PFC. JOSEPH L. MARKOS (2720 N. Melvina Avenue), honorably discharged from the army, had a lot to relate to us about his service in Europe with the 398th Combat MP Regiment. He was inducted in October, 1942 and became a civilian last January. He was at Normandy and in the campaigns in Northern France, and holds ribbons for the European - African - Middle Eastern theatre with two battle stars, American Campaign, Presidential Citation (for Mortain near Brest), Good Conduct, World War II medal. At the Omaha beach invasion, he was with the 30th (Old Hickory) Division with the 1st Army, at Avranches, St. Lo, Mortain, Le Mans, Aachen, Mannheim, etc. One interesting point was brought up by Jos When he said that in Paris he met a Hungarian proprietor of an expensive cafe off the Champs-Elysees and was treated royally. T/5 ANTON KOVÁCS (4207 W. Monroe) also had some interesting highlights to relate. Inducted in February 1943 he was discharged last November. He served in the Aleutians, Eastern Mandates, Southern Philippines and the Ryukus. His decorations include the Asiatic Pacific Theatre ribbon with four bronze battle stars, and bronze service arrowhead; Philippine Liberation with two .bronze stars; good conduct medal and the Purple Heart (Leyte). de.stand, refused to operate on his leg, so he had to consult with the family physician. T/SGT. JOHN STOIKA (2448 N. Kildare) has recently been added to the list of the Verhovay family. For over two years he served in the India-China-Burma theatre of operations. Now, in civilian, he is chief chef at Riekett’s main restaurant on Chicago Avenue near Michigan. We hope that Johnny Junior and the Mrs. Will also become 503 members soon. CHARLES VARGO, Jr., 1958 W. Huron, recently was discharged from .the army after having been with the MP’s for over two years. BOB SANOSHY was operated on at St. Anne’s hospital. His leg wound never did heal (wounded in action near Aachen) an„d Hines hospital as we un-PFC. STEVE STEFELY (948 N. Hoyne) r ec e n 11 y finished training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma and was transferred to Wherinton, W. Va. He is attached to the army secret service department and is engaged in radio studies. His parents are from Csajta, Vasmegye. A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT! Two girls wrote from Pestszentlorinc, Hungary, that they would like to correspond with Hungarian boys in the United States. Here are the addresses: Zsuzsanna Tarkó, Hunyadi utca 24, Pestszentlorinc, Hungary. Margit Horvath, Csengeri utca 3, Pestszentlorinc, Hungary. Perhaps some of our readers will want to correspond with these girls. MRS. ANTON KOVÁCS (4207 W. Monroe) has recovered from her operation at Augustana Hos pital, where she was confined for two weeks. MRS. FRANK BALOGH has recovered from her long illness and delicate operation. She spent 26 days in the Columbus Memorial Hospital. Frank (our secretary and her husband) had the services of several specialists besides that of Dr. Joseph Zoltán, who did as good a service as anyone else could. Consultations with professors proved that Dr. Zoltán was correct. The specialists temselves were puzzled thinking the case was intestinal obstruction but it turned out to be chronical appendicitis. Here, Dr. Zoltán deserves a word of thanks for his extraordinary care and treatment accorded Mrs. Balogh. Frank Balogh has some words of high praise for Dr. Zoltán—and rightfully so. MRS. MARY BALASKOVITS (625 N. Oakley) served as nurse to Mrs. Frank Balogh while she was in the Columbus Hospital, attending her for several days and nights. There are others, many friends and relatives of the Baloghs, who sent flowers and well wishes to Mrs. Balogh. To them Mr. and Mrs. Balogh express their sincere appreciation and thanks. SEVEN WOMEN’S TEAMS AT THE VERHOVAY NATIONAL BOWLING TOURNAMENT — Verhovay Bowling Tournament Totals — Editor’s remark: Due to lack of space we cannot publish the full scores at this time. However, since it is only natural that all participating teams would like to see their individual achievements recorded, we give in the following the individual 3-game totals and ‘ the team-totals including the handicaps. This should give a sufficiently clear picture of the performance of every team and their staff of bowlers. BRANCH 216, NORTHAMPTON, PA.
