas. 6. ) Before the vote was taken, . John A. Kucik appealed to the members to ratify the amendments, because, in t(ie event the amendments should be rejected by a two-third majority, a new convention would have to be called which wouild involve a substantial expenditure. However, John A. Toth, President of District 12/B and delegate to the National Convention, definitely stated, in several instances, that this should not concern the members because the costs of a new convention would have to be born by the Home Office if a two-third majority of the branches and districts would demand the calling of a new convention. 5 members having voted in favor of, and 7 opposed to the ratification of the amendments, the actions of the National Convention have been rejected in their entirety. 7. ) Recording Secretary announces that the expenses of the meeting amount to $19.00. This is approved by the meeting. There being no further business, chairman thanks the members for their cooperation and adjourns the meeting at 10:05 P.M. JOHN A. (Continued on page 8)
