Verhovayak Lapja, 1941. július-december (24. évfolyam, 27-52. szám)

1941-08-14 / 33. szám

August 14, 1941 AN OPEN LETTER TO THE SECRETARIES OF ENGLISH BRANCHES THAT BELONG TO THE CHICAGO DISTRICT Verhovaydk Labia. Now that our 55th Jubilee celebration is over and our vacation days are drawing to a close, we must concentrate on the current Mr - bership Drive that ends November 30th. You still have three and a half months time to secure new members for your branch, also a nice return for yourself, for the cash prizes that will be awarded the winners are truly worth working for. If each of the ninety-two branches that belong to the Chicago District would sign twelve members, we would reach our goal of 1000 new members in this Membership Drive. This should not seem impossible, for an “up’n’at’em” salesman it is no feat at all to write one or more applications a week, and there are still fourteen weeks left in the contest for your branch to do its part in this Drive. To date we have just a few contestants from the English branches. The District Secretary (yours truly) is at your service to give you the necessary information in regards to the Drive. Encourage your members to work in a body for your branch, and try for one of the 73 cash prizes listed on this page. Allow me to quote some of the advantages the Verhovay presents its members, which should prove to be very good selling points to your prospects: The Verhovay Fraternal Insurance Association offers much more for the money invested in it than any other insurance organization. After the third year, a paid membership has nonforfeiture options attached thereto, such as: Cash surrendes value; Paid-up value; Extended value; Loan value. Also, a dividend is paid each member. The welfare of our young folks is in the uppermost thoughts of the leaders of our organization, for a fund has been established that will enable a child to further his education by attending college, if his parents, due to financial circumstances, are unable to give him this advantage. The Verhovay not only helps us but also our children. America is the Land of Opportunity, and we don’t know what high positions our children can fill if they are given the benefit of higher education. Besides the tuition fund, the Verhovay has set aside a sports fund for the use of our sports loving members. It has long been recognized among the leaders of our organization that the promotion of sports activities builds stronger bodies and keener minds. Therefore, it has been a policy of the Verhovay to allot funds for sports to the deserving branches. The Verhovay has not forgotten about our old members who have reached the age of 60 and have been Verhovay members for at least 10 years, and are in a position where they are no longer financially independent, or have no one who can or will support them, for our organization will take care of them until their dying day, and they will be assured of a quiet, peaceful life, with all necessities furnished. The above statement is not just an advertisement, for I have had the opportunity of visiting three of our old Verhovay members in an Old Folks home, placed there by our organization. These members expressed their thanks and gratitude, asked God’s blessings on the Verhovay for having their welfare in mind and rendering them assistance in their time of need. What more can an insurance organization offer? The Verhovay has various types of certificates to offer the public, and the monthly dues are not high. As a matter of fact, in most cases the premiums are less than in old line insurance companies. Besides life insurance, we offer sick benefit, childbirth benefit and maiming benefit. Aren’t the foregoing statements worth thinking about? Therefore, let us, the second generation of Hungarian Americans, help preserve and build this great organization that our forefathers have worked for during the past fifty-five years. Certainly their achievement is far in excess of the expectations of the originators of this institution. Remember, your cooperation is essential, and you don’t want to be the missing rung in the ladder which would carry us to the attainment of our goal. If you have not entered the contest to date, do so NOW. Send your name to me at 11934 Lowe Avenue, Chicago, Illinois, and here’s hoping you will be a winner. Fraternali, MRS. LOUIS SABO District Secretary.--------o-o--------The United States exported farm equipment in January valued at $4,961,892, an increase of 46 per cent from January, 1940. VERHOVAY LADIES’ AUXILIARY BRANCH 96 Chicago, Illinois The Verhovay Junior Softball Team was feted at the Auxiliary meeting held Friday evening, August 1st. The boys, who play in the West Pullman Park League, finished in first place with 16 wins and one loss. Besides the ball team and the members of the Auxiliary the following people were present: Forest Lull, Director of West Pullman Park; George Toth, Verhovay District Organizer; Branch officers of 96, John Szalancy (Director), President; Frank Tinich, Treasurer; Bernat Piszar, Recording Secretary; Louis Sabo, Branch Organizer; Steve Uhlean, Juvenile Custodian; the softball team’s coach; Mr. Charles Bako and Joseph Kish, Trustees; Stephen Soltes, one of 96’s charter members. Mr. Lull spoke very highly of the boys and commented upon their good behavior and grand sportsmanship, and said it was solely due to their own hard work and willingness that they finished on top.
