PAGE 12 Verhovay Journal October 29, 1947 AMERICAN HUNGARIAN FEDERATION CHICAGO CONVENTION By: Stephen Huzianyi Plans for The American Hungarian Federation Convention in Chicago are getting rapidly under way, with some of the details already attended to, such as part of the program, etc., according to Mr. Joseph C. Csanády, Chairman of the Convention Committee. The best news of the week is that Mr. Joseph Sziics (President of the South Side Federation of Magyar Churches and Societies) reported that the Federation, at its meeting held Sept. 25th, voted to cooperate 100% with the Convention Committee. Mr. Joseph Engelhardt was unanimously elected Treasurer of the American Hungarian Federation Convention at a meeting of the Convention Committee held at the Balaton Inn on September 22nd. Through an oversight this fact was not mentioned in the article published last week. Mr. Engelhardt, a trustee of St. Stephen King of Hungary Church and President of the Holy Name Society, is well-known in northside Hungarian communities. i The very popular Miss Yolanka Horkav. the sóprano with a brilliant and colorful voice, is scheduled to sing the American national anthem and the Magyar Himnusz. Mr. Antal Skolny, who has rendered many Kurucz songs on the TÁROGATÓ at various Hungarian functions, will also render ancient, typically Magyar Kurucz songs on the program of The American Hungarian Convention at the Stevens Hotel, November 17 and 18th. FRITZ REINER, Director of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, is the Honorary Chairman, and Albert A. Fiók, Esqu., and Julius Lenart are the co-chairman of the concert sponsored by Chapter 117 of the American Hugnarian Relief, Inc. Appearing for the first time in Pittsburgh, three of the most outstanding concert artists of the musical world will entertain you in the person of EDWARD KILENYI, internationally known concert pianist, whose gifted fingers thrilled packed audiences in Brussels. London, Paris, New York, Washington, D. C„ Cleveland. Chicago. While in Washington, President Truman kept him singing until the late hours of the morning. The entire proceeds of the concert will be utilized to help save 260,000 unfortunate war orphans in Hungary, who are without home, food apd adequate clothing. The devastation, misery and almost unbearable conditions under which these babies and young children exist cannot be adequately described in words. Through us, these underfed and homeless orphans are appealing to you for an opportunity to live — in a country bombed, burned, and ravaged by the war! And because you believe in helping to save such young lives, we feel you will assist and aid them in their fight to live.
