Gall, John Kocsis, George Charney and Joseph Miller. Windber Sport Club had a very good season with two teams bowling, which will come to a close with a tournament in Johnstown, Penna. They have been at the top in this town and we wish them lots of luck in the tournament. The Sport Club gave them a party Sunday, April 18th; officers of the three branches were present, also, all the bowlers; we started out with four teams, but only two that kept bowling from the start. Below is the score with which they closed the season in Windber, but they are still keeping in shape for the tournament. Geo. THE day when you have funds to spare with which to buy insurance will never come for when you have funds to spare you will need no insurance: 429 Bowling News--------------- B/ The FERRET -------------So Bowling Season Ends! However, the 429-ers aren’t going to feel so “empty” this year, as usually occurs when the season ends. This year we have several activities planned to take care of the dull period before the middle of September. The girls’ team went out with a bang, that last night. Ethel Koy pulled off the first 200, 201 to be exact, among the femmes. Mary Raffee topped her highest series, the team bowled its highest series, and we very nearly went up another place, but the going was too tough. Verhovay was two games behind the next highest team, and it was see-saw, but as the old saying goes, “the best team won”. At any rate, we found out our team can bowl under pressure much better than when it’s an ordinary game. As witness our first City Tournament — Mary Raffee bowled most pins over her average — 22 pins — with Helen Kastura bowling 21 pins over her average. Marie Gallovich bowled average, as did Ethel Koy, and The Ferret bowled 10 pins over. Team bowled 49 points over average, which isn’t too bad for beginners in City Tournaments. The Doubles Event with Mary Kuritar and Jolán Lucas bowled on Easter Sunday moring brought the girls about 90 pins below top doubles to date — we won’t know until after May 9, when the Tournament ends, how any of us came out. The men’s team kind of went flat towards the end there, only two regular members bowling, the rest “subbing.” Fisher missed his last night due to sickness, which would have made him the only member on the team bowling the entire 33 weeks. Robb and Steve had to hold the team together the last couple of nights, but with the experience gained this year, the men’s team hopes to have better scores next year. Perhaps if Boonie comes back from the Army, the team will be more dependent on the same five men getting together regularly each week. I would like to point out that the men’s team had better get organized now, so that I can order your shirts early in August to have them ready for September’s opening game. I believe Steve Horvath will be captain next season, as bowling will be rolled at Allen Park Recreation, where the team started last season, and Steve living in Allen Park, it will make it easier for him to handle all details as to team lineup, shirts, entries, substitutes for swing-shift workers, etc. So all those men interested in bowling next season, kindly contact Steve Horvath, at 15088 McLain, Allen Park or call ATlantic 2198 by phone for details. Let’s get you men started early, so that nothing will be left to the last minute, and then your team should get a good, healthy start for lots of fun and a “fine finish”. Be sure to call Steve at your earliest convenience so that he’ll know how many teams to make reservations for. As for the women’s teams, regardless of the branch you now belong to, if you will call me early enough or notify me by mail, I will see that all prospective Verhovay bowlers, will have teams lined up. It may be that we’ll bowl at Fort Boulevard or Beacon Recreation. I believe one of my teams will bowl at Beacon next season. At any rate, the necessity for making early Maybe you have bought War Bonds—but •THE MEN of our fighting forces are giving *■ the sum of all their abilities to Uncle Sam. They have sacrificed friends, families and jobs to help America in its hour of need. Many of them have already sacrificed life itself. Are you making any sacrifices to make theirs worthwhile? Or are you complacent where you should be fiercely earnest, willing to “let George do it” when your personal responsibility is urgent and vital? Only you can answer that question. Maybe you have bought War Bonds . . . but how many? Every American worthy of the name should be buying them till it hurts. Not just with extra money that you wouldn’t need anyway. Not just with money saved the easy way. But with every penny of every day’s earnings that is not absolutely necessary to keep you and your family eating, sleeping and working! What could you answer if a soldier, sailor or marine, enduring the hell of combat for a free America, asked you this question: “Are you putting at least 10% of your income into War Savings Bonds?” A real American could answer “Yes”!
