Y. large water ball in front of me.” “I think you’ve practised enough for this evening,” her mother said, after she had finished eight petite rond de jambes en dehors and eight petite rond de jambes en dedans. The weeks passed slowly. Polly advanced rapidly with her ballet lessons. It was not all as easy as the first few lessons had been, but she loved it so much that soon she was given a dance. It was a polka. Then one day Miss Annette announced a dance recital. It would be in six weeks. How the pupils worked t be allowed to appear In it! Only four weeks now! Polly could hardly . wait. Mother and Aunt Beatrice sewed her costume. It was of the sheerest baby blue organdie with rows and rows of tiny frills. Three weeks before the recital Polly went to bed with measles. Oh, it was a bitter disappointment! She fretted until mother was forced to scold. “ m will only make yourself more ill by fretting. After all, you have only the three day measles. I’m sure you will be well in time for the recital.” “Oh. Mother, I do want to be well enough to dance. You and Aunt Beatrice worked so hard on my costume. And I’ve practised so much. I—I”—her voice broke in a sob. “This isn’t like my Polly at all,” mother said, arranging the covers on the bed. So Polly settled herself more comfortably and went to sleep. Soon the funny looking measles began to disappear. After a while she was able to be up and back at her studies. How she worked to make up for lost time! It was only a week now before the recital. All the costumes were in readiness. The pupils had learned their dances. The programs had been printed and the children were overjoyed to see their names on the entertainment list. The stage was set for the event. Recital night! The auditorium filled to capacity. Polly peeked from the wings to see daddy, mother and Aunt Beatrice taking seats in the front row. The stage was arranged to represent fairyland. There was a lovely garden. In the background stood a castle. There was a large silver tree in the courtyard and under it grew a profusion of flowers. The music began; the flowers raised their heads and danced. Many “Oh’s” and “Ah’s!” were heard when parents recognized their children as the dancing flowers. Polly was the beautiful princess. She made her entrance gracefully. She danced to the center of the stage. The rhythm of the music cast a spell upon her. The audience, also, was en chanted with the music and the dance. “One — two — three — four. Step — curtsy — step — curtsy,” Polly seemed to hear Miss Annette’s voice. A moment more; another curtsy and the dance was over. The audience applauded. Polly gave an encore. The recital had ended. Proud mothers and fathers congratulated Miss Annette. Many attentions were showered upon the children. Polly, the beautiful princess, who danced the polka so gracefully, received her congratulations graciously.--------------O-------------NIGHT God’s hand is full of diamonds, And as the night still lingers, He turns the blue dome upside down; The jewels fall through his fingers. Our Post Office Department has announced that the American Forces in Newfoundland will be quartered on the U. S. Transport Alexandria instead of the U. S. Transport America, as first announced, until land barracks are found or built for the boys. A congressman has introduced a bill in the House of Representatives, asking a new issue of air mail stamps for release on Pan-American Aviation Day. 1 There is “smoke” in Washington asking that the new Defense Stamps also be issued in lc, 2c and 3c coils. This would mean more precancels, local, buro, electro and double lines, etc. The new Defense Stamps look beautiful precanceled, and some of our local dealers, with wild looks in their eyes, talk of starting collections. We down here (Richmond, Virginia) always have felt that a dealer has as right to collect, and should do so only after his customers are satisfied.--------------O--------------BRANCH 372 Lorain, Ohio At its recent elections, Branch 372 elected the following officers for 1941: President, John Palagyi.
