, PAGE 10 Verhovay Bowling Hews and Scores Our Fifth National Bowling Tournament It’s too early to expect much in the way of developments concerning Verhovay’s Eth National Bowling Tournament to be held in Cleveland, O., on May 14-16, 1948, but that much already is apparent that Verhovay bowlers all over the country are keenly interested in this event. The Tournament Committee of Branch 14, Cleveland, O., host to the C>th Verhovay Bowling Tourney, already has taken charge of the arrangements and, as J. J. Horvath reports in his column, all necessary information will be available by January 1st, 1948. The hospitable gesture of many of our fellowmembers in Cleveland, offering- to house the visiting bowlers, is deeply appreciated, for it is proof that those planning to participate in the tourney, wild be made to feel at home in the tournament city. Wherever the bowlers will be housed, in hotels, homes, or both, they will be aware of the friendliness with which they are to be received by our Cleveland membership. The Tournament Committee of the Board of Directors already have completed the first part of their great task and new developments cannot be expected for the time britig. Two members of the Committee, Dr. Prince and C. Smith, retire from the Board of Directors by the end of this year and that leaves vice-president Ari and director Phillips with the responsibility of carrying on. Naturally, until the vacancies on the Committee will be filled by the new Board of Directors, they will not find it possible to take any action exceeding the limit-NEWS From The Field matters will bo discussed at our annual meeting to be held on Sunday, December 7th. In view of the importance of this meeting the presence of every member of the branch is required. JOSEPH SZABÓ, Manager. Journal November 26, 1947 ations of the Rules and Regulations of the Tournament, previously formulated by the Committee. Judging from J. J. Horvath’s column (“Cleveland, O., Br. 14 reporting”) and from other inquiries, there seems to be a demand for a complete schedule of prizes and awards to be made at the Tournament. It would hardly be possible to comply with this request at the present time, partly because of the temporary incompleteness of the Tournament Committee of the Board of Directors and partly because, obviously, the amount and number of cash-prizes depends on the number of teams entering the tournament. Under these circumstances provisions for prizes could be expressed only in general terms as has been done by the directors’ Tournament Committee in the Rules and Regulations of the tourney where it is stated that “The prizes will compare favorably with those awarded at the South Bend National Tournament.” Thus, the prize list of the last Tournament may be used for guidance in making a tentative estitnate of what to expect in regards to the prizes to be awarded in the coming tourney. At South Bend the Men’s Division was alotted nearly $1,200 and the Women's Division nearly $350 in prizes. Eight prizes, ranging from $200 down to $15, were awarded in the Five Man event, three prizes, ranging: from $10 to $2.50'! in the High j One Game and High Three Gamp team event, 14 prizes, ranging from $100 down to $0.00 in the Two Man event, 3 prizes, from $6 to $2.50, in the High One Game and High Three Game Two Man event, 21 prizes, ranging from $75 down to $3.00 in the Individual Event, and 9 prizes, j ranging from $25 to $2 in the Ali i Events category in the Men’s Division. Three prizes, ranging from $75 down to $15, were awarded in the Five Woman Event, 3 prizes, ranging from $7 to SI in the High One Game and High Three Game Team event, 5 prizes, ranging from $50 down to $4.in the Two Woman event with three special prizes, from $4 to $1 in the High One Game and High Three Games series of the same event, 10 prizes, ranging from $25 down to $2 in the Singles and 7 ; prizes, ranging from $15 down to j $2 in the All Events category in the j Women’s Division. Altogether 89 cash prizes had been j awarded in addition to various trophies and to special prizes provided by Branch 132. According to the Tournament Rules : and Regulations the prizes of the i 5th Verhovay National Bowling Tournament will compare favorably with the above schedule and that should give us a general idea as to the tentative provisions made up to this time. On the other hand, definite provisions had been made and included j in the Tournament Rules and Reg- ; ulations by the directors’ Tournament Committee in regards to SPECIAL EVENT PRIZES to be awarded in addition to those made at the South Bend tourney. According to the Tournament Rules, these special prizes “will be available to duly organized Verhovay teams, bowling as a Branch team (5 Man, 2 Man, or individual) in ABC sanctioned I leagues all season.” 24 awards, representing $407.50, appear in this category, according t<j( the following schedule: A. ) Best Uniformed Verhovay team. Women's Division: $15, $10, $5, and Men’s Division $15, $10, $5. B. ) Champions — 5 Man — Men’s Division: $75, $50 and $25. C. ) Champions — 5 Man — Women’s Division: $30, $20, $10. D. ) Champions — 2 Man —• Men’s Division: $30, $20, $10. E. ) Champions — 2 Man — Women’s Division: $15. $10. $5. F. ) Champions — Individual — Men’s Division: $15, $10, and $5. G. ) Champions — Individual — Women’s Division: $10, $5, and $2.50. General championship awards will include, in addition to the dash prizes, medals, and trophies in tho Five Man, Two Man, Individualand All Events categories. Further information willbe released in the future issuesof the Journal. SCORES NEW BRUNSWICK, N. J.
