Page 9 July 31, 1941 When Summer Comes When summer comes and the bluebirds sing As they fly to their young in the nest, Then comes the time when my heart is light, And I wait for the one I love best. It was long ago that I saw her last With her sunny smile and golden hair, Sometimes when the sun sinks down in the west I fancy I see her standing there. There on the hills we used to explore, When she was my best girl and I was her beau, I can see her waiting, she’s calling to me Waving her kerchief white as snow. Soon the vision fades and I see once more The forest, the hills, and the breaking of dawn, The world is just as it was before, But something is missing—something gone! Then a gentle voice whispers low in my ear Giving me consolation: “Someday soon she’ll come back to you, When she’s on her summer vacation!” So until that day I’ll patiently wait In the shelter of the pines, To hold her close in my waiting arms, And forever call her mine! • * * * Inspiration Here I stand in solitude Watching the yellow moon drift away; And I’m dreaming of you, my love, As night slowly turns to day. The moon is gone now; just as you went, And still I waiting stand, Listening to the lonely crickets chirp, And I long for the touch of your hand. The stars are twinkling down at me, (I wonder if you ever feel like this?) They seem to be telling me there’s no use Yet, how I long for your lingering kiss! Won’t you come back to me, my own? Yes, I know we’re supposed to be through, But I’ve got to have someone to cheer me up When I’m sentimental and so blue. You’ll find me waiting for you, my own, Even though we’re supposed to be through I’ve just got to have inspiration to write And my only hope is you. * * * Summer Memories I still remember in summer-time, One evening so long ago, When you and I in the orchard stood Watching the sun sink low. I remember the gnarled old apple trees That were bursting out in bloom, And the cool breeze that blew softly by As if to echo your gentle sigh. I remember the smell of the honeysuckle, So strong and yet so sweet, And the beautiful carpet of bright green grass That seemed to welcome your dancing feet. I remember the stars that began to shine High in the sky so fair, And the wild red roses upon the hill, Which I picked to put in your golden hair. Do you remember me even now When your hair is turning gray? Do you remember that beautiful night When you stole my heart away? Verhovay ak Lapja UNITED; STATES;! Cleveland District VERHOVAY DAY Sunday, August 17, 1941 will be Cleveland District Verhovay Day. It will be held at Puritas Spring Park on the West side of Cleveland. The park is located about two miles east of the Cleveland airport, on Puritas Avenue and Rocky River Drive. From the west, look for airport signs and then go about two miles east to the park. If you are not sure, go to the Verhovay Home, 8637 Buckeye Road, where easy directions will be given to you. (At this writing, free transportation from the Verhovay Home and stops on the West side have not been designated.) The committee, under the direction of First Vice-President and Director Joseph Szalay, is working out plans for an elaborate program, which will include speeches, concerts, baseball games, both hard ball and soft ball, races for children and grownups, prizes, etc. Mr. Szalay and District Organizer Louis Vassy inform us that there will be approximately one hundred gate prizes, and the grand prize will be a new 1941 Ford de lu*e automobile. Also to be given away will be an Apex washing machine and an Emerson radio. We are not sure but we heard that the new members of 1941 will play a noteworthy role in this elaborate celebration. Traditional Hungarian food and refreshments will be served, which alone should induce everyone to attend, for no kitchen surpasses the Hungarian kitchen. All these things are being effected by the hard work of the committee, and if everybody takes this event as se-SUNDAY August 17,194! So let us all prove that we are good Verhovayans by supporting to our fullest and being instrumental in our best possible manner in putting forward a great day, the Cleveland District Verhovay Day. Let us do this for the sake of our organization, that it may be recognized throughout the length and breadth of these great United States as the greatest and most flourishing organ of Hungarian culture and fraternalism. We can do this if we all cooperate. May God have mercy on us if we misuse our trust! Fraternally, JOSEPH J. HORVATH, Assistant Publicity Director for Cleveland District Verhovay Day.
