March 25, 1943 Page 1 VERHOV AY BR. 96 MIXED LEAGUE At last the unexpected happened, team 2 leading the league met team 5 trailing them by 2 games and what a battle there was. When the smoke cleared away team 5 gained a game on team 2 by beating them 2 games, one by only 2 pins and the other by 13 pins; what a battle with only 6 more games to bowl. A1 Juhasz 216, and F. Meyerchick 211 were high for the men. Ester Meyerchick 407 and Irene Juhasz with 405, were high for the ladies. Team 3 beat team 1, two out of three games, winning the first by 6 pins and losing the second by 2 pins. It was father and mother against son, Grandpa Tinich getting 198 for high game and Grandma Tinich getting her highest game of the season. Frank Jr. getting 192 and Betty Sabo 145 for the loosers. Team 6 knocked off team 4 for 2 games, De Quick with 200 and Bob Sabo with 182, were high scores for the men; for the ladies Marge Prokop, 169, and Stella Meyerchick with 120 were high. Unde Sam's Verhovays * ★ ★ YOUNG CHICAGO 503 MEMBER JOINS COAST GUARD FRANK HUZIANY To do his share in the military service of Uncle Sam, Frank Huziany left his sophomore year at Kelly Hgh School, Chicago, where he was Cadet Corporal of the ROTC, the uniform he wears in this picture. Frank eagerly signed up several weeks ago, requesting the Coast Guard recruiting officer that he be placed on active duty as machine gunner on a PT boat. Probably one of the youngest Verhovayans in active service, Frankie at present is in training at a Coast Guard station in Michigan.--★ FRANK HODITS Frank Hodits, Seaman First Class, is member of Chicago Branch 503. He eagerly volunteered for the Navy last year and has’ already been to and from the . African battlegrounds, and, recently on a furlough, is eager for another crack at the enemy. Frank, incidentally, was born in Csajta, Vasmegye, Hungary.
