If there’s delight in love 'tis when I see That heart, which others bleed for, bleed for me. WILLIAM CONGREVE A SHORT TRUE STORY A pretty young lady stepped out of a big automobile which was parked in front of our store. After she deposited a nickel in the parking meter, she approached one of our salesmen who had been standing in the lobby, and asked him ever so sweetly if he would be kind enough to deposit a nickel in the meter should her parking time expire before she came back. She explained that she had an appointment with her hairdresser and it was just possible that she would be a little late. The salesman immediately accepted this new duty and took up his watch like a faithful servant. The fust hour was up, so the salesman deposited a nickel in the meter. The second hour was up, but still no lady. So in went the second nickel. Three hours later, the salesman was still on the job depositing nickels. Then while he answered a telephone call, along came our fair, young lady and without a moment of hesitation, drove away. When the salesman returned to find the car gone lie became a bitter man. For his faithfulness and kindness he was out twenty-five cents and a lot of unappreciated effort. He vowed that the days of chivalry, so far as he was concerned, were at an end. Recently there has come to light such an abominable practice. The members of some of these branches have deliberately falsified facts to convince members of another branch to transfer their allegiance to another branch. In fairness to the branch, wherein such practices are committed, it should be stressed that the branch, as a whole, should not be condemned. Rather, the condemnation should be placed upon those unscrupulous members who would tear down and destroy anything and anyone for their personal gain. There is no need for such underhanded methods. The field of msurance within our Association is large enough to permit branches to function properly without resorting to such practices. Competition of a healthy nature should be nurtured. Care must be excercised to see that some selfish members do not get the idea to destroy all competition which brings about a gain for the other branch. It is my hope that all loyal members of our Association deal properly with such practices, and adopt measures which will not only discourage but also condemn such unfair practices. REVIEWING THE MeKEESPORT NEWS I received a postal card from Private John Benedek. John wrote that the army life certainly agreed with him. In five weeks he was able to gain thirteen pounds.
