The team has the good Verhovay spirit in it, and with Joe Lorincz cheering us on and also donating a few strikes now and then, we can’t lose. (Teams in the Verhovay League, please don’t take notice.) The averages of the boys bowling on the Verhovay team are as follows: Player Games T. P. Aver. Mike Szopo 36 5823 161.27 William Nanasy 36 5611 155.31 Joe Lorincz 33 5513 167.02 Steve Szarzi 33 5620 170.10 Frank Szopko 36 6233 173.05 The Verhovay Bowling Team has received the challenge of the South Bend Branch 132 and has accepted a series of games on a home and home basis. The dates will be selected to suit the convenience of both teams, and the first match will probably be held in January. The boys are going to bowl in the Michigan State Tournament which will be held in Saginaw in 1942. They will journey there on Saturday, January 10th, and promise quick action on the pins and a possible high score. (1 hope). There may be a shortening of the bowling season due principally to the draft, and also the fact the defense industries are going on a seven day basis. This will hit the Verhovay Bowling League very hard as we have a younger set of bowlers in the league, most of them connected with defense industries. We will have to bear along for awhile, until possibly something better will eventually will work out. We are hereby challenging the girls of Dearborn Branch 429 to a match game, as The Ferret says her team is now getting into prime condition and would like to bowl us. We will give them a reasonable spot or handicap, just enough so that we can edge them out, as every day they are improving and they really put their heart and soul into it, especially The Ferret after she gets a strike. This being the last sports article of Detroit Branch 36 for 1941, I wish my fellow contributors and members a HAPPY AND PEACEFUL 1942! Fraternally, FRANK A. Total pins of the team are getting larger with each week, and when (and if) Frank Szopko decides to match the girls with any team which challenges Deroit and Dearborn, we hope to make a fair showing, which is the best any team can do. The team is hoping Frank doesn’t have to leave for the Army until after the tournament in Pittsburgh in March, as otherwise it is improbable of women representing Greater Detroit and Dearborn in the final matches. Time will tell what happens in the future. Only the final two weeks scores will be given here as space is limited (and besides they are the best to date— that is, as the entire team): December 11 BRANCH 96 — CHICAGO, ILLINOIS Verhovay Ladies’ Auxiliary Bowling Averages Mary Kuritar 120117 104 Helen Zaker 115 80122 Cecelia Herman 72 80 96 Ethel Koy 124 92108 Jolán Lucas 80 67104 Totals _______501 436 534 December 18 Mary Kuritar98 70 102 Helen Zaker142 104 100 Cecelia Herman84 78 104 Ethel Koy127 110 125 Jolán Lucas106 74 97 Totals _____557 436 528 Monday, November24th Total Total 1st 2nd 3rd Pins Games Aver.
